Thanks for covering my article! I love the adaptation, and am eagerly awaiting part 2! 🙂 Although a lot of the subtext of the original article couldn't be translated into the audio-visual summary format (e.g. particular inflections, textual mistakes in the document that the Ethics Committee points out, Byrnes & the EthComm insisting on calling Marley "it" in the documentation, Morgan McPharrell's earlier role in the story), I still think you did an excellent job encapsulating the tension of the build up. Looking forward to next week! 😄 (I'll write a longer comment on Part 2, after everyone gets The Trauma haha)
It's this SCP ... I hate it, but in a good way The worst part is that in an SCP-8066 tale, which is an SCP where SCP-2006 breaks out of containment and forces everyone to live their worst nightmare, he doesn't even change anything for Lillian, because she's already living her worst nightmare. Truly horrifying.
If this is her worst nightmare, then she must not be very imaginative. This would be a vacation compared to horrific fates I've contemplated, which don't even make my top 100 most awful fates worse than death. I'm sure people who are writhing in constant agony within the depths of that infectious slurry ocean monster (800-something), or being hunted through a maze by 106, would gladly endure twelve years of minimum security prison with no computer access and a slightly condescending jailor, if it got them out of a day or so of the misery they're enduring.
@@mattd5240 This is so realistic it is almost gut-revolving... I read it a while ago and I HATE - all with capital letters- Head Researcher Byrnes more than any other SCP persona depicted so far.
@RorysHappyHouse Spoilers By the end of the story, Lillian is too mentally broken to do any work. Towards the end, Lillian is literally begging Byrnes to be let out and is offering to sleep with him if he would. Byrnes said that if he wanted to do that, he would have. The worst part is that Byrnes isn't even really punished, he's only amnestisized and fired.
This one- this SCP is an utter vile masterpiece. If you’ve ever heard of stories such as Borassca, where there’s themes of expecting some supernatural horror only to expect the even worse horror of ACTUAL reality to gut punch you in the face, you’ll be knowing how terrible this is going to get.
Oh… I see where this is going. The fact that Byrnes fits such a perfect description of abusers in positions of power, the fact that he knows exactly what to say to those above him to avoid repercussions, and the fact that he’s not afraid to abuse his power over the situation to strike incriminating things from the record… I’m calling it now, and if I’m right, know this is a called shot and not a spoiler. This “anomaly” was no accident… and this is all a very thin metaphor for workplace abuse, in the psychological, emotional, and if I know the parallels this draws from, eventually sexual sense. It is the darkest parts of humanity, and while it takes place in a setting where true reality bending horrors can and do take place, this is likely no paranormal or supernatural anomaly. This is a man, realizing his dislike for a specific coworker, but also his inexplicable attraction to her. This is him realizing that he has the potential to fabricate an entire web of “incidents” to keep any authority from interfering between them, as he gains almost total control over a woman despite her best efforts to follow the rules and avoid him. This is him using his power, connections, and systemic knowledge of the foundation procedures to completely take over and derail her life, leaving her so trapped and broken that he can do whatever he wants to her, while her protests go unheard and unheeded for years. This is her personal hell, and he’s elected himself her tormentor. Given people’s reactions to this SCP and the sheer amounts of “Oh, it’s THIS one, Jesus Christ,” I take it I’m not on the wrong track.
Ding ding ding! You're on the money! All of the comments on the article are also just "this left me feeling so hollow on the inside" and I absolutely agree
