  • I received a call today from Chris, an outreach worker at Denver's homeless youth services Urban Peak [www.urbanpeak.org]. He said he had to pick up some kids left stranded by a "sales crew". I never heard of such a thing so it didn't "register" or make sense.
When I arrived at their downtown facility I met Jermy and Alicia. They were left stranded by an organization that exploits homeless youth for labor. These organizations promise great income and travel. To a kid in poverty being able to travel and make money is often too sexy to resist. Of course, this is just a labor trafficking scheme. The kids make very little money, are often abused, and when they want out they are left stranded back homeless, often worse than when they started.
Jeremy and Alicia up until this morning were sleeping in a bus station. Alicia is 21 and pregnant. This could have been a horrible situation, but luckily they found Urban Peak. They received a hotel voucher for tonight and will get travel assistance tomorrow so they can take a bus back home.

    About Invisible People:
Since its launch in November 2008, Invisible People has leveraged the power of video and the massive reach of social media to share the compelling, gritty, and unfiltered stories of homeless people from Los Angeles to Washington, D.C. The vlog (video blog) gets up close and personal with veterans, mothers, children, layoff victims and others who have been forced onto the streets by a variety of circumstances. Each week, they’re on InvisiblePeople.tv, and high traffic sites such as UA-cam, Twitter and Facebook, proving to a global audience that while they may often be ignored, they are far from invisible.
Invisible People goes beyond the rhetoric, statistics, political debates, and limitations of social services to examine poverty in America via a medium that audiences of all ages can understand, and can’t ignore. The vlog puts into context one of our nation’s most troubling and prevalent issues through personal stories captured by the lens of Mark Horvath - its founder - and brings into focus the pain, hardship and hopelessness that millions face each day. One story at a time, videos posted on InvisiblePeople.tv shatter the stereotypes of America’s homeless, force shifts in perception and deliver a call to action that is being answered by national brands, nonprofit organizations and everyday citizens now committed to opening their eyes and their hearts to those too often forgotten.
Invisible People is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to changing the way we think about people experiencing homelessness.

This is so sad. I am taking a human trafficking class and it is a form of trafficking. The youth were coerced into believing things would be good when it really wasn't. I mean most of us would get mad if money was being taken out of our checks without us seeing it first. Then having only 30 $ to live off of until u meet qouta again?
And as for the girl. .. she is pregnant. I wouldn't want to leave the child of my father not knowing if I will ever see him again if we separate.

Jeremy and Alicia are so eloquent and positive. Wish them the best. I'm very saddened that they were taken advantage of. Glad they got out of it though. Wishing them and their baby happiness.

They should have walked out on such blatant exploitation after the first week as it's not healthy for the self-esteem especially while homeless. America is chock-a-block with carpet-baggers, as during The Great Depression.Only these days , they come in guise of corporation scum-bags. This couple are still quite young so why they allow the exploitation to happen. If 10yrs older they would have been more assertive.

Funny...cause I worked door to door sales for a similar company and I used to pick are emplyess up from bus stations and I always seen magazine sales stranded. These two arent lien I worked for advanage the wonder cleaner and they would leave ya ass sometimes. But it is true if u stayed 30 days they would send you back unless you got fired then it was a toss up. I would never support nor speak positive about these sales groups. all they taught us was how to lie, have the crew were on crack or dr

Company policy specifically states all employment contracts are independently based and are not W2 which means there is no set salary. This opportunity is COMMISSION BASED. Urban is famous for helping those individuals who need second chances but some individuals are beyond hope as they choose to continuously destroy any opportunities afforded them for the betterment of their lives. Return transportation, per Urban's contractual obligations, is provided TO THE ORIGINAL HOME DESTINATION. NO INDI

Ok, this response is going to be long. I travelled with American Community Services for six years of my life and I currently work for Urban Development Solutions. EVERYTHING THAT THESE LIARS SAID IS JUST THAT..a lie. When an individual is hired, they are well informed of hiring and travel policies which are as follows: When an individual is hired, they have to stay employed for a minimum of 30 days before a return ticket is purchased(Urban always purchases return tickets to HOME ORIGIN without
