It's funny how Daniel was trying to impress Kumiko by saying you have to be strong in mind and strength doesn't matter. Then when he gets called out on what he said, he tries to run away until he's forced to put up or shut up. Once again his mouth got him in trouble and Mr. Miyagi had to make him stand up and be a man.
Okinawa (formerly Ryuku kingdom) wasn't part of Japan for a very long time and had closer ties to Chinese culture. Karate Originally means "Chinese Hand" but was changed to "Empty Hand" when it was integrated to Japan in the early 20th century.

100% Sato knew. The breathing, and moving your hip and using all your body for your arm and hand is the technique to get power. Sato was oldschool and was also a " Miyagi Do" student trained by Mr Miyagi's father. He knew.
I noticed that Chozen was laughing at Daniel while doing the ritual, which leads me to believe that Sato never showed him that technique. He seemed more annoyed that Miyagi would even show a foreigner that.

Japan's had alot of American's in it since the surrender of Imperial Japan to America ending WW2. Japan is a major port for the US Navy and key strategic location for controlling the Pacific and keeping China, Korea and others in check they also have an agreement with the US to defend them against any invaders in exchange for not keeping a military capable of threatening its neighbors. Was also a major outpost during the Korean/Vietnamese Wars.
Amazing what one can accomplish when you have a great teacher or mentor that believes in you. In this scene, Daniel was still far from being a karate champion of any sort. But someone believed in him. And that was more than enough. Sato knew it was over the moment Daniel started prepping for the move to break the ice, because Sato was trained by the same person that trained Miyagi...Miyagi's father. When Sato saw how Daniel was loading up he knew because it was exactly how he himself was trained. He might as well have handed the money over before the ice was ever broken. It was more of a lesson for Chozen to keep his pride in check because he became the bitter seed that came from a bitter Sato.
@oliprj8676 He was barely past his teenage years when he fought Daniel. He was rash and overly emotional in his early 20s. He met him again in his 40s. It is possible to change your mindset given 20 years to do it and a lot of maturation. Sato felt ashamed by his own behavior after Miyagi saved him. In that frame of mind, he easily could have forgiven his nephew and apparently did in that storyline.
Sato was actually watching to see the bond Miyagi and Daniel have as student and teacher. In my opinion it showed a small window in the wall of hatred he had put up and gained a little respect for Daniel and Miyagi.
What the hell did Dani know about standing, anyway? Miyagi never taught him how to break objects, let alone in that odd position. Still he thought he could lecture the black guy and then he had to shut up
@@IAMTheNiteOwl What do you mean young version? It doesn’t matter if you’re young or old, you’re still the same person and not a different version of yourself.
Daniel was really the bad guy in these movies. In the first he got involved between Johnny and his ex. Here he tries to act like he knows everything and gets bailed out by miyagi. In the third he is just a coward the whole time and you realize his karate is garbage

It's just Daniel being Daniel...the bully that he is.
He didn’t have the money 😆
Even worse, Kumiko leaves, and he wanted to go after him for fear of facing the situation as a man, a regrettable scene
I’ve always loved how over the top Chozen is in this movie…..Even for a villain there is no subtlety, just goes in full of aggression…..
Chozen was awesome in this movie, and love how he is such a great character in Cobra Kai.

Daniel took so long focusing that the ice melted.

That means Daniel beat Trivette! He should be qualified to work as a Texas ranger.
Yea he was in the eyes of a ranger
By that logic he's qualified to be Mavrick's RIO in an F-14 as well.
I would love to know the backstory of Trivette going from Japan to a ranger in Texas. 😂
