When Sanjay reviewed the science and found there were only small studies--though impressive studies--it begged the question why larger studies haven't been done. Draw your own conclusions. I'm grateful for Dr. Esselstyn.

Bad vegetarian (Dairy) for many years led me to getting a stint in my heart last October. My total cholesterol was 189. Switched to a vegan diet and my cholesterol dropped to 96 within 4 months and now I'm close to a year and I never felt better. I should have become a vegan many years ago but better late then never. Go vegan

I wish I converted to vegan as a kid. I only became vegan at 18 due to life threatening health conditions. I suffered my first heart attack at 16. but remember, if anyone reading this is vegan, stay away from oil 👍

It's an embarassment that they included that nonsense about LDL particle size. True, while larger LDL molecules are less likely to end-up in the artery walls relative to smaller LDL, it is still very possible. Most importantly, when they do, they delivery significantly greater quantities of cholesterol. Please educate yourself, Dr. Gupta.

The only foods that contain no cholesterol are all plant based. Your body makes the necessary amounts it needs from within.

I worry about people making emphatic claims, however, I do believe diet and exercise makes a huge difference. I have a sister that’s been a vegan for decades and I’m healthier than she is. I do watch what I eat and exercise but I’m not a vegetarian or vegan. I believe in moderation in the food you you eat, like eating red meat once a week, and eating lots of fruits and vegetables and whole grains. I eat 0% fat Greek yogurt almost every day with granola and fruit and there are health benefits to eating yogurt you wouldn’t get if you’re a vegan.
I would love to see a study of identical twin with one a vegan and the other eating a healthy diet that’s not vegetarian and both healthy lifestyles otherwise. Having said that, you never know for sure studying identical twins. I had identical brother-in-laws and the one that exercise regularly since his military days died of a stroke at 42 years old and was very fit and trim. The surviving brother is trim and lives a healthy lifestyle and is now in his early fifties.

what about olive oil? Looks like in Blue zones they use lots of good fats: olive oils and avocados, very little animal food, i.e. mostly plant-based foods. What do you think about eating/cooking with olive oil ?

3:19 Why does Dr. Sanjay say you get cholesterol in French Fries? That's no a meat product so there can't be any unless I suppose they're cooked in animal fat.

This video would have you believe you need to give up X, Y, or Z for good. That's not true. It's all about moderation. One can still have X, Y, or Z in their diet and be just fine and have the same expectations as one that doesn't.
This type of video makes me wonder what stakes those involved in the video have in everything they're suggesting. It seems at the least, slightly biased (for lack of a better term at this point) for some reason.

Chandrika Mohan Dr Esseylsten says they have to ne boiled approx. 5 to 5.5 minutes then chewed slowly.Chewing slowly in the mouth converts the nitrated so that nitrous oxide gets released into the blood, where it helps repair tje lining of the arteries and remove plaque.

monk in India and China are vegetarian, yet they get artery blockade as well as heart attack. it is inflammation of blood artery that causes build up of plague. reduce the inflammation then there will be less chance of heart desease and heart attack. lack of exercise, too much sugar and carbohydrate, eating junk food because of a low fat diet could increase chance of heart decease. Lowering blood pressure, if no choice using medicine, could also reduce inflammation. Inflammation help build up artery blockade.

As you said they are VEGETARIAN.

    • @tharun960

Vegetarian and vegan doesn't necessarily mean healthy. Vegetarians often eat lots of dairy and eggs for example and junk food and sweets in India.. The longest living populations in the world (Blue Zones) are 95%+ plant based though for example.. A vegan/vegetarian diet if done right can be even better than this diet if done right.. How do we know? Because the Californian Adventists are a Blue Zones and the healthiest of these are the Vegetarians who have the longest life expectancy of any formally studied population! The science is clear. The public is confused as usual. nutritionfacts.org/video/the-okinawa-diet-living-to-100/

lenomali - Vegetarians in India eat a lot of ghee, and they drink milk. These are animal products, and the ghee is pure animal fat. You will have heart disease eating these things. Vegan means no animal products at all, and the purest vegan diet has no junk food and no extracted oils. The monks do not eat that way.

This was on track until they conveniently leave out that type B LDL cholesterol does not come from animal fats, butter, cream, milk, etc... it comes from sugar and carbs... so cutting out fat, meat, butter, cream, good oils, etc has absolutely no result on type B LDL. What would make a difference is if you cut out processed carbs and sugar. This is shown in Ketogenic diets (very high fat, very low carb diets) that work so exceedingly well. High carb whole grain vegan diets are interesting too but personally I have only felt terrible eating high carb and vegan.
