It was a great pleasure to see Franco on stage. His beautiful, slender, tall figure, his costumes, his movement. I hope you will find more films ! Thank you Olga and Eszter for your work !!!
I agree. No words can reflect the quality and superb artistry of Franco Corelli. I was privileged to hear him in Turandot in 1961 in Naples. His was a God given voice and nature. May he be with all the other magnificos in Paradise.
A stasera
Sadly, maestro Franco Corelli died 2 days after I was born making it impossible for me to see his live performances. So, every single of his videos like this are treasure for me. Thank you! Edit: Looking forward for the future videos. I'll try my best to support.
How wonderful to see Franco Corelli on stage, live. Thank you for all the work and hunting that must have gone into this video. You are amazing! Thank you!😊
This is truly an amazing find. I think two things that these clips really shows, is that Franco was quite a good actor and this also shows his amazingly tall stage figure and presence. How or why were all of these short clips recorded?
Stanley Levine, who made the videos, was a stage manager at the Metropolitan Opera for many decades, and he probably recorded the performances as a hobby. I think he is the same Stanley Levine who, as this article reveals, was also in charge of getting Franco from his dressing room to the stage without fleeing the building during the 1970 Cavalleria :) corelli.notion.site/A-champion-tenor-defends-his-title-1970-b0054706b923437f8988cdd436ff5dbc (Interestingly, as the text running in the video reveals, Levine edited this collection of videos (which originally included a lot of other clips, not just Corelli ones) for John Darrenkamp in 1987, who, as well as being Franco's partner on multiple occasions (e.g. as Marcello in 1969 in Philadelphia), is also a huge fan of his and even a member of our group on Facebook.)
@@FrancoCorelliInfoCenter Thanks, that is very interesting. I guess it was somewhat amateur and he did not really record long sections. He likely had limited space. How astonishing that this footage survived all of these years. Great job on matching the audio and the scenes.
I want to thank you for creating this UA-cam channel and for all your hard work of looking for all those materials and videos. It is such a treasure for us, young opera singers!
Unfortunately, I don't know anything about this. I've never heard of that advertisement. However, where these clips came from, there was also an excerpt from Turandot with Nilsson - just not with Franco, but with James King. In the next few days that will also appear on UA-cam (along with numerous other clips featuring various opera stars from the same era) on a friend's "new" channel.
I am sure I heard the CAVALLERIA at the MET was filmed and they just never showed it. If Gelb could find it he'd make some money. I think I heard it was owned by Pepsi Cola or Coke who were the sponsors
