I don't think its insinuated its dealt much damage? Given its basically a dang flesh wall at that point. It ends with it crying on the mountain peak before zapping away. No one is sure, because the only guy that was looking saw its face and is just done with seeing things now, if you get me
HP a Lovecraft is fun because his entire body of work is defined by fear of change which usually means fear of new things but also old houses and penguins.
Penguins are one of the most grotesque creatures on earth, tho... Even the magnapinna squid are more attractive compared to those hideous creatures of primal masonry.
One of my favorite bits of this story is that Armitage is one of Wilbur's penpals and actually comes to visit him in Dunwich once. It makes way more sense why Armitage would let him in to read the Necronomicon, and why Armitage so quickly becomes a believer in what Wilbur might do with unfettered access to it. Also props to Dr. Morgan for insisting on repping the .700 Nitro Express, lol

The combination of creeping and growing horror mixed with an element of scientific discovery, then throw in a small group of brave men willing to stand against the evil and a payoff at the end as the horror is met and fought. Thank you for reading this one.
Opening with a chapter-length description of Dunwich and its surroundings was a brilliant idea on Lovecraft’s part. I love that he takes time to bring us into the atmosphere of the story, and he does it so evocatively that we feel the town’s deep-rooted weirdness before we know anything about Armitage or the Watleys.
These are always so long and a bit hard to understand with the writing style, but that's my favorite part about them. It gives me a lot to imagine while I'm listening to it. It makes it the best stories to listen to while playing Minecraft. That's why I'm always down for audiobooks. The way they're read here is amazing. The added voice acting recently really elevates the experience too. Nice as always.
It's very American. 19th century American, that is. If you read some Edgar Allan Poe you will see where Lovecraft got the style. Even some of the themes. Poe has a prose novel called The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket, where you see almost all the odd elements found a century later in Lovecraft, like in particular the curious blend of science and mysticism. But he also has many short stories that pull in a similar direction.

I know I’m not supposed to but I can’t help but feel a little bad for the monster near the end. At the edge of death, pleading for help from his absent father, never meant to exist in the first place. It’s a tragic thing being unwillingly yanked out of nonexistence into a world that couldn’t accept you. You really nailed the delivery
So I listen to these as I fall asleep at night and fell asleep roughly 10 min in and woke near the end hearing "HUUUNGH UHHHH" I was so confused and disoriented
Dude Mangg's talent and dedication is honestly something else. Bro started doing female voices like a couple months ago and he's already got them down good enough to completely pass my suspension of disbelief, not to mention the accent work. Keep it up man
I love the fact that since Alhazred was crazy and wirshipping the Old Ones, he wrote from their perspective and thus calls their reign 'summer' and mankind 'winter.' such a subtle detail in a book within a book within a sidepiece of a story supposedly all about Wilbur and the mad shit he does, but it just makes this whole world feel so much more alive.
I always liked that despite being a worshipper, even HE wrote plenty of "This is how you do this summoning, NEVER FUCKING USE IT IT IS WAY TOO DANGEROUS"

I first got into exploring series back when he did the cathulu stories then got hooked with the mythology stories. Then he did SCP foundation for a long time. Lol got me right back with hp lovecraft
Scps brought me here kept me here and introduced everything else he does and I'm all through a good portion of his content and dread when I complete this collection.

This was the first story I read from HP Lovecraft back in 96 in a book together with The Call of Cthulhu. It still remains an incredible suspenseful and clever piece of writing. It also seems like it could be something that could be easily adapted for television.
*Spoilers for the end* I was thinking the invisible monster would sound like an excuse for a film to save money and go "the monster is invisible!' - except it was written some time before that was really a thing.
To hear this book after reading it... Lovecraft's work is far reaching, but limited by his personal fears. Salute, exploring series, you presented this story masterfully👍🏽

There are indeed other readings of this story, but it's difficult to do well, not least because of all the voices. The British readers especially stumble there, unfortunately. I am grateful for every new version, as each has its own special appeal and strengths!
I bet it's challenging to stay professional when doing this work, and resist the urge to editorialize. I don't think I could read that line about "olfactory immaculateness" without an involuntary chuckle. :)

it took almost a week to translate and perceive every word from the first half hour of audiobook. i wish i could be able to digest this value at one day-
You do such an awesome job at voice and these characters, even those crazy accents you've got nailed down. I remember when you preferred not to do SCP's or stories with characters that you had to voice. I'm glad you decided to go for it.
