Yes, please keep the tech in. I’m an engineer and having someone like you explain things like this in understandable terms with a demonstration is a great way to learn
agreed. The target audience is people who have lifted the hood on their own car and- at least- attempted to diagnose their own problems. I have a tach light that my father gave me, and I have never used it. Would love to see a dig where setting the timing to factory specs was involved.
Agreed. I’ve owned one of these cars and having a simple explanation for how to fix them is what people need. That’s what people need and how these cars were meant to be worked on.
That hood can be straightened. Just need to get it to the right person. Don't give up on it.
and you can just drive it bent until the right person sees it and offers to give it a few experienced whacks.
What's the guys name from cold War motors? Guys an old metal genius
Agreed don't see an issue with fixing that
100% that's fixable. Just needs a tappy tap tap hear & there, TBF I'd straighten the worst of it so it latches fine and leave any smaller creases, they're now part and parcel of the car's patina & tell the story better than words could.
Very fixable, just get a bit of heat on the frame, it will go back.
As a 58 year old man I love what you guys do it brings back old memories of me as a young mechanic fresh out of school.Keep on doing what you guys do love it!
This is my official request for an Icecream Truck revival.
Revive an old rusty one and make into a Sweet Tooth truck from Twisted Metal!
Bit late here but YES.
Plz
I absolutely lost it at: “It’s got two screws a zip tie and a bolt. I’m calling that good” 😂😂
"And this is the first test by the way, I press on the accelerator and, it goes full throttle and then I die."
You definitely need to do the junkyard episode.
Yes
And pick a car and fix and then do donuts with it.
You pick what to revive in the junkyard itself. Gotta get the car that you have found the tools to fix it with.
I'd love to see something revived I a junkyard. Just you, hand tools, a welder, only two power tools of your choice, and a Junkyard Mook. No outside parts.
and make.us vote witch one to start in the junkyard
The 'tech' or explanatory learning experience is good with me. Who cares on how long video is. Longer the better for me
True
Same I honestly don't care if it 5 hours long I'll still watch it
A actual junkyard revival would be interesting, only can use items in junkyard to revival would be neat caveat, I would watch it.
I've always wanted to see a episode like that
Junkyard Wars on Discovery was kinda cool. They could have gone further but there was some decent shade-tree ingenuity there.
@@agentelvis81 I liked the show but it left room for scripting imo
Roadkill did that
@@asianinashed is it a newer road kill episode on their paid for channel or back when it was free on YT? Because I can't remember it
Brilliant video! Im in UK and have a number of MGBs. I would love to see a polish up video of the car lets see how good it comes up. I think the patina will be great.
This bought back some great and fond memories of my old '68 Midget. I owned it for 11 years before an expanding family forced its sale. Great memories. Thank you 😊👍
I wanna see the no tools junkyard revival
how about he's allowed one flat screwdriver, one wrench, ductape and fluids (oil, brake fluid and the likes)
He can just punch everything like he did with the hood!
Bennicilline no tools at all, he can have a knife and supplies that’s about it, supplies would consist of bailing wire zip ties a battery a battery charger and he would have to wear a shirt that says TENG TOOLS
Same
100% agree, bring the scooby van and make it happen
Sending out prayers to all the farmers in Iowa that storm messed up so much!
Good job. Gives new meaning to "drive by wire".
Yes! Please add any tech information you feel like adding! I am learning so much between your channel and Luke's channel. I'm a senior citizen living in a senior citizen development. Last week the heat shield was peeling off my muffler on my old Impala. I had no problem lying under the car and cutting it off because I had become so comfortable with my car from watching your videos. Of course, three neighbors came out to see if I was alive 😂😂😂
"Keep your palm open when you push"
10 years into pro wrenching and I still forget... bloody knuckles to prove
I would totally love to see a video of reviving a car out of a junkyard. Also I can't wait for that Oldsmobile video next month 😂 I have a 71 Oldsmobile cutlass, and you never really see videos on the A body cutlass, because it's usually the Chevelle that gets love, or it's a g body cutlass.
Yes😊please do it
In England,MG and Healy enthusiasts would sell a kidney to get such a rustless example...
Yep. I saw Grind Hard Plumbing co bought a spitfire from the 60s and it was so rust free, made me sad
Two, at least two !!!
