I think you made a bit of a mistake in the placement of the house. When squirrels make their own places to sleep, they pick a location high in trees and as far away from threats as they can get. A squirrel broke into my attic and after I evicted him, I made him a nice house and placed it on the side of the house. No way would he use it. I then place it at a fork of a maple tree. Rejected! Next I placed it as high in a tree as my ladder would reach, about 22 feet over the ground, covered it partly with branches - and then he moved in.
Wow! That's incredible! That's beyond my level of expertise. Great job!

maybe thry smell the glue. i think using nails or screws would have been a better idea. more natural smell.
as a feeder it's great. I don't think squirrels will like the transparency in a house though. just my guess.
Love the fast motion! Wish every do it yourself project was made this way. Your skills and workshop make it look easy but I know it's not!

Ian Moss I'm still waiting myself. The old feeder is literally 4 feet away from the new one, and they check that one out daily.
Do you need to hang or at least elevate the squirrel house to entice them to move in? I just made a pretty damn big one and I placed it right on my porch. My porch is two stories up but I still think they might like it elevated.

I fill it up every couple months and he empties it completely. It looks the same its just always empty.

yes if you give them their own feeders they leave the birds alone, they're only doing it because they're hungry too, not there to annoy you. i have two squirrel feeders, then the doves and squirrels each get one, i have three feeders and every creature happily is eating, no need for territory actions...same with hummingbirds, more than one provides enough to avoid fighting

mike gager I had the time-lapse rolling for hours and saw nothing. They used to eat from the old squirrel house so I'm sure they'll be by soon enough.
Amazing video and great Squirrel house but that is not a good place to put it at all. My father did the same thing with a bird house. They need to live high up in the trees. At that location, they are a prime target for too many dangers from various animals, humans, and especially other squirrels. Too easy to come right up along the fence without a good enough view of enemies. Any predators just have to wait. That is not to say that no one will move in, God knows that knuckleheads come in all forms hah. Get a nice ladder and hang it on a tree without killing the tree kf course. :)
Nice build, even if I loathe rats with furry tails, aka squirrels. I'm just not thrilled with rodents in my yard. Ya I know, they're part of the ecosystem, but they're just snake bait and I do not want those in my yard either.

Around here, I would add electrical and a switch in the house. Just to give them a wee bit of a shock......they tend to be quite the pests!
TJ weim They keep to themselves around here. The woodpeckers are more annoying because they tap on the steel chimneys to attract a mate.
