Thank you SO MUCH for joining us today as we debut THE VERY FIRST Ember RV EVER to go thru production for the consumer public! We were given the distinction of being Ember RV's very first and "Original" dealer and just couldn't be more proud of what we see!
The RV is unlike anything we've ever featured at Bish's RV before and I'm incredibly excited to see it! From the Chassis to the roof there's absolutely nothing "conventional" to be seen here!
The ride and handling with the true independent suspension is amazing (tested it personally) and the RV just OOZES with upscale looks and feels! I can't wait to hear what you think about it!
We have these at several of our locations including Salt Lake City in Utah, Coldwater in Michigan, and more!!
Though the "Build" of the RV is completely uncommon the layout can also be found on these RVs:
    → Jay Feather 199MBS: bit.ly/3CwgRC3
    → Wildwood (Platinum) 178BHSK: bit.ly/3c543qc
    → Wildwood (Standard) 178BHSK: bit.ly/3DbQ6Tj
    → Catalina 184BHS: bit.ly/2YIGG2Q

*Hey everyone!! Ember is ALREADY listening! They’re now offering a sofa option in the slide I date as of only a dinette!! This will do wonders for tv watching and I believe it includes a floating dinofa table as well you could use inside or outside! Can’t wait to see what they come up with next*!!*

A sofa in the slide would be my preferred way to outfit this one. As it is a fairly deep slide, I would love to see how the sofa looks with the wheel well to contend with. Will the sofa be brought forward and have a storage space behind? Set back with an L- lounge over the wheel well? Will it just a be deeper seated sofa? I need answers josh!!! Hahaha!

I review alot of the overland capable vehicles and trailers. 75% of my content features the tough trailers that US trailers normally cannot compete with...until now. When I saw the trailing arm independent suspension I knew I was seeing something special.
I really want to do a field test review of this trailer. I'm getting the new tundra and I think this would be the perfect overland camper for a family like mine. There's 5 of us lol. A rooftop tent won't cut it and my wife "needs" a shower and toilet. 😄

A couple years ago I went through a phase of watching videos of the Australian trailers meant for off-road. They are magnificent beasts! A lot of Americans in the Comments wanted to know if they could import one. I think Ember has a niche to fill.

I am really interested to see how well this thing holds up over some rumble and swaying. Like you, truck tent is a non-starter with the wife for the same reasons. Looks like this model would be pushing tongue weight really close to the edge with my diesel GMC Canyon though. Especially with the needed WDH on there and the thing still isn't loaded. Hopefully the smaller 170BH doesn't have the monstrous 680lb hitch weight.

Probably the "most perfect" camper/layout I've seen. Durable long lasting. I love the back storage door and trailer hitch on back. One kayak inside and trailer hitch for bikes. It'd be nice to get two kayaks in there. I'm not sure of the storage up against the wall across from the toilet as it looks like a knee knocker. Small kitchen with huge fridge is perfect as we do the vast majority of our cooking outside but the fridge is a must. My only question is the weight limit on the beds?

Absolutely beautiful. I really wonder if the acrylic windows will help reduce condensation forming? I raise my hand and say YES PLEASE for removable bunks……who does that currently!?!?! NO ONE but I know a half dozen people on the Geo Pro boards that have removed one or more of their bunks to make space.
You know….anyone that tows a single axle off grid equipped camper is a minimalist packer anyway. So as I sit here thinking about my own packing trends…..I could make it work. Definitely worth the lack of storage given the added features.
I still can’t stand the 12v TV. I think the lack of use (since you cant see it while on the Murphy bed and you won’t be able to swivel it if you have two people sitting on the Murphy bed) and how big it is….just bothers me personally.
The only other sad point is the excessive tongue wt. 680 lbs Tongue WT moves it into a true 1/2 ton spec even though the GVWR is safely within the Tacoma/Colorado/Ranger small truck arena. Can I just mention how nice it will be towing though with a large SUV and opening up the back hatch or dropping the tail gate and NOT banging into a Jack (I love their Jack system)!!!!!
Beautiful, absolutely beautiful camper…….and now I want one!