And here I am, with 2, 65’ healeys. Gonna molest the shit outta one and drop a 1.3 turboed Suzuki engine in it.
@@willm5032 yeah that was so hard to watch, could have used a miata or something common but no cut up a perfect rust free spitfire shell that would have made an amazing restoration
ADub how could you do that?
When the first episode dropped i was like I’ll never watch that dude but spent the last 24 hours and binged watched COLEEEE THE CORNSTAR! His “mansion” is absolutely amazing and i never knew a farmer did so much work!
Lol same, I'm like who tf is this guy and i go to his channel and spend the next 10 hours watching his videos.
He can come across as obnoxious on the surface, and it took me a couple months looking at his thumbnails pop up in my suggested to actually click on one, but then he’s now become one of my favorite UA-camrs lol
@@wadewilson6628 Wow, what's it like to have parents that don't love you?
@@poisonwatersupply straight to it😂😂
Mook always makes me smile. She is so awesome
Agree about the junkyard episode, and more in depth explanation about systems. You're one of the best at explaining how/why things work or don't, and how to fix. 👍
I like it when you and Luke talk about the tech side of it.
Can't believe the little fella survived the hurricane I almost got blown off the road between AMES and NEVADA in a big truck!!! Lol
I think the little car had less wind blowing on it than your big truck because it was smaller less wind was hitting it
@@christianparker8230 The car would also have a lower center of gravity, that helps a lot with handling and wind.
Glad you're ok.
Looks like the barn blocked the wind
second best time you've had in a cornfield with a Midget?
lol! Nice!!!🤣🤣
Hey now 😂😂
mic drop!!
Don’t talk about my wife like that.
Remember we're not supposed to speak of the first time. We took a vow of silence.
I like watching your channel due to the fact that you fix everyrhing from boats to go carts, snowmobiles, cars , trucks. Dont change your content to be trendy. What your doing works for me. Your the best out there.
Kevin and Mook, I really enjoyed this video series. I had a Mk 3 (1971) Midget for 17 years. The most fun I ever had in a car, even at 30 mph. I really miss that little bug. I took my then 8 months-pregnant ex wife out to an Italian restaurant in it. Couldn't get her out of the car without help from the restaurant staff. She was not happy, and I sold the car shortly thereafter. Big mistake. Keep the fun and informative videos coming!
Darn thats tuff, I have a 77 280z, something about small old cars gets me goin
I love the sound of those Austin A-Series engines. They are an aggressive 1300ccs! They used them from 1948 until 2001, all that time they stayed competitive for power, reliability and fuel economy!
Might be late to this reply, but as I know it, the Nash Metropolitans (built out of the same factory as the MG's), had detuned versions of the 1200-1500cc motors. Mine has the 1500cc (1959). Heard they sounded like tractor engines when running in the Mets.
messing with A series engines was almost a rite of passage for those of us in the UK who bought cheap cars and fixed them up.
Gordon Mcgregor I’ve bought a 1980 British Leyland Mini Clubman and I’m restoring it now. The a series is a superb engine and I think any British engineering should be preserved as it’s awesome. When the mini is done I think an MGB is in store as they’re a great affordable classic
@@sam._.buswell8181 I had a '72 Clubman GT back in the dizzay. Fascinating little machines, and very capable when driven with some intent.
Everyone should have a classic car at some point in their lives, especially British sports cars
Not a B series engine?
A lot of us Kiwis too. my first car was a Morris 1100.
That’s a PERFECT Mook car (cute ‘n sassy) don’t you DARE sell it!! 🤣🤣
Yes it is just for mook 😂
I’ll buy that car lol
I mean honestly you're not wrong
I've watched a few revival videos from various different channels but I can honestly say that your channel is by far my favourite. Knowledgeable, innovative, resourceful and genuinely funny. Mook cracks me up every time. Keep doing what you're doing guys 👏👏👏
Kevin, you and Moon are amazing! You’ve breathed life into yet another machine and given it new purpose! Well done!
Need more tech, its ok if its longer. i enjoyed the last one
I like to learn, pound the basics into us!
Include the tech. If I already know it I can always skip forward, and sometimes I definitely use it as how to as well as entertainment.
