Is The LPVO and Top Dot Package the best Combo?

- Today Chris goes over why we love the LPVO and 12'Oclock red dot setup. There are various pros and cons of every setup but this particular combinations makes this rifle very versatile.
I was going to do the LPVO 2 years ago when I finally had the money to get my dream setup. After careful consideration, I went with an MPVO nightforce nx8 2.5-20x50 F1 with a top mounted Steiner MPS in a Badger condition one 1.54” mount.
This combo is absolutely amazing! I love having the 20x magnification option as it truly makes a difference at 700+ yards. The red dot on top is basically my primary optic and with the 1.54 mount it is not excessive in my chin weld. The dot assists so much in finding my target when my scope is at higher magnification.
Call me a psycho, but I also run 45 degree irons for backups. It’s so nice having a 36 meter zero on my dot, 100 meter on my scope and irons. With a bipod deployed I’m still able to use my dot. The 45 degree offset makes that impossible.
Great job! This was a very informative video, that was not geared towards products, but industry standards and the pros and cons that come along with them. You were very well spoken, and editing was great too! I would watch this type of content all day. Again well done 👍
I believe having the Red Dot at the 45 is better because you maintain cheek well. Which should make it faster than the 12:00 and more consistent for placement of shots. Awesome video 💪
I run the Badger Ordinance 1.7 with a dot up top. Definitely a fan.
Ditto! Love this setup with a Nightforce ATACR 1-8x paired with a Trijicon RMR!
@Snapper314 Nice. I have a Vudu 1-6 with an eflx up top.
yes the 1.7 is perfect for all applications
Great info, especially the height difference’s when mounting a red dot on top vs 45 deg. Getting my first LPVO plus red dot. Thanks and good video! Mike
Just started running this combo on one of my favorites rifles a month or two ago and it's so far my preferred setup now.
Loving the content thus far guys. Keep it up. Super informative with a good mix of entertainment.

I ❤🐖 back. No more 45° degree turning, flipping a magnifier, having to lever from 1x-max. No more taking your hands off the AR in general. It's fast asf
Piggyback is great for NODs and gas masks. I hate LVPOs anymore. I would much rather have fixed magnification or a magnifier setup. I put my LVPOs on QD mounts just in case I want to shoot long range.
Right on
Definitely going to add a top mount like this to my LPVO at some point.
I have my 14.5 Knights pretty much set up the same way. I went with an Eotech Vudu 1-10 LPVO mounted on a Badger Ordnance C1 1.70 mount. My 12 o'clock red dot is an Aimpoint ACRO. I went with a Geissele SSA-EX Lightning Bow trigger. It's a pretty sweet setup.
Never thought about an EMP for a non etched LPVO like the Primary arms gen 4 bright red fiber wire… my friend just bought one… I know it might be far fetched to be in the area where an EMP does happen but we had talked about SHTF build and we chose the the primary arms gen 4 nova bright red and never thought about the EMP taking out the scope. love the build by the way.
Thanks I just used a EMP as the most extreme example. The most realistic thing you would run into is running out of batteries.
I've shied away from top mount dots because then I'm dealing with two different heights over bore that I have to account for, but you presented some good reasons why that may be worth dealing with-thanks!
Thanks! That is a very valid concern, however I found running a 36yrd zero for the top dot provided a relatively flat trajectory up close and further away.
@@onehundredconcepts I'm not saying you're wrong, but my experience has been that a shorter zero (25-36y) for a piggyback optic means that you still have significant hold overs within 10 yards of your zero but you also get significant hold unders past your zero. It means I have to do a lot more thinking about range and where the bullet is going to impact.
I've been using a 100 yard zero for the piggybacked dot and it means you have bullets getting closer to the dot as you get further out. This means you don't have to worry about things like "my 36 yard zero is 5 moa high at 100 yards so I actually need to be aiming at the barrier". That said if you only ever use the dot for 50 yards and in and you're not doing passive night vision with it the 36 yard zero is probably just better.
I really like the breakdown, your points made sense. I may consider this setup if I ever can afford NV lol. Currently I'm running a T2 forward of my PLXC 1-8 on the rail canted at 35 degrees (less aggressive angle works better for me) and both optics are at 1.93 height. I find it just works better for my body and I have noticed its not as comfortable to shoot prone but then again I also hardly shoot prone haha. The rolling of the gun doesn't bother me after I trained some more and I do find it easier to shoot underneath obstacles like a car or just above obstacles easier when having the rifle rolled to my red dot. Fantastic analysis done on the WHY you set this up. Keep the knowledge coming!
Super solid explanation! I personally run mine at the 45 but I don’t have NV so it works for me.
I probably would as well! The cheek weld is so much better.
I really like the 1.70 mounts because as you note, they aren't bad prone, and standing, they clear my MFALs better than 1.54s do. 1.93 would be better, but as you note, top dot and cheek weld as well as prone lpvo use suffers.
Excellent work sir!
I would love to have a video on the pros and cons of no FSB vs. having a FSB.
The answer is absolutely yes. I never liked changing or losing cheek weld with canted sites. The real reason to do it is if you use NODS, makes the rifle so much more versatile. Now that I may have written something completely stupid, I am going to start the video
dead on
Great review
The advantage of an LPVO is supposed to be the 1x, so if you also have a red dot why not get that extra magnification and FOV with an MPVO.
I love 1.70” height for my LVPO. I want to top mount a dot but don’t have the funds at the time
What are the names/ brand of the parts you are using ?
What determines how close you mount your red dot, meaning the closest mount ring or furthest ring ? I have my 12 oclock dot on the furthest because that’s the set up I most commonly see. I hear people mention nods, but nods still fit if dot is on first ring too.
For me it was just because the housing on the PLxc is so short I couldn’t fit my scope cap pro on it
Which mount is this that allows the dot to be ran on the rear ring?
Reptilia
What other options are there for bad eyes?
I tried a TA110 acog with a 1.7 mount with a piggy back RMR HD. I don't run nods.
The issue I ran into was that it was so high off the gun I get no cheekweld at all. Maybe you can shoot a soft recoiling, nicely tuned AR15 with a mid or rifle gas and a can or muzzle brake, but I'm running this setup on an LMT 13.5 308 MARS H, carbine gas, and a surefire 3 prong FH. My surefire can is in atf jail still. Trying to shoot that with no cheekweld and have any sort of recoil control for follow up shots is really challenging so I switched to an offset mount.
I assume with an lpvo it would work a little better since most LPVOs are lower than acogs.
I guess Im confused on why you'd do this with an lpvo tho. You buy an lpvo cuz you want 1x. If your 1x is covered by a red dot, why not buy something that more capability than an LPVO like a 2-10, 2-12, etc? The weight difference isnt that much, a light LPVO weighs ~17oz. The heavy ones weigh ~23-25oz.
A Trijicon credo 2-10 weighs 23, has better capability than any lpvo (including any 1-10s) except at 1x...which is covered by your red dot. The NF NX8 2.5-20 weighs 28.
Mpvo or acog plus a red dot is awesome. Lpvo plus dot, kinda stupid.
Body type definitely comes into play when talking about optic mount height. I wouldn’t recommend people go higher than 1.7. Most people would find 1.53 to be the most comfortable for a top dot.
@@onehundredconcepts I think it depends on the type of optic too. A top mounted dot to an lpvo is going to sit lower than a dot top mounted to an Acog even if both the COG and lpvo are on the same 1.7 height mounts, I think.
@@onehundredconceptswould a taller person benefit from a 1.7? I’m 6’5 with a long neck and think I would benefit
I have the plxc 1-8 as well on the 1.70 mount in odg with my 509t top dot and I absolutley love it and that's on my 13.7 p&w build and it's an absolute monster of a rifle it's capable of so much I love my for and your rifle reminds me of it... Is there any way I can send a pic to you to show you?.. Your rifle reminds me on mine favorite rifle..
I’ve got the plxc 1-8 as well, but the 1x wasn’t nearly as fast for me as my red dots. I think slapping a 509t on top will make me like it much more. For now I’m loving G45 behind ACSS hs503g on my 14.5 go to rifle

