I can tell that this is a wonderful drum set. I own the AQX Jungle in same color and bought it as a practice kit at home. I usually play a Gretsch Renown. After changing the heads on the Sonor AQX to Evans G1 and upgraded the snare wires I liked it so much that I started gigging with it in a cover band and it worked very well. A dream to carry around.

After hearing dozens of kits and watching hundreds of drum set videos I shouldn’t be surprised this Sonor set sounds so good. It is difficult to fight the almost unconscious association poplar=cheap=bad sound. There are definite differences between expensive and inexpensive kits regarding the construction and hardware quality, but for someone just entering the world of drumming please be aware that good tuning -more precisely head tension- and drummer’s skills are immensely more important factors in getting a “good sound” than shell, hardware, or head materials. In other words, for durability, looks, and reliability you can spend more money on a kit. For sound, you have to spend more time learning and playing it.

This kit is and sounds much better than my Ludwig breakbeats kit, even with the Sonor stock heads..
Just ordered a kit from Sweetwater. $100 price drop on new right now.
We'll see how it compares to the Pearl Midtown kit I got my dad a couple years ago.

@@yesdrums6627 Like most kits... new heads made all the difference.
Stock heads were not great on either, but I'd say I was slightly more impressed with the Sonor's hardware.
I threw clear Emperors and a clear Emad on them. I wanted a cranked, but fat sound. I'm happy with them.

How does this Sonor Jungle kit compare to the PDP New Yorker kit?
Also do you know anything about how those 2 kits would compare to a Pearl Midtown kit? I’m on the fence about which of these 3 compact kits to order. Thanks 😊
Hi @yesdrums6627, In our opinion both the Sonor Jungle and PDP New Yorker (which we looked at previously) punch way above their weight and sound great...really we'd say it comes down to which brand you wanted to play! We also looked at the Pearl Midtown, with the video being launched very soon...
