I apologize for the grainier than usual video clips. I've been experimenting with Go-Pros to shoot some POV tutorials like this, but lemme know what you guys think of this editing style!
@@rickydomingo7 Russ is the man 🤘! Congrats on getting the short shifter I hope you enjoy it! Yeah, the boot collar is another great mod for flush boot fitment. If you're looking for a knob/collar combo I'd recommend the new poco knob if you like a spherical knob shape that's shorter in height than the other esco knobs acuity offers. The poco knob also has a built in collar 😎
Pawinning i set up my shifter to the shortest setup. And im okay with that but sometimes i having a hardt time downshifting on my 2nd gear. But overhaul. highly recommended on this product and our money is worth on this. Great uograde on our 10th gen
Years later, and this is still by far the best installation video to date. My FK8 is happy with the new shifter. I couldn’t have installed this without this descriptive video!! Thank you so much man!! 👍🔥
This video is a MUST watch prior to installation. Takes 99% of the guess work out of the install. Hats off to you young Mr Pawinn Very thorough and complete video.
Very well done!!! Amazing step-by-step detailed delivery for a 2 hours long upgrade on a 3 sqft space. My hats off...! Now looking forward to getting my own! Thank YOU!
This is my second install video I have seen you do and all I can say is The Best instructional videos ever... the attention to detail is Amazing... none better.
Because of how you explained and detailed the installation process, I'm now a fan and wanna put this shifter in my FK8!! Excellent work Boss!! Keep making future videos like this please 🙏 You my friend, have a new subscriber!!
As others have said, the best most detailed video for replacing the shifter. It would have taken me much longer if it wasn’t for the great tips on the cables and the wire clips. Still took me like 4 hours total. It was worth it though for the CTR shifter.
I'm never going to install one of these nor have a car that would take one - but that is a thing of beauty. I could feel the satisfying positive "donk" from here... England - because we like manual cars :)
just got a 2020 type r shifter assembly with stage 2(fk8) acuity kit for my si and this video relieved me of so much anxiety. I’m gonna get all the parts by the end of this next week
Thanks for the instructions I installed my stage 3 short shifter from acuity super easy and it is definitely a huge improvement, amazing feel , trow, great connection with the car when driving. acuity did an amazing job with this shifter money well spend!
Just installed my new short shifter in my 2020 fk7, thank you so much for making such a detailed tutorial man. Took me a little under 2 and a half hours and then went for a test drive. What a difference! Makes each shift feels confident and clicky vs. stock which felt for me at least, long and spongy. Makes it feel like a performance car. Highly recommend 👌
I just did this install. The best way to get the shifter cables out is to use a 90 degree pick tool. Don't bother with a screwdriver. I don't know how he did it. Slide the pick tool in behind the clip, move it towards the other end of the clip, and pry away from the dash. Rotate the cables counterclockwise and they come right out. It doesn't make a ton of sense until you are able to look at it out of the shifter body or see how it mounts on the Acuity shifter.
For those, who own a spec with the wireless charger and HDMI port: After taking out the aircon control and removing the 3 screws for the big middle trim, you need to remove the charger from the trim itself. The rubbery surrounding bezel around the charger module is clipped in. Simply pry up in the front and work your way back, it should then come out towards you. Underneath in the front, there are 2 silver screws- once removed you can lift it up slightly in the front, to get your pry tool underneath. It is also clipped in at the rear on the left and right side. If you pry upwards in the back on both sides, it should come out. Don't forget the wire plug underneath, which is why you have to follow these steps: the cable from the charger is preventing you from lifting the big middle trim up and away from the shifter. The wire for the HDMI port can be unplugged, if you carefully pry away the (ear) tabs on both sides, to clear the locking pins from the plug. It's easier, if you disconnect the 12V plug first, then rotate the faceplate to the left to get to the backsite more easily.
Best walkthrough video ever. I just don't have it in me to take everything apart like that and put it back together... but I really want that shift... sigh
Thanks for the love! And I can definitely understand how the undertaking of a project like this feels, my first go around taking these console apart took a good chunk of my day, but hey make it a fun project with some friends! That should make the process feel less intimidating imo with some extra support :).