    • @JoshtheRVNerd
      @JoshtheRVNerd  2 роки тому +1

Yeah those windows will reduce condensation a lot but PLEASE understand if that's a problem you're having, then changing the windows isn't the solution -- a dehumidifier is. The composition of the windows doesn't actually remove that moisture content from the air

I agree totally with an optional camp kitchen (I'd never use it) and bunks that could be removed to make an office space. And I welcome extra weight if it comes from extras like better windows, suspension, tank warmers, etc. BUT, the cargo capacity is awful! It'd be so much better if that could be boosted along with fold-up/down extra counter space.

First thought I had immediately after seeing the bunks: "I'd remove them to gain extra space for bicycles/gear AND cargo weight capacity." The option to order one without them would be a game changer for us (first time buyers in our 30s w/no kids or guests). Actually, having the RESIDENTIAL QUEEN bed space already built-in kind of pushes this to our top spot since my husband and I are super tall. Also, these things are expensive anyway so being able to customize the layout/floorplan right from the factory even MORE (even if we had to pay a little bit more and wait a little bit longer) would be super awesome. For example, we work from home so having enough power to use both of our laptops for prolonged amount of time (longer the better lol) would be AWESOME and the ability to switch out the toilet for a composting/cassette style and just use ALL the tanks as gray tanks. (I know you can rig it yourself, but not everyone has the time and/or willingness to DIY these things). I'm so excited to keep an eye on Ember developments! :) (((I hope the "remote control" is referring to your phone! It would be awesome to control the awning and lights via our phones.))

I too, like the idea of office space in the back, but I'd like to keep the option to use the bunks, even if I had to move them manually (or kept them where the camp kitchen is located with inside access. Perhaps they could figure out a way to flip the top bunk, and use the board for the bottom bunk as a desk (dual purpose). I admit that I would use the office area more often, but would like to have the bunks as a convertible option for visitors.

  • @TonyYarusso

I REALLY love the idea of being able to delete the camp kitchen and fold the bunks out of the way completely for a big cargo area. (Note: I may *occasionally* have a human guest, but not *usually*, so I don't want to remove both bunks entirely, but have them "out of the way" most of the time but at least one available in a pinch. Perhaps somewhat oddly, if going to only one of them I'd rather keep a top bunk, since it's easier for a human to climb into something high than a dog, and then I could still keep the dog crates at the floor level.) You'd probably need to either make them hinge on opposite walls to accommodate double-over-double, or make one of them a single. If you do that, please ALSO make the access door BIGGER. I want it BOTH taller and wider than what we see here. I'm looking at toy haulers for non-motorized stuff like (BIG!) dog crates and dogsleds, and they'd work, but have some other awkward compromises. Dogsleds don't fold at all, and are a bit bigger in profile than kayaks, so aren't quite going to work in setups designed just for kayaks in mind, but I don't actually need ATV/motorcycle weight capacity either - just bulky space. I have Alaskan Malamutes - while they could roam MOST of the time, the desire to have the OPTION to crate them if necessary and the size of crate they require is the #1 limiting factor in what size and floorplan of trailer I can consider, and it's been super awkward finding something that works for that without going much larger than I actually want. My most likely reason to buy a bunkhouse would be to modify the bunk space into dog crating area, so if you make that easy from the factory AND make it possible to open a nice wide and tall door from the back to slide a dogsled in, that'd be frickin' amazing. I definitely want to know the exact dimensions of the opening of that rear access door. I suspect that door is still a bit too small for my needs currently, but if you ditch the camp kitchen it would be possible to make something that would work for me.
Now, with respect to the camp kitchen, here's what you do: Keep the baggage door, but have it go to nowhere. The reason is with the "drawbridge" shelf style, even if I'm STORING a griddle somewhere else, I can still flip that door down and USE a griddle in that spot! Easy peasy best of both worlds! You could also keep a mini-pocket beyond the door that's only like 3 inches deep that could just hold a little utensil hanger, frying pan, and some other knick-knacks without stealing as much interior space as the full-depth thing does.

