  • The Scottsboro Boys were a group of nine black teenagers accused of rape in the 1930s South. The blatant injustice given to them during their trial lead to several legal reforms. Watch as Emory's Associate Professor of African American Studies, Carol Anderson, discusses what happened to these boys both during and after their trial.

This is history. It needs to be taught to every age appropriate students (middle school age) in our country. I’m a white man and lifelong citizen of Georgia. I’m always digging up history about Georgia. I want to know everything. The good and the bad. No hiding it. It’s part of the fabric woven in to our history. Don’t pull it out. Leave it there for those in the future to learn from.

She was white she went back home to her boyfriend and said the hundred $50 is gone because the man who raped me took it. Well after the 15 cops came to the scene and she went to the hospital and all of munch of jazz there was video tape surrounding the block where she had said it happened and it never happened and she admitted she lied she just didn't want her boyfriend know she spent $150 on drugs she got a couple months probation and 40 hours of community service. And I also am a Caucasian and I just thought it was completely ridiculous if it would have been a black woman saying that about a white cop that black woman would have been in jail for at least a year here in my town

The least we can do for these innocent young boys is to make their voices heard and their stories known. I encourage anyone and everyone to share this on their social media. You’re not born that way, it’s taught. Just because someone skin is different. Just because someone’s hair texture is different. Just because someone speaks a different language. This country will always be divided for those reasons. A nation divided, will always suffer and it will fall.

Almost every day now, I learn of another episode of American history - that at one time was hidden from sight. A history that clarifies the unending and unbearable suffering of the Blacks - the only immigrants ever forced to come to this country. The knowledge and increasing awareness of what they suffered is both difficult and painful to realize, and yet, never fails to make one's heart ache. We can be so cruel to one another. I am glad that the Black protests are only seeking justice - for they also have every reasonable justification to seek revenge. But they won't, since they know it far beneath the dignity they have always possessed, though it has not always been acknowledged. I cheer them on, and I actively join in their well-deserved and ever-approaching equality. Thank you for posting this!!

Thank you for posting this video. I did my college term paper on this case. The Scottsboro 9 didn't even all know one another. The church my father grew up in Mt. Shelby Baptist Church Marvell, Arkansas use to take up an offering every week for their defense.

Whoa, it really makes my blood boil hearing this but I'm glad to learn of it. Blacks in Africa and Europe suffered the same atrocities simultaneously...SMH. Thank you for sharing this story because it really opens my eyes to how NOTHING has changed where we're regarded and it's nearly 2020

What a video! She talks so well. Kept my focus the entire time. Although it was short people might tend to not pay attention all the time. Very well done.

I agree. She's very intelligent, but I have to say she could lighten up on the demonstrative gestures. We get it.

My heart and condolences go out to these innocent teens and their families who had to suffer through this great injustice of the justice system. RIP Scottboro Boys. Enjoy Heaven.