Agree
Here you go, this is my idea for a series. You get Luke, Dylan, maybe Derek from VGG and you go to some classic car junkyard somewhere. You each buy a car for some amount of money (obviously the same budget), revive it, and take it straight on power tour. At the end of Power tour you sell the car and the person who makes the most profit is the king of the revivals for a year. All of you cut your videos together and each channel gets a part.
This is criminally underrated
Isn't that a ripoff of Junkyard Wars?
Fuck it. Rip it off... Need more shows on fixing shitty things like rusty junk vehicles!
My money is on the Mustie1 dude. He has 20+ years of experience on the rest of them at digging up bones and making them dance again. Plus he fixes every kind of engine, new and ancient. Many where he has to make his own parts b/c of discontinuation and age.
mwyatt222 yes, but Mustie1 using a field working with hand tools? I’d love to see it, it would be a dream cross over but I can’t imagine he would.
Ghost Fox junkyard wars was a show about building something entirely new out of junk material. If you want to say it’s a rip off of anything it would be Top Gear or Trebant Trek. But with the revival angle.
I enjoyed this and would like to see more of this car being brought back to life. Keep up the good work.
I'm a general maintenance mechanic and I enjoy the tech in your videos. Especially when it comes to brakes! You explain things so clear and understandable. So yes, more tech. I also love the videos you and Mook put where you revive and drive. Just one question, will you do a video series on how to build a car to race at the dragstrips?😁😁😁😁
Greetings from the UK. Just watched your Midget in a Cornfield videos and your comment about "standard vs. metric" fittings. Metric was only introduced into Britain during the 1980's and all British cars up until then were built using "Imperial" (your Standard) parts and often a mixture of both as metric became cheaper and the British car industry headed for the junkyard. MG is now owned by a Chinese company and we now import Chinese cars with an MG badge. Keep up the good work.
YEEEES! I LOVE YOU JUNKYARD DIGS! You are a wonderful presence and personality, it is a joy to watch you!
Oh man, I thought this revival was recorded earlier this year, didn't realize it was finished up literally last week after that crazy weather we had.
For the first time in two years I'm caught up. Actually filmed this yesterday
Car sits untouched for 40 years...
Kevin: I'm going to fix this car.
Universe: I don't think so buddy.
I bought a 79' Subaru DL rebuilt engine but no carb. Machined an aluminum plate so i could bolt a 1 barrel autolite carb to it....fired up right away. Tied a piece of kite string to the throttle, drove around the block twice, in the process the rear bumber fell off because it was a total rust bucket! Found a buyer for the engine, pulled it by hand, and junked the car......This MG video trilogy took me down that memory lane. Thanks you!
I love the tech tips. Even when you're talking about something I already know, I don't breeze through it because many times you show a trick that I find awesome.
the hood will buff out, go find the tonya harding...
That comment is factory 😂😂
cringe
I'm going to pretend I didn't see that

Junkyard no tools digs
This I would love to see
With the corn field and everything, nobody is going to make a "The Mook is out there" joke and play the xfiles theme song?
I was thinking "If you build it, she will come".
Or tin foils hats like movie signs
I'm not going to lie, the main reason I even watched part 3 was in a hope that you would drop more tech stuff about cars in general. Keep up the good work :D
The sound of my youth. I miss it so much. My father(Roger Barr from CCC, and lately at The Paddock in New Britain, CT), still builds A Series, B Series, Twin Cams and VW Flat Fours for all comers, including Formula V. Small, Rorty British 4 bangers in cars, and especially on the Dyno in the back of the Foreign Car Shop in Glastonbury CT is literally some of the best sounds from my youth....
That Midget is gonna be a beauty. Had a '75 myself back in the day and even though it was sometimes... ok often... a royal pain in the ass I still miss that scrappy little car.
I’d love more tech tips. I’m 16 and restoring my grandpas 1969 Chevy C10, already engine and trans swapped it but still got more to go.
I never thought I'd see the day when a 1968 MG is a "Run by Wire" car. It's a diamond in the rough. Nice find.
The sites and sounds (too bad no smells!) bring back so many memories. My first car in ‘78 was a ‘64 MGB. Then got a ‘59 A55, then a ‘64 Woolsely (triple SU’s) - that thing was quick. Looked like a 55 Chevy that had gone through the hot water wash and shrunk!
Cole the Cornstar fan here. So glad you got it to run and that you wound up on my UA-cam feed. Great Job!