The No-Bo makes (or made) a real basic toy-hauler in both single and double axle versions. It has "Beast Mode" suspension that's axle-less, trailing-arm suspension, like in the Ember in the video.
I think InTech Flyer Pursue has barn doors in the back, and no rear-door ramp option, but it's got a big, wide-open cabin. Their next step up is the Flyer Explore, which is made to be a toy hauler, and is about a foot taller, so you can stand in it and haul 'most any toy they make. I just don't like the height for hauling behind my Tacoma. Oh, it'll handle it all right. I got the tranny cooler, so I'll be able to drag one at highway speeds. But that big wall I'd be pulling behind me would be a real gas guzzle.
Just out of curiosity, I looked at the height, width and length of the Pursue cabin, and it can hold a small 4-wheeler (without roll-cage), 3-wheeler, micro-snowmobile or about any dirt bike from a 250 cc on down. A lot of folks would love to be able to roll their e-bikes (a very sensible application of EV tech, unlike what Detroit and Tesla are selling).
Me, personally, I'm just going to get a basic bed on wheels micro camper. After a lifetime of tent camping, just any kind of hard walls and air conditioner is the height of luxury and convenience. I've put down a deposit on a Runaway Venturist. Even a minimalist teardrop/squaredrop is a huge game changer for me.
The bad thing about tent camping is when you're only staying one night. Trips you'd rather spread over 2 or 3 easy days than one marathon. Not really breaking out all your gear until the end of the long trip, Setting up and tearing down a tent used to be part of the fun. But in my 50's, it just kept getting harder and harder for me (knee injuries). And if I drank any beer before bed, calls of nature were WAY too hard.

This is very close to the RV we have been looking for that I can actually pull with my existing truck except for 3 things: Really need some kitchen counter space - maybe a flip up extension; definately need removable bunk beds because of lack of interior space for our needs; really need a bigger gray water tank with a 55 gal fresh water tank - like a 45 gallon gray water tank. I would be interested in a longer model with dual axle tires with more interior space for bigger kitchen counter and some more kitchen storage. Really need to come up with something better for TV viewing. Love everything else about this and so glad to see new startup company that listens to customers with great build and quality.

Josh, great job on reviewing the Ember! I totally agree, I would NOT want the outside kitchen nor the bunk beds. Not enough storage outside and by NOT having that outdoor kitchen and bunks what an excellent storage space it would be. It needs more counter space for certain (a counter extender minimum). Also needs towel rods in the bathroom. The build quality and a heavy duty independent rear are such WELCOME features such as being able to upgrade the solar. I love the Ember!

  • @SamuelJMartinIII
    @SamuelJMartinIII 2 роки тому +9

14:00 personally I don’t like round sinks, & the lack of any counter space is an issue (a slide out counter just below the cooktop & above the top drawer would be an good idea; as it’s better than a flip up extension that blocks the main entry door); although other models I’m sure don’t have the same constraints & can provide more counter space (as I don’t need/want bunks which also takes up a lot of kitchen space in conjunction with the true queen bed). = as you touched on at 14:18 + 14:40 if they had a square or rectangular sink, the sink cover could be used as a side splash (I’d go for a wood cutting board sink cover so it can be used for multiple purposes, or at least a rolling drain cover)

    I want this very badly.
My improvements would be switching the black and grey tank capacities, a snap-on counter extension/cutting board/magnetic backsplash, and a giant locker in the back with just the upper bunk.
Nevertheless I really really want this.

Josh, you lost me with the residential mattress comment. Anybody can get an impossible to make east west bed and dinette floorplan🤮 The Murphy bed helps make this trailer kinda special! I love the fiberglass roof, the suspension, the solar and the 55 gallons of fresh water storage👍 But as you mentioned, the TV position pretty much sucks, I really wish it had an attached ladder and if you have enough people to fill all of those beds, I have no idea where you would store enough food, utensils and clothes😬

Making the camp kitchen optional and having a way to cleanly remove the bunks without damaging the walls would be great. I'm thinking like having the option to leave the bottom one at home to get extra storage while still having the upper bunk for the kid, and also being able to leave both at home and have a garage/office space. If they came up with a way to remove/fold them out of the way "in the field" even better, but having to make the choice on a trip by trip basis would be almost as good.

