Dude the look on his face after riding his bike for the first time was absolutely priceless. Thanks Joe for being so nice and doing that for him at no cost.
Life lesson, bike owner running into a brick wall, spending money, and going nowhere. A fresh set of eyes (old Joe) looks at the problem and Pow - fixed
It was absolutely worth it! I love working on machines, and I truly enjoy meeting other enthusiasts, and helping out where I can! Thank you for watching! I appreciate it!
@@thebigguy8306 Thank you for your kind comment! I appreciate it!
@@2vintageya bro your a legend
Joe what you did for that guy was awesome. We need more people like in this world.
Reminds me of an "old soul" The previous generation who didn't throw things away when they were broken
@@greathornedowl3644with the way he throws parts at shit he may as well 🤣
@@samlwackson8696 I had a mechanic like that, keep replacing parts until he get to the right one. rear brakes squeaking, so I replaced the alternator and water pump.
Thank you for watching and commenting! I truly enjoy meeting other enthusiasts, and helping out where I can! Thank you for watching! I appreciate it!
@@thebigguy8306 haha, I’m not shitting on him, it just drives me nuts, my dad was a motorcycle mechanic, plane, diesel, and he’s got OCD, so he’s just instilled in me not to throw parts at stuff like that. Joe does a good job, and makes great content. I’m not sitting here saying I’m a better wrench. To pump out the videos at the rate he does , there’s a chance it’s not worth the time properly diagnosing and better to make another video installing new parts. Nobody wants to what you sift through a wire loom for a loom and use a multimeter. Which in that case, genius. 🤣
After watching several of your videos involving hard to start bikes, I've come to the conclusion that your right leg must now be significantly stronger than your left. I'm surprised you didn't walk in circles. Awesome videos!
Think his right light would be like Popeye's forearms, or a football running backs
Yes. This guy certainly kicks a bike over hard. Could have done with him before trying to get my 490 started. Standing almost upright and slamming down like that for 5 mins certainly wears you out. Feels great though.
good one
Reminded of buying "well-used" bikes and taking many kicks to start. Ah, being able to afford "slightly used" and/or new with electric start
Haha it gets a good work out! Thank you for watching! I am glad that you enjoyed the video!
That mark on the stator plate is from the timing chain rubbing
Nice that you did that for him. It's good to be kind to people when you can. You could tell kid was happy and appreciated it. Your good at what you do joe.
Thank you for your kind words! It was absolutely worth it! I love working on machines, and I truly enjoy meeting other enthusiasts, and helping out where I can! Thank you for watching! I appreciate it!
There’s nothing better or more satisfying than finally slaying the dragon you’ve fought for weeks. I could literally hear the joy and excitement in your voice. As a mechanic I know the feeling well, makes all the pain worth it in the end.
Well done Sherlock, UA-cam should give you an award for perseverance!!!! It does not surprise me about the kick shaft, think of the stress you put through it in trying to get it to kick. Also geez knows what it had been put through before you got it. I would have been real pissed after the re build, so a well deserved beer mate.
Thank you for watching! I appreciate it!
Congratulations Joe! You never give up. That's what separates you from the pack! Vinny! Happy Easter to you and your family.
Happy Easter! Thank you for the comment! I appreciate you watching!
Great to see him happy with his bike and grateful for the work you done. Cool genuine guy👍👍
It was awesome to see him so happy! I truly enjoy meeting other enthusiasts, and helping out where I can! Thank you for watching! I appreciate it!
I am 39 yrs old. I raced as a teen and took a little 10yr break. I am now looking to get nack into riding. However in az people seem to want astronomical prices for early 00s bikes. Thank you for doing what you do. I have learned a ton watching.
He was happy. Good job!
Curious....MY 03 had a DeComp lever on the left bar that made it easy to kick so the kickstart shaft wouldn't break!
Your videos are pleasantly addictive. I enjoy the methodical way you take us through the troubleshooting process step by step. I keep trying to figure out what your next step will be and if I can guess what the solution is before you get there. For some reason I can't wait for my bike to break down now :)
There's nothing like helping out a friend when you know they really appreciate it.
That is absolutely true! Thank you for watching!
Kudos to you
Really nice of you to fix that kids bike for free.
Love it when people pay it forward.
Your video are extremely helpful and I have learned heaps from your journey.
I would never have guessed the magnets on the flywheel were the issue.
I will certainly look for that one in future if all the std electrical stuff checks out.
One tip. use contact cleaner on all the connectors and a dab of Di-electrical grease particularly on the stator plugs and the plugs on the front down tube as those are always getting covered in Mud and get wet when riding in wet conditions.
