  • A well known tool brand that is still loved and missed by many was slowly but surely disappearing. Now they have been rejuvenated and set to release a ton of new power tools. The question is, will they have what it takes to be a Ryobi killer?

      Yes, more like a Bauer competitor.
      Craftsman is more comparable to Ryobi.
      And the price is just a bit too rich for what you are getting, a Craftsman CMCD710 is $99 with a 1.5 Ah battery and faster charger. You can get another battery for $40 and end up with a more capable tool and a much better lineup.
      Or just like I did: get a combo with drill /driver, an impact and 2 batteries for $150

      The craftsman and the porter cable are the exact same tools. Look across the whole lineups, from brad nailer to this set. They’re just different colors and they’re more comparable to hart, in Walmart. Which is is owned by tti, just like ryobi, so they maybe the same thing as well.

    Seems a bit pricey! You can get 2 (1.5Ah) batteries, the "brushed" version of that drill and the crappy charger for 69.99. My guess is head to head it wouldn't preform that much differently other than a "bit" more efficiency with battery life. Sure brushes wear out, but how many people in a non professional environment do you know wears the brushes out on their drills?

    • @jackt6112
      @jackt6112 2 роки тому

      I wore my brushes out as a DIYer on 2 at the same time just recently. The Craftsman sander just burned out too, and the cord on my Craftsman 3/8 drill is fraying too. The blade lock went bad on my Craftsman circular saw too so I had to replace that too. Stuff seem to happen all at once while doing a garage. They only lasted 51 years. Cheap junk. Now I replaced it with cordless everything. I was going to bring them back to Sears and ask if they still took S&H green stamps but they weren't there. I haven't owned a sawzall yet but am looking and I've used one once before.

  • @magnificenthonky
    @magnificenthonky Рік тому

    I've been using Porter Cable cordless tools since spring of '21, so a few months before this video was released.
    I've got a couple of drills, the big impact driver (great for lug nuts), a couple of smaller impact drivers, a sawzall, a sander, and an angle grinder.
    Most of these things came with at least one battery, as well as chargers, so I've got no problem with keeping fresh batteries on hand. Oh, and one of those chargers is a Rapid Charge.
    I will say this; I bought a multi tooled set that included a circular saw and a sawzall. The circular saw died after I'd had it about a year, but it was only the 2nd or 3rd time I'd used it. The sawzall died shortly thereafter, but it had seen much more use. I purchased a new sawzall, but it was just that saw. The individual sawzall seems to be a much higher quality than the one that came in the kit. Time will tell if that assessment is accurate. I've not replaced the circular saw, yet, but I get the impression that the individual saw will be better than the set version here, as well.
    On the angle grinder, I note that this thing sucks juice like a frat boy at a keg. So, you'll want plenty of fresh batteries before you start a project with that.
    I use the smaller impacts the most; practically every day. One of them is brushless, the other is not. I think that I may like the brushful better than the brushless- it seems to have a tad more oomph for breaking stubborn bolts.
    In my own experience, these Porter Cable tools seem quite sufficient for the Homeowner DIY demographic. Mine get used at a PWC/Boat/ATV/UTV dealership, in the course of assembly, service, and repair, on a regular basis. I also use them for a variety of projects at home, and I tend to do more than the average DIY homeowner. For the most part, they have served me well.
    I bought into the Porter Cable line for a couple of reasons. One, they are affordable, so I was able to build a collection of cordless power tools very quickly, without breaking the bank. 2nd, I live in the middle of nowhere. Lowes and Home Despot are an hour drive from me, as is Harbor Freight. Tractor Supply, on the other hand, is right in town, right by everywhere I go. I pass them, every time I have to go somewhere. So, that's convenient. If I buy a tool that's DOA, I'm not losing another couple of hours, and burning a lot of gas, to go replace it. When my 1st sawzall died, I made a quick stop on the way to work to replace it, and already had charged batteries to power it. The inconvenience was minor.
    In summary, these tools are sufficient tools, and they perform well for their price point. Again, my use is more than average homeowner and light/mid duty professional. On a professional level, I'd say that these are decent starter tools, a great way to get you working and making money, but you will definitely want to prepare to upgrade to a more heavy duty line by saving a bit from each job or check to drop in a tool fund. For the homeowner, I'd say that Porter Cable is a reasonable option for home repair, vehicle maintenance and repair, and most projects that you may tackle for personal enjoyment in your garage.
    These tools aren't junk, but at the price, don't expect them to be Snap-On or Milwaukee. Understand your needs and your budget, research your reasonable options, and make your purchases accordingly.