Remember if you make it really light it will not be really sturdy. If they make it solid and sturdy to handle offroad it will not be the lightest camper. If you are towing offroad you want more than 10% of the weight on your vehicle so you can keep traction otherwise the trailer is to heavy of a tow and you spinout. If you are driving gravel roads the weight percentage is not as much a deal but if you go into muddy trails the trailer will bog you down if you do not have enough weight forward for the truck to carry and that weight reduces payload.

Really impressive! Quality looks fantastic. Does the skylight have a screen? Would like to see a slide awning. They took the bungee cords off the upper shelves, I would prefer the cords. Stove definitely needs a side splash guard and a side hinged shelve for more counter space would be great since it’s so small. Maybe a slot for the kitchen sink cover, there’s nowhere to put it. There really is very little kitchen storage, in fact inside storage is it’s weakness. The TV needs to move up a little bit so cords don’t show so much. Bathroom is fantastic! I agree, at the least add another hook. None of these nit picking things are dealbreakers. I think it’s a very cool camper! It’s definitely pricey but no shocker there considering the quality. Also, get rid of those crappy locks on outside storage and replace will full compression doors & locks. All those compartments will get full of dust. I would take out the bottom bunk for more storage. No camp kitchen, full slide in that space and a 12v plug for a fridge or just storage. Under mount metal bathroom sink. Josh: The Ember Overland 191MDB seems to be a niche trailer for someone with deep pockets. At the present price point, in my opinion, Ember is marketing to a very limited market base. As a new name in the RV world, Ember could be a leader, if not the only mainstream manufacture, offering total customer specialization making everything inside the trailer box a customer selected option. Starting with a basic “box” then the customer can option in, cabinet, microwave, convection micro wave. Option in or out the outside kitchen. As to the bunkroom area: option in no bunks or give buyers an option to choose an office or storage area, or choose single bunks or double bunks that attach to vertical attachment/hanging system on each sidewall so the bunks can be added or remove as wanted. If the bunks aren’t able to be optioned, then provide hard point attachment points so storage totes can go into them and be secured in transit. Think of it as marketing “Ember trailers. We build quality trailers the way YOU want your trailer.” Respectfully, WS

I really like that business model, but I wonder if a company can make enough money doing so much customization. Then again, they might sell a huge number of the "basic box" models to those who want to do their own customization. There are a lot of people buying basic cargo trailers and converting them. No one is building cargo trailers with the frame/suspension/walls/roof/floor quality that Ember seems to be going for. Maybe could make their volume on the basic box and margins on the add ons.

I find this to be an interesting trailer as it has some of the features that I have been interested in for some time. I like the independent suspension, the large outdoor kitchen and the overall layout in general.
I am curious if the reduced interior stove would have enough space to hold my 10" cast iron skillet without being too close to the wall and causing heat damage? That is hard to tell via video. I also prefer a propane oven with the stove for when I am not connected to park utilities.
I would also prefer more exterior storage up front as that is where I generally store the outdoor chairs, the barbecue stuff, and the weight distributing hitch equipment while camping.
Not much use for having a TV position that can not be viewed from the couch.
The acrylic windows are great for insulation, reduced noise level, and letting in a lot of light, but they are fragile and easily scratched. ( I know because my current RV has one). It will be interesting to see how these windows last long term.