Oh man....watching you get out of that tiny car. It looks like a gocart next to you. LoL
you should start bloopers at the end of the vids
yessss id totally watch the bloopers to!!!!
Love the Technical Stuff! I'm Learning quite a bit from your Channel. Cheers!
hood could be straitened fer sure :) i was expectin worse really
I would have laid it on the ground and stepped right on the dent with my foot. Kevin started punching it with his palm.
The ideas you mentioned in the video would be great. I really enjoy the 73-79 Ford revivals the best. More of those would be cool, maybe a dentside bronco if you can find one?
What a kickass revival series. Got a lot of love for the little deathtraps like this one. They run on potato motors but are so light that that's all you really need!
Of course they'res morons in the comments saying to engine swap it. Some cars are better left alone. But whatever I guess.
Not everything needs to be fast or V8 powered.
A 1275 A series is fine (previously used in the Mini Cooper S). A good well proven engine, BMC, British Leyland and Austin Rover used them for years in loads of different cars, though I read they detuned it to 65hp for the Midget because with 72hp it would have made the car faster than the more expensive MGB.
I hear ya. Some of the swap suggestions were obviously just people being wiseasses (which I encourage) but small block V8 swaps aren't anything new with the Midget. Drag racers did them in the 60s. Anyway, you definitely have a point - keep it stock and squeeze all you can out if it - that's hot rodding at its core.
@@wes11bravo Heck, lets just get a small turbo off of like, an ecoboost and jerry rig it on the MG engine, maybe itll make 100 horsepower!
@@riogrande163 -100hp just before it explodes, haha!
I'd like to see you actually CLEANING UP THIS ENGINE BAY! This car looks too good to be driven with an inch worth of dirt all over it 😉
It’s more than an inch. But it’s good Iowan dirt so it’s ok
More importantly the interior too.
I'd love to see you take a squiz at awakening a Screaming Jimmy sometime. Shouldn't be *too* hard to find one of those, and by god they're some of the best sounding engines around.
You couldn't be more right about the sound. I live in a nice middle class subdivision and I have a 4 cyl we stroke Detroit. Neighbors hate me
When it comes to putting oil in the dashpots on those carburetors, yes the service manuals/owners manual will say to use mineral oil and it does work just fine. We have also found that a thin weight motor oil (like 5W10 for example) works well and you can even use the viscosity as a tuning factor as a thicker weight oil will cause the slide to raise a bit slower and thinner will allow it to raise faster. While this was less important with a stock engine like yours, in our engines with big valves, head porting, and bigger cam profiles with lots of overlap that tended to have poor throttle response from idle to about 2,000 RPM the thicker oil slowed down the slide just enough to prevent the typical "flat spot " when going WOT from low RPM and also helped prevent backfiring through the exhaust on a hard deceleration. Also, if you really want that engine to run correctly those carbs need to be synchronized with vacuum gauges, or mercury sticks ( another form of vacuum gauge ). Basically you want to check vacuum simultaneously on both carbs between 1,500 to 2,000 RPM and then adjust the synchronization screw so vacuum reads the same, then check it at about 4,000 to 5,000 RPM. If the gauges on each carb don't show the same at higher RPM you may have to compromise with an adjustment that gets you close to the same vacuum at the lower RPM level and the higher RPM level as it's rare for both carbs to sync all the way through the entire RPM range. If you have pretty good synchronization at the lower RPM and higher RPM then your synchronization at idle should be good enough for easy starts and good Idle quality. Don't bother trying to adjust synchronization at idle because at idle the time span between intake pulses and the more erratic nature of airflow at low speed plus differences in ring/valve seal from one cylinder to the next will mean that if you get them synchronized at idle they will be way off the higher the RPM goes and that kills power, throttle response, and overall drivability.
I'm in eastern Nebraska & that derecho was crazy. We just had a severe T-storm move through with 96mph winds. A derecho isn't really tornados coming together but basically convective winds on the leading edge of a severe storm. More of a sustained wall of wind and arguably these straight line winds are more frequent and cause a lot of damage.
I'd like to see an abandoned train start.
So that is what they mean throttle by wire. BTW I'd like to a see a junkyard car brought back from the dead but only with stuff found in the junkyard cars.