I’m glad you don’t give up , I would always be working till early morning hours on my old vintage bikes to finish what I would start. You have a good attitude and glad you also finish your projects. My old 2 strokes were so much easier, but they would have their issues also. I stayed glued to your videos, and very impressed! Well done!😀
Recently went thru the same thing on a xr80 that had a bad stator , glad to see diagnosis in the process instead of throwing parts at it .
It is awesome to see his reaction after you fixed his bike, he seem very very happy. Hoping we can see more of these type of videos. Cheers from the Philippines.
I was happy to do it! I love working on machines, and I truly enjoy meeting other enthusiasts, and helping out where I can! Thank you for watching! I appreciate it!
The mark on the back of the stator is the timing chain hitting it. But I'm sure you knew. Keep up the captivating videos bud!
Your very good at diagnosing electrical issues! I'm learning a lot bud. Keep up the great work . thank you
Thanks man! That means a lot! I appreciate you watching the videos! I am glad that you enjoy them!
You show us new stuff all the time. I've never seen a shaft like that break like that, huh. You have no quit in you. You don't give up, you fix it. Great thing you did for that young man.
Thank you for your kind words! That means a lot! It was absolutely worth it! I love working on machines, and I truly enjoy meeting other enthusiasts, and helping out where I can! Thank you for watching! I appreciate it!
Sometimes mechanics feels more like religion…that hallelujah moment is magical…nice work…
For a min I didn't think that bike was gonna start. Sounds way better then the kick starter broke and my jaw dropped, oh man what a bummer.
Hope the guy with the 250 has a great time with it, that was awesome to help him out he looks very happy.
Wicked good job joe!! I’ve got an 01 cr125R that I bought with the motor out because someone broke a case half trying to split it with a flathead screwdriver lol. I’ve bought all the replacement parts but I have a hard time assembling stuff that I didn’t disassemble myself. I’d be more that happy to send you my motor and pay u to make a video of putting it back together. It’d need a new piston, and most likely cylinder, which is gladly order for you too. I believe the crank is good, absolutely no up and down play.
It’d be awesome to have ur help but I’d understand if I didn’t want to. Either way, love watching u grow!!
Well done on the red bike. Way to pay it forward.
Can I suggest a clamp type spark checker? Holds the plug solid to ground. You'll free up one hand and won't be fooled into thinking you have intermittent spark. 👍👍💯
That bloke who had the crf250 you have got yourself a nice bike i hope you get alot of enjoyment out of it
Perfect timing for this video, my buddy is working on the same no spark issue on a 2001 RM125.
New to the channel and have just been binge watching all the rebuilding videos and they are leaps and bounds better than any other channel on YT! Keep up the good work!
Gotta stick up on that mechanical knowledge before fixing any dirtbike are quads 100% and entertaining to
I had this happen to my 06 kawi 450. Could only bump start it. Found the problem through thumper talk. So addicted to your channel my man. Love it.
That was an amazing repair on the YZ! I was wondering if the magnets on these things get weak, because they do on the magnetos of antique tractors and engines. The type on antique engines can actually be recharged with a powerful electromagnet. Anyway, it was an interesting diagnosis, and the work you did in the other fellow's bike was a very nice gesture!
just recently discovered this guys and channel and you seem like such a nice dude, defo need more people like you for real.
Just changed the rotor on my 2011 fz1. Yamaha had a problem with magnets falling off on early r1 genesis engines. Same engine used in 06-16 fz1. I love your videos. I've learned a lot in just 2 days. Owe crap, just got to the end where the shaft snapped. Total bummer after the great fix.
It’s nice to see I’m not the only person that pays it forward! Your a good man who uses his gift to teach others and to help others. God bless brother.
It was absolutely worth it! I love working on machines, and I truly enjoy meeting other enthusiasts, and helping out where I can! Thank you for watching! I appreciate it! God's blessings to you as well!
That's one happy guy. Riding the CRF after all this time and money put into it must feel great.
He has totally transformed it from a beater, to something anyone would be proud to own.
You can't get a break with this Yamaha Joe.
Thank you for watching! I appreciate it!
Thank you Joe. Your making this world better one person at a time
Bless your heart.for helping g that young man out
Good deal, I know how he felt riding his bike for the first time. Back when I was a kid, my dad brought home a 1977 Yamaha yz400 with the top end and many parts in a box. I spent six months buying parts and putting the bike together. I rode it for four years until I was 18 and could get a job and save up for a 1982 Honda cr250r.
very nice to do that for free Joe !!!! always nice to see you working on a bike that has problems , we can learn so much from it !!!
Nice job there Joe. Electrical issues are a world of their own. 👊👊👊
Thank you for watching! That is definitely true!