Yo, Ember RV, this is an incredible start, completely impressed with this. Please, please though, don't get arrogant early, stay open minded. Listen to Josh, he knows what he's talking about. As someone who owns a mid-size bunk house, and works remotely, and wants to work while I'm camping more, Josh is DEAD ON with the suggestion for bunk modularity. Hell, even if you can't pull off a fold away system with bunks, build this floor plan without the camp kitchen (that can still be accomplished with quick connect) and make that area convertible for other reasons, with a focus on a flip-down desktop to create a simple office space. Regarding storage, since you can stand on the battery box (fantastic), what about adding a storage box on the roof? Possibly shorten the solar window thing, or option eliminating it (the roof window is nice, more storage would be better) in favor of one larger storage box. Final comment: Ember clearly has an upper level product here; for the love of Pete, get rid of the crappy same old outside compartment locks, they are garbage. First thing I upgraded on my own rig. Been looking at the smaller bunkhouse campers for a while and was thinking of "settling" for a GeoPro as that was the closest my wife and I could find to what we wanted. Ember with the true queen murphy bed kind of just blew everyone else out of the water. I won't be buying for a couple years so competitors can catch up but that queen bed + bunkhouse is exactly what my family needs.
My recommendation on the "RV Office" idea would be to delete the camp kitchen entirely, remove the rear access door, and make the bunks stowable (ratchet to the ceiling maybe?). Personally I'd also like a network jack so that I can hard-wire the camper as well but that may just be me. If they deleted the bunks completely then I'd argue that the TV should go over there on a swivel arm of some sort so that the couch would be more useful. Maybe even extend the kitchen a foot or two to get some extra counter space as not as much space is needed for an office.

To start with, WOW. This thing just jumped to my top 2 list. I love everything about it. Though it would be cool if they offered options with removable bunks to make different use of the area.
I personally like the bunks and the camp kitchen. The optional griddle is nice. Having the flexibility of moving the ladder around is a great idea. Also having the extra space to add more batteries is a plus. So you can upgrade the solar system if you want too.
The true queen is great to see. Even though it doesn't have a lot of storage, they make great use of the storage they have. To get more counter space for prep, they could add one of those fold down counter extensions. I would like to see under the sink that shelf fixed with an opening so you could put a trash can under there. It looked to have the room the shelf just needs to be changed some. A splash guard would be an easy thing to do.
The two way shades on all the windows is a good thing to have. Having the windows open is always a benefit.
The setup in the bathroom checks all the boxes, but I would like to see a shub as an option.
I didn't notice one is there a tv bracket outside? Maybe a rear hitch for a rack to have more outside storage.
But none of these small things would be a deterrent, it is great seeing something different in the camper sceen. Looking forward to seeing the different setups. Awesome job as always Josh. That's one sweet camper.

I think it is wonderful to see a new dealership with innovative ideas AND the willingness to listen to customer/dealer feedback. I think that if Ember develops different floorplan options for this model, they will be quite successful! They have nailed the chassis and suspension, have a number of special added touches as standard features, and have created a camper that is built to last. All I think they really need to do is expand the flexibilty of their options, allowing people to make this camper fit their needs, whether it be bunks, an outdoor kitchen, an office space, extra cargo room with a bigger rear door, a changing room, etc. Making the rear area a flex space that buyers could choose options for would make this a winner for everyone! The majority of the work regarding changes shouldn't be too difficult to modify! Certainly not as difficult as adding length for a bigger kitchen space or increasing cargo capacity. I absolutely love this unit and can't wait to see the smaller ones, as that is more of what we are looking for when it comes to weight and price. Great job Ember! Thank you for doing such a wonderful job showing us this new camper, Josh! Congrats on being the first dealership for Ember RVs!

If the bunk area could be in office with some extra kitchen pantry storage and that would be a perfect layout. For the dinette I prefer a dinofa... Assuming the bunk area is my office

Awesome camper! I would agree with placing the inverter controller inside. Also, I feel the solar prep should be moved by the battery disconnect instead of next to the water hookups. Last thing, I wish they would've kept the cords in the shelves over the bed like they had when you first reviewed them. Great to see y'all finally get some of these great looking campers!

Don't need the bunks, but I would LOVE to be able to put dog crates & all the leashes, bowls, blankets, & all the other doggie stuff in that space. I bought my 1st camper because of traveling to shows with my dogs. I don't show any longer but always take them camping with me. Many people camp with pets & if an RV company would do a little research into what dog owners need/want in an RV design, that'd be so appreciated!

