    We have squirrels living inside our BBQ right now. Thanks for the video. will have to make a similar house for our baby squirrels so momma squirrel can hopefully transfer them...

    This is so sweet! I love it when humans do things for animals from the goodness of their hearts. Thank you, it's beautiful

    I am delighted there are people that care about the squirrels as I do. It`s not a good idea though to put any type of toxic substance on to protect it. The squirrels might chew the wood, and the varathane is toxic to them!

      The oil has only natural contents and can also be used for children's toys, for example. Therefore, you can use it without hesitation.

    A clean and tidy job with an interesting design. 👍Add a patio around the outside with the roof extending over the patio extension area and you have additional outside play area for the babies.😀
    Also, the roof screwed on from the top of the sides would help prevent water from getting in from dripping down where it joins the back piece (as on your design.) To protect the racoons from getting at the babies from the easy access holes you built, some squirrel designs have a ledge on the inside before the space drops down deep in the house. Your design does not allow this sort of consideration though. Lots to learn about how to protect the baby squirrels from predators. Thank you for preparing the video. 😉That in itself takes commitment and patience 👍 🇨🇦

      Thank you very much for your feedback. I am very happy that you like my video. Thanks also for the tips regarding predators. This house is already hanging in the tree. For the next house I will try to design the inside structure differently. Have a good day- BR

    Nice to see the finished product, but I am wondering how you mount something that heavy to a tree? I wish you had included that part. I would want it to be solid on a tree, so that eventually it doesn`t fall to the ground with the squirrels in it! What is the best method of attaching it to the tree?

    There should be only one whole and towards the top with a predator guard directly under the hole on the inside

      I do not have exact dimensions. I have created it out of my mind. You can start with a bottom plate of 40cm x30cm. The rest is adapted according to the bottom plate dimensions. Just start - you will see how easy it is.

    Excellent and thanks for sharing . Are they like cats and need another escape hole where they sleep ? My squirrels face harsh winter weather and I think the extra hole would make the shelter colder . Thank you again and nice work .

      I thought same thing only opposite in Fla., no circulation. I ended up cutting hole in bottom corner, same dimension as entry. Now, there's all the little nesting branches they gathered around laid over the top of it! Looks like they could get thru it if they had to. This design looks complicated, mine is scrap wood with a metal roof-over. I mean, they can live in an attic😅

    • @WokelandDefector
      @WokelandDefector Рік тому +1

      All the plans that I see have only one hole for the squirrels and then air holes across the top of the sides (just use a fatter drill bit). Also, you want to be sure there are a few small holes in the bottom for drainage as well as a predator guard inside and/or a deeper cavity under the access hole so that a predator can’t reach in and grab babies.
      What was built here looks more like a feeding station but I suppose it’s no less “safe” than something a squirrel would build. 🤷🏼‍♀️

      All the plans that I see say 3” for Eastern Gray Squirrels.
      Also, as others have mentioned, there should be a predator guard inside and/or the bottom should be deep enough under the holes so that a racoon, cat, etc. can’t reach in grab babies out of it.

  • @NeolotusB5G
    @NeolotusB5G 7 місяців тому

    First, need only one hole with a predator guard. Second, please do NOT put any finishing product on the wood as squirrel babies will chew the wood and don't need that toxic stuff. Also, need a smaller house for better warmth.