To vintage you are the man you get it started every time
Literally did the same on my 05 kick it so much the output shaft broke the at same place that’s wild they must have had a defect in the casting
Damn, i needed this information bak in 1999, when my tunned YAMAHA DT50 died on me! I tunned it so it go up too 120kmh and rpm up too 11 000. I bet the viberations killed my magnets just like this bike! I never look there! I remember i put down whole engine, but i also remember i never look just there on magnets!Pitty, i sold it for 300 EURO, when i buy it for 1100 Euro! WOnder if the guy that buy it, ever got it too work! Maby it still are on same place, leaved, and nobody wanna it!U are werry skilled mechanic!Love ur channel!
Class! The satisfaction in doing these kind of things is absolutely addictive. Excellent vid dude. You're the Gandalf of bikes!
Way to go helping him out with the crf. Hopefully he will enjoy riding it and help someone out down the road remembering how you helped him. Good job. 😊
It was absolutely worth it! I love working on machines, and I truly enjoy meeting other enthusiasts, and helping out where I can! Thank you for watching! I appreciate it!
😅I’m still following. That one is now on my don’t buy list. Thanks for not giving up. I think you only gave up a couple times since I’ve been on here. You bought something to far gone and crusty.
Another great video!, it was nice to see the smile on the owner of the red bikes face. Keep up the great videos!
That's some hard kicking there dude. I do the same with my 490 getting almost upright off the seat when I'm kicking it over. Feels great.
Maybe the kick start arm was tweaked from a previous crash, that bike was whaled on as we used to say. And did I hear Vinnie bark for the first time - takes a lot to get him worked up! ;-)
Great video Joe! Absolutely awesome to see you get them running!! Unfortunately I understand the kickstart problem, where you get one thing fixed and then another thing happens, just the unfortunate nature of race machines! Hope to see it run again soon! Happy Easter to you and your family!! We all love the videos, keep up the great work!!
Happy Easter to you and your family as well! Thank you for watching! I appreciate your encouragement! I am so glad that you enjoy the videos!
Ah that sucks bro. I don't know why they would put a hollow shaft on a Kickstart but it shouldn't be too hard to replace and I know you will figure it out. Good luck bud 👍🏻
That would be the second one that he broke on that bike.
Excellent video. Great job helping that guy out with his bike
That's an awesome service you did for that guy. 👏🏾👏🏾
Watched all 3 videos ! Way to not give up, great job
I have an 86 Honda 200x and I finally re did the rear swing arm bearings and new master cylinders front and rear and pads with a new chain, oil change, air filter and it made an insane difference
great work man.
Absolutely the best atv/dirt bike mechanic on UA-cam! But after all the videos I've learned to stay the hell away from the YZ sires of bikes and quads. They're junk I don't care what people say Honda is King 👑👑
He is one happy guy. I think you've made a new best friend 👌🏾🙏💯
those older four strokes have a special starting procedure. Im sure you can find it on a forum somewhere. Its something like give the throttle a couple pumps and then put your hand on the handlebar away from the throttle so you arent inclined to twist it and then get the piston just past top dead center and kick. This may help getting it started easier. Im not sure if that is the exact sequence but I'm sure you can find someone that knows more about it. My 04 crf250r worked best with that one.
Man jo jo, you are a real one my friend. Straight up.
Way to stay with it Joe 🎉 crazy on the flywheel deal -wow GREAT job
Friend for life possibly : ] . Kind of sounds passionate about machines like you .
Nice research congratulations I spoke too soon bummer Joe happy Easter .
I worked on a 2001 YZ-250F and it would bump start every time, but never kick start. I researched and the fix was to split the carb where it is put together at the factory. Yamaha does not sell the o-rings, but you can get them from All Balls. Swapped them out and it firs right up
Hi Joe.... Nice Job! I can't believe there was not any smoke coming out of the pipe at first start. It look very clean while running. SWEET! BRRRRRPP!! haha
Glad you got that bike figured out!
Wow, got it running and then the kick-start Brock. But it sounded good.👍
You have sooooooooo much patience. I would have booted this one to the curb.
The Yammy wasn't done at the 2Vintage spa yet hehe. Glad to see she fired up for ya. Also awesome to see your subscriber finally get to ride his bike with a big grin on his face! Keep up the great content Joe.
Those 03 yz250f are bad for breaking the kickstarter shaft I replaced mine with a wr250f kick started shaft and it worked great
I celebrated so hard seeing it run, wow amazing job !! ur the best.
Someday, you will meet a girl.
Oh man, Glad to see her run man!!! but I am gutted for you after breaking that kick starter shaft... but I know you will get her fixed up...