This is so sooooo soooo much easier following your tutorial. Do you think If I put sound deadening where the paint is showing it will make a difference ? Or because it’s so little it won’t really matter?
8:08 See an issue in 2019 fk8. There's a huge grey tape covered wire preventing this portion of console from being released. Can't seem to find it in another video. This wire connects to a portable charging bed, under it there is a vonnector that I disconnected. 2. There are no clips to undo. The big wire above seems to bundle all of those 3. The key fab sensor in the back of the console is bolted behind a plastic with two screws and the wire itself is also held against panel with a locking nut you kind of have to unbury ●Also on my case parking brake, drive mode sensors etc have similar plastic nut in the plastic wall as well. Albeit thanks for video
Hey, great tutorial! I was just wondering, if one should apply some silicone grease inside the white bushing of the shifter lever end (which gets clipped into the middle shifter cable). From the factory, the OEM ball end (inside the blue bushing) is greased, so I wondered, if it was neccessary or advised not to.
Great video instructions were clear and easy to follow just one question what exhaust setup would you guys recommend for 2.0 liter fc2 I don’t really want a loud car just a little louder in comparison to the stock setup with no drone 🙏🏼
What are your favorite settings on the shifter? How does it feel on the shortest settings? I ordered the shifter, bushings, pedal spacer and Poco knob!
I don’t mind the way the stock shifter feels. I like the buttery smoothness. I want to upgrade to this but I don’t want it feeling harsh and clunky. I want even more of a soft buttery smooth experience. Would I be disappointed with this?
I don’t find the full shifter to feel harsh or clunky, but rather it really make shifts feel very solid, deliberate, and the shifting experience is quite smooth after it breaks in but it’s far from oem. But that being said it’s a much tighter feeling shifter in comparison to oem, so for your case I’d definitely consider the full stage 2 kit first, as those parts will provide an appreciable improvement to the oem shifter. Those parts will reduce the free play/slop in the factory shifter and make shifts feel more precise and consistent in shift feel. Hope this info helps!
No worries at all! Honestly I do think you’ll be happy with any of the stage kits. But with the full shifter you have a wide range of adjustability to tailor how the shifts feel 🙏
@@Pawinning you were right man! It feels fantastic! Much easier to avoid second gear grind now too. Anyone looking to do this and has the cash to throw at it… do it. It took like 30km city driving to get used to the engagement. That could be common or just my incompetence haha. Either way, 1k kms in and it feels fantastic. I paired it with the skunk2 weighted shift knob. Looks and feels fantastic with an alcantara boot 😫🤤
Hey Pawinning, thanks for the great content as usual, you are without doubt: the king of installation video, one question tho, I break the locking clip in the shifting bushing ( the one in at 15:00 of your video) and both of them gone….. how bad is this situation…. Any way to patch it up? Thx again
Hey man thanks so much for the love! And sorry to hear about the broken clips. I’d say as long as they can still slide into place, a zip tie or two around the mounting brackets should be enough to keep them secure. Unfortunately the only way to replace the clips is to get a whole new set of cables 😞.
with a purchase of this shifter, what accessories do you recommend to purchase alongside it? I was thinking of the shifter, plus a knob and the boot ring (I forget what it's called, keeps the boot and the knob connected). Do I need the bushings and springs as well, or are those included with the kit?
@@Pawinning the quality on both look fantastic But the Hybrid Racing doesn't appear to be as Mechanical feeling Honestly I was going to go with the Hybrid Racing until I seen the Mechanical crispness to the shifts of this component it's really what I am looking for.
Just want more clarification, are you having trouble engaging into reverse gear? If so I'd try raising your shift knob height, or adjust the gate setting to 1. That way you'll feel less effort is needed to shift into reverse. Reverse gear is cut differently than 1-6, and with the lockout mechanism it's normal for it to be notchier in engagement.
Pawinning ok got it! Yeah because i adjust the height of my shift knob i lowered it a little bit i’ll try both of them its either or right? Thanks for the reply