    • @1EVILZ06
      @1EVILZ06 Рік тому +1

      I agree with your statement on buying the tools individually over the kit combo. The individual tools are of better quality. I bought all the tools separately rather than in the kit. And they have performed very well. I suggest up grading the batteries straight outta the gate. 4-5 ah batteries are a must.

    Porter Cable has their work cut out for them if they want to take on Ryobi. Most farmers I know have at least one Ryobi tool and its 85% of the time the one blue and yellow drill those things seem to never die, but the batteries are the new lithium ones. TSC is going to have to have some major sales to get them in peoples hands cause right now I can get a Ryobi impact driver with a 1.5ah battery and charger for $39. I think really this Porter Cable is Stanley black and deckers way of fighting back against Hart not Ryobi.

    This tools been out for a while. I have a few of them that are 5 + years of use. Good quality and definitely a DYI tool. I did purchased them at Lowes and i have a big charger that fully charges in 15 minutes.

    The Porter Cable Charger is Not Real Nass Like at all you can use craftsman batteries on these porter cable tools @ToolReviewZone

    My little rule of thumb for power when buying a drill if it can’t go threw a 2x4 with a 1inch spade bit with one effortless go I don’t want it. Just takes to much time to re press the trigger and then possibly wait for the overheating to go away. Porter Cable is really trying tho!

    i bought these two years ago and you couldn't find brushless vrsions anywhere. Mine have besically worn out and I am just a diyer, I was excited about PC coming back. They batteries are also stupid expensive and if you don't have the 4 hour on these you're going to charging up ever half hour our so.

    I got on to Craftsman when they came out with the 20v stick vac. Also, Ryobi (and others) were slow to get a decent 7.25” miter out.
    I try to shop ACE instead of Lowe’s so that removes the other aggravating aspect.

    Yeah that tiny little sloooow charger and no battery indicator on the battery itself. Not cool! Even Worx batteries have indicators. As far as the build, it looks cheap, which is sad since it's carrying such a legendary name.

    Clints got that jheri curl look I do like the logo change so looks like Porter-Cable it's going to attempt to be a house brand for tractor supply that's ness like at least it's a battery indicator on a tool the older ones didn't even have it unless you bought the higher amp battery and then it came on the battery kind of like hart

    Seems a little modified from the set I bought four years ago, wasn't finding a set I liked and was affordable. Six months later everyone came out with brushless. For light use fine, but housing is cheap and when it torks out housing seams open.

  • @stewarttrains98

    Should have turned the chuck to the max it goes before using the spade bit. May have gotten a bit better performance. However if I'm able to do partial side then switch to other side I do as when it goes to the bust through, I have noticed bog down. But for the purposes of testing, I completely got it. If they can make them quality and bring the name back to what it was known for, definitely would be a good line depending on your needs. That battery and charger looks to be a direct clone of the black and decker of similar products.

    I've been using Porter-Cable for about 2 years now doing general construction and these tools can hang. Their drills are their weak point though, I say if you're trying to drill a hole bigger than half an inch the drill is going to struggle, even with their so-called hammer drill, however I would not render them completely useless. This has been my experience with them, so I find it funny that they would send you the weakest product in their line.