Hey Kevin.. I've been watching you are so for a little while now I also watch vice grip garage I like what you doing and I got an offer for you if you're willing to travel to Massachusetts I have like a 19 50s maybe 60s Mercedes-Benz that is in really really good shape as far as the body and it runs it hasn't been started or on the road in quite a while so you would have to come up and go through it and you can have the car if you want you can reply to this and I will send you some pictures
Sewing machine oil is perfect for those side draught carbs-- i used it for 3years on my twin carbs and they work perfectly --- do not put heavy oil of any kind in those carb tops or the plungers won't lift up when accelerating..
What a great series and find for me! I have a `72 Midget sitting in the garage for a year now. It hasn`t ran for over 20 years. I know all about the carb linkage. Mine has a bit more rust. I`m inspired to get back to work on it.
Imma go ahead and say it: Mook is cute af.
You can save that hood.
You 2 crack me up
Down here never heard about no storm, I suppose news has more important things to talk about than our food supply and fellow Americans lives.
Been all over the news down here in Kentucky.
Woot woot Mook is back¡!!!!
I have learned a lot by watching your channel on carb, timing & distributors, keep it up
In part 2 you gave the best explanation of how a 4 stroke works that I ever heard. Please continue. Science is fun!

I have one of these, a 1979 1500cc model and you're right. Great little cars to drive.
If you're thinking of keeping it consider a slightly smaller steering wheel. (I'm six feet and not as flexible as I once was!)
Excellent three part series. All power to you both.
That fitting this video is 42 minutes long and this car has sat for 42 years
Edited that way bud true car guy 👌
I adore Mook, she has that Aubrey Plaza awkward coolness.
Had to look that name up. Aubrey was my grandfather's name.
I vote "YES" for a Part Four!
Really enjoyed your three video repairs on the 68 midget. I had a 1970 midget as well as a 1968 Austin Healey Sprite, same exact car as that. It was good to see you get her running and moving on her own. New subscriber.
I had to do the same to my VW when I popped the accelerator cable. I used a string and drove home with a finger. Love your work dude. Keep it up.
"Sounds like a boat when its under water."
Mook is so quirky & cute! You got yourself a good one there Kevin!
Definitely interested in the "tech" and I like the long videos.
A Leatherman tool and a junkyard, That would be neat! Find an old Opel and get that running. Back in the 80's when I was in high school, our auto mechanic teacher had one and helped two students restore theirs. Those old Opels looked great!
Awesome series guys. I love cars like the MG Midget. They handle like slot cars for sure. You did an awesome job getting the car running. That plus, I am addicted to the "Cole The Cornstar" and his family. Love watching his videos also. Thank you for the super entertainment!

Can We Get a SEIZED MG to Run After 42 YEARS! after swapping out the dead motor?

I'm actually about to do a project car (my first muscle car) and his videos are super helpful
Of course you drifted it immediately. Haha you guys are great. I'm sure MG never thought anyone would do this with one of their cars haha
MG were real sports cars in their day and were driven hard, so, yes; MG def thought they would be abused like that!
Thats basically what MG built them for! They're still used all the time as hill climb cars, its a shame MG isn't about anymore :(
I really enjoy the longer videos with all the info. Using my personal experience and everything I've learned from you guys I got a 73 ford f100 to run and idle after 12 years. Almost bought it too. But all the extra info is awesome! Keep it coming.
Best part of my Monday morning. Thank you for these videos, keep up the good work. Also....please do a revival with something that has an FE

MG cars including this one were built in my hometown in a small factory that is now a kitchen construction store. It is great to see it come back to life. MG is even today a huge part of the town and home to the Owners Club. I hope you can restore the car. If you need hard to find parts, just reach out to the Owners Club.
I am not only here for the fun, but I am here to learn as well! The tech is much appreciated!
So let me get this straight. Kevin is offering to break down and teach us useful information about engines and to give us longer videos... Where’s the choice Kevin?? 😂
Seconded.
She made me laugh until I cried, and a little tiny car will grow
Yes to the junkyard episode. And that hole in the drivers side rocker would make a good exhaust exit
I love teaching videos. Especially when taught in lamens terms for the common man. Thanks for making videos sir.
If you want to wire in a kill switch; just tie it into the headlight wiring. Turn the headlights on to run; off to kill. We used to hot wire VW's by pulling the license plate light wire and plugging it on to the + side of the coil. Headlights off = engine off Easy Peazy.