Good job joe …very well done of diagnostic like always
That's one big beautiful blue spark!
can you kick it any harder mate?
beat me to it shagga
Lol
It doesn’t start cause you kick it soo hard the rod is broke in half and jammed sideways in the case 😂
That’s how you kick a dirt bike. He’s doing it correctly
@@kelliegrase4658 it was a joke, but I have been ridi my dirt bikes for 22 years and raced for 3 and that in fact is not how you need to kick a dirt bike.. you don’t even have to kick a 450 bike that hard to start it lol.
Great job and nice getting bike working for other guy
You kicked that bike over a million times expecting something different everytime. Time to start thinking more. The broken lever is a prime example of it.
That guy that picked up the 10,000 bike - no comment necessary.
greetings from DUBLIN IRELAND you are amazing keep the videos going
Could the marks on the stater be from chain rub on the back? Not being able to see it clearly hinders my perspective but that’s my assessment
Great you helped the young man out
terrible design, the kicker keeps slamming into the foot peg, gotta pray the devil off that bike !!
Older bikes did that to deadhead the kicker otherwise it would put a lot of stress into the kicker mechanism
ya that shaft must flex like a mofo.
Awesome work brotha. Can’t believe the kick start snapped. Your leg is made of steel haha. Looking forward the then next video. Side note. My bike cost me 8100 bucks. So I think 10k ain’t bad considering all the after market parts he has.
Before doing an ohm test you need to check the resistance of you're test leads and subtract it from you're reading of the component you're testing! I'm watching, rooting for you!! I'm at around 7 and1/2 mins in on the video
Not for the readings he is getting. If he was trying to find 4 or 5 ohms, than yes, his leads would be making a significant contribution.
Joe, if you got a subscriber for every kick you did on a motorcycle, you would be #1 on u.t.
What a great series thank you great job
So cool that you were able to get that guys bike up and running.
Using the big drill to spin the engine - with sparkplug OUT, of course - is an excellent way to be absolutely sure if you have spark or not.
Is it the timing chain rubbing on the back of the stator plate?
We knew it had to be electrical, but omg, crazy fix. I hate electrical issues. That just needs broke in and it's good. I think all 3 failed.
That CRF is SICK!
Wow broke the shaft. That was quite a bit of diagnostic thinking there.
Match wire plugs before you order it. Had guys bring stuff in convinced their stators were shot. Cleaned up magneto and coils. They started working fine. All with required readings.
word of advice.. if it is spray paint, just use some solvent to wipe the paint off. dont scratch it off with something metal.
The magnets coming out.. i had the same issue on my 2006 Arctic cat 400 4x4.. the magnets were glued in, so the glue came undone, and then a magnet came out of it, previous to me getting it, and i saw that i had spark sometimes, and not at other times. i bought an after market flywheel, with the magnets as one piece. replaced it, and now it charges, and runs and everything is great.
I bet the magnet is not spinning, and or grounding out.
the worn spot on the back of the stator is from the timing chain.
Great video as always
Sos un genio como no vivir cerca de vos serías mi más fiel mecánico saludos bro desde Argentina 🇦🇷🇦🇷
way cool to see the bike get picked up and riden.
Always worth it to bring another joy and to see it with that smile makes it all worth it i live by a motto if i can make 1 person smile then my day was worth waking up for.
I had the same exact experience a few years back. I bought a rm250 and literally went threw all the same things you did new top end carb gone through and after I did everything it decided to finally loose all spark. Well after replacing everything in ignition system I replaced the flywheel and that was it. Mine didn't show any signs of damage but it was bad and worked after I replaced it. Always through it was a bit of a myth flywheels loosing there magnetism but nope mine looked to be in perfect shape and still would stick a screw driver but somehow was bad
I feel ya Joe...just got it running and kick shaft broke. Had same thing happen years ago but instead it was a Mojave and the shifter shaft. Except you used far less 4 lettered * words. Also 10k dude 😎 as hell and you also for fixing it. He even airated your yard for spring growing in appreciation. I DIG it! Lol. Bad dad joke.
“Best feeling ever!” Minty Jade is like “oh really?”
You should never have to kick over a bike that violently to get it to start. give it a few slow prime kicks, find TDC and give it a firm kick accelerating all the way through the stroke. If you can't get it going that way then kicking harder and harder isn't going to help. Try keeping your butt on the seat when you kick it over so your not putting unnecessary stress on the kick starter. Hope you can get it moving next vid!
I actually agree with that except its almost therapeutic to just crank on an engine Like a madman
Thats really good of you. had an aprilia flywheel with broken magnets. think its a consequence of bad bottom end bearings and the crank not running true and eventually things on stator start getting clattered. had me puzzled for weeks where i also learnt about the broken magnets becoming two separate magnets that also halves the amount of energy they generate apparently.....should of studied harder a physics but good to know for the future