Anday I asked what bipod are you running?
It is the Atlas Bipod
build a couple set ups. can’t go wrong with lpvo and red dot or holographic site. in different barrel lengths.
Very true however I have found the lpvo with top dot gives me one setup that works for 98% of things that I do I my day to day life. I also have an 11.5 which I love but I think lpvo’s fit very well for some that just wants 1 rifle to don’t things
@@onehundredconcepts nice, and for those out there not have any experience training, it’s a must and join your local competitions for 2 or 3 gun. it will help you be a better shooter. back to rifles, my shortest is 13.9 with lpvo with suppressor. you compete with your lpvo, you’ll be good, with lpvo. thank you for commenting back and love the channel. 😎🙏🏽🇺🇸
4:16 1.70 is the only way.
love their flash hiders on some things but on red dots they 3d printed screen thickness is too much.
I have a few other OEM flash hiders for dots that are WAY better. On magnifiers these are glorious.
I mean I love the onehundred concepts stuff for magnifiers. I didn't make that clear.
What bipod is that?
Atlas
I dont like LVPOs anymore. Fixed magnification or magnifier setup for me.
LPVO gives me the flexibility I need. Also really depends on what LPVO’s you have used.
I have come to cyber bully you for saying dumb shit. 1.93 is a 3tard height for scopes, the plx c is a great scope but it’s 1x no matter how flat and clear is not good because the illumination sucks.
I will give you credit, you created a silly niche product that people are buying up even if they do not need it at all.
When did I advocate for 1.93? 😂 illumination has been fine for me in very bright days. Is it as good as a ATACR no but it’s been fine. Maybe pay attention to the info in the video
@@onehundredconcepts you are no better than goober group. Making 🏳️🌈🧩🧩things that nobody needs
@@onehundredconcepts4:01 you say 1.93 is good, it’s a dawg 💩height for scopes and because you run a hype beast company 3tards are going to buy it because you’re not doing the right thing and telling them not to.
So just ignore the examples I gave of why you probably shouldn’t go 1.93 such as going prone 😂. I also made the caveat saying 1.93 is ok if you only plan on standing up so in other words I am advising people to put more thought into their optic mount height because it is not as simple as the higher the better.
@@onehundredconcepts higher the mount the gheyer the goober
VCOG chads crying because trijicon didn't think of making a top dot mount for it
😂🪦
VCOG chads use 45 degree offsets and say fuck it and use their laser on dual high and give the enemy laser eye surgery m. There is nothing passive about a VCOG owner