They have packed an amazing amount of functionality into such a small trailer. I bet the two "axle", longer, heavier trailer will be something special. That will be, as you say, the "live off the grid away from the government camper". We live and boondock fulltime in a 5th wheel with 600AH of lithium and 1,200W of solar. We don't even bother to carry a power cord anymore. Even with this setup, we haven't found a way to get away from the government. :-)
If the tanks have 12v heating and all the plumbing is enclosed in areas where heat is ducted to, then this will be a real four season trailer. There a a lot of other comments here saying the same thing, but I'll say it again. To be the almost perfect trailer for a couple, you would want a larger dual "axle" trailer with a queen size bed in the north/south orientation. Then remove the bunk beds and use that space to give more room for the kitchen cooktop, counter space, and a small pantry. I still think manufacturers should build trailers with an option to have no dinette so the user can fill that area to fit their specific needs. Someone may fill the space with foldable chairs and tables that can also be used outside, or maybe recliners, or maybe more room for pets, etc., etc. A fixed in place dinette has only one use and is more difficult to repair as it wears out over the years. At least this dinette looks like it could be easily removed. I'm also curious to learn more about the specs on the Curt suspension, hubs, wheels and tires. Overall, they are hitting it out of the ballpark with this first model.

Another thought for the Li batteries. Add a "long extended three season" option by offering the Battle Borns with the optional internal heated battery. It will allow operation to a battery internal 0 degrees F. Make the battery box insulated to help with road heat and extreme cold temps. A 120 receptacle in the box for the help of a 60 watt trouble light if nothing else. LOVE this trailer!!!

First: an amazing new camper from a promising new company. What a great build with awesome features.
Critically: why is this designed in a way that prevents the installation of almost all current WDH/Sway Bar set ups? That seems, well, downright dangerous. I'm curious if Ember has a response to this. With such a heavy tongue weight a WDH is almost a necessity. Ember, what say you?

So many things here... First off, I do love that this model has a rectangular shower pan and not a radius, but still maintains good space in the bathroom, for such a small camper. The fact that they didnt forget drawers, holy cow at the big name brand models the have no drawers. The baggage door or cargo door, (whatever you want to call it) on the back is a great thing, but I do agree, some hold down points in that area would be nice. Options for a couch without a dinette and options for the outside kitchen and to delete one or both of the bunks would just take this over the top. This thing really checks a lot of boxes and with some small changes could check a few more for almost anyone looking for a true off grid, off the beaten path, family camper.

Even though this model is too small for my likes, I do love the skylight and yes, I would like the bunks to be removable so I could turn it into storage or have a small desk. Also love the sturdy stairs! Hate the bouncy ones! The noise dampening windows would be wonderful! The safe on the door is a plus for sure. They made use of every available inch, didn't they? I would also prefer no dinette and instead a counter with storage underneath with a couple bar stools for dining. A booth just takes up too much valuable floor space in my opinion. It looks like they went over and above in their first model. It looks built to last for sure. Oh, the attached wheel chocks! Genius!

  • @TonyYarusso
    @TonyYarusso 2 роки тому +4

I still think those wheel chocks are an amazing idea. I might try seeing if something like bicycle handlebar grips could be shoved on the end both for a nicer grip and to make them slightly more visible and less shin-bruising, although it might be tough with the square tubing.
I like this strategy for the roof-access ladder. I want something that is with the trailer in my campsite, not just available when at home, but also want it secured to the trailer so I don't feel like it's going to slip off when on iffy footing in camp. This approach appears to meet those needs just as well as a permanently-mounted one, so that's cool.
The hitch weight on this is definitely a bit of an oof. That bumps this into a different class of tow vehicles than I'm hoping for, much like the problem with tongue-heavy-when-empty small toy haulers I've been looking at. I'll be curious to see what weights come in like for the slideless 190MDB version. (Side note on that: Is it just me, or looking at the floorplan diagram does it look like there could totally be enough room to expand the kitchen a bit wider towards the bed and easily accomodate an oven option on that one? The only thing there is the TV, so you could shove some counter space under that.)
Like everyone else I'm a bit scared to see what the price comes out to be...

I love it! What I think they could possibly offer or look into concerning the bunks... Keep the bottom bed exactly how it is, but get rid of the top bunk and add some more storage space... OR get rid of both bunks to extend the kitchen space. Overall, this camper looks fantastic and I'm excited about it for sure. They did a great job with the tank sizes too! Great video!
