Gilmour perfected the art of intense guitar playing within the scope of the song and without using a shredding style of playing. Richard Wright’s contributions get overlooked also. His keyboards accentuated that guitar solo and allowed it to soar.
I worked Pink Floyd at Yankee and Giants Stadium in July of 94, running a follow spot light at Giants for 2 nights. From their I went to the Winston Farm in Saugerties to start erecting Steel for Woodstock 94...it was a Great Summer of Rock and Roll!
When I saw Pink Floyd perform the Wall in 1980, Gilmour performed this solo on the top of a giant wall built across the LA Sports Arena. The word epic is thrown around all the time. That was truly Epic.
I saw the same concert in 1980, only at Earls Court, London. Loved the way they built up the wall and demolished it at the end, plus the giant pig and teacher puppets hanging over the audience. Also, I think there was a plane that came from the back of the concert hall and crashed into the wall (or did I dream that?).
That song is so emotional , and pulls at my heart strings every time I hear it. Gilmour's performance is just breathtaking , a true genius with the guitar. An interesting fact ...the glitter ball hanging in the air is 6 meters in diameter before unfolding.
OneNote to take in here is that was done in Earl's Court in London which seats almost 20,000 people! They sold that show out 15 nights in a row!! Any song from this concert is at least equal to almost any other groups Grand finale!! For something different and beyond epic you definitely should check out the song "Echoes" Pink Floyd live in Pompeii 1971! You get to see them in an ancient theater that was destroyed by Mount Vesuvius in 79AD, then uncovered about 120 years ago. It shows them in Pompeii Italy playing with no audience with the main four original members post Syd Barrett playing an incredible song when they were in their mid-twenties!! It's the song that started them on the road to who they would become!!
I was at this concert - remember it like it was yesterday - i can’t believe it was 30 years ago !!! Without doubt the greatest concert i have ever been to. Many highlights from it but what was also special , they played the whole of The Darkside of the moon.
Saw this tour at the Vet in Philly in ‘94. The video does no justice to how huge and loud the show was in person. Still the best concert i ever attended in my nearly 40 years of going to shows. Enjoy going down the rabbit hole brother!
I just love this Album, and this track. I was lucky enough to see Pink Floyd perform the wall live at Earl’s Court in 1981, wow this was a strange concert, they played the entire album in full. It was the first time seeing the Floyd, the sound was perfect, but what makes it stand out, they actually built a wall so you never see them on stage altogether, thing came over the top of the wall, through the wall or on top of the wall. People will tell you to watch the pulse video, it is fantastic, but for me there is only 2 live versions that count live8 where Pink Floyd reunited for the first time, or the second version, is when in 2011 David Gilmore reunited for one off when Roger Walters performed his version of the wall at the 02 arena London. This is how I saw this the first time around. Minus the new effects on the wall, magical simply magical. They might not be Davids guitar solo from pulse but how it was and always will be.
As someone with chronic neuromuscular pain, this is the one song that has the most meaning for me. It was written by both Roger Waters and David Gilmour and is based on experiences of Roger, particularly when right before going on to perform one night, a doctor gave him an injection for abdominal pain which later on was diagnoses as hepatitis. If you watch the film "The Wall", it will give a better understanding to both the song and movie. In some ways, just listening to Pink Floyd can be a form of pain relief, which even tonight I'm really needing. Peace out.
great reaction to pink floyd the pulse concert and yes i was there with a million pounds of lighting and effects with the noise level up best live band ever suggestions anything from the pulse concert but if you want to blow your mind high hopes or great gig in the sky and the closer run like hell
Roger Waters wrote all the lyrics to The Wall, in this concert he was already out of the band Hey You next! It’s another truly great song from The Wall 🔥
This band is amazing in concert. They take it to whole other level. Incredible creations that offer an fantastic experience each time. Appreciations for sharing this one.
Saw them at the Syracuse Carrier Dome for their 94 concert tour, complete with disco ball and pyrotechnics that you could feel halfway down the side of the entire Stadium to where we were sitting in the nosebleed section. Like it was such a wave of heat that it moved your hair in a breeze. That concert was flawlessly performed and just amazing.
Thank you Brother, I really enjoyed this! 👌 I have become so disillusioned with most of those UA-camrs who do first time reactions to music, that I almost didn't click on this, now I am happy I did.! Not only did you actually listen to the music instead of just watching a video with flashing lights, you HEARD the music. This is a rare thing nowadays. I am thrilled that you heard the bass and mentioned it and the words - 'I have become comfortably numb' - you described that so well. Nowadays I change those lyrics to 'WE have become...' I think most folks will understand that. I will stay subscribed to your channel until the recommendations of your patrons start dragging you down into the abyss of 'noise pollution' vs music, which seems inevitable. My best regards to you and good luck for the future! 👍🎶🎶
My mind is blown, no matter how many times I watch that! Absolutely incredible. I would recommend "High Hopes" from the same concert next, with a different kind of guitar solo.
Of course you would expect it to be damned good 233,000 watts of power and $98,000,000 dollars of sound and light equipment and the priceless bit the skills of Pink Floyd to make it all worth while. You don’t watch or listen to Pink Floyd you experience them.
I saw this show in DC at RFK stadium. We were a tad "buzzed" . Lol. After the jellyfish drop, show ended. Took us 2 hours to find the van...bwahaha. Best I've ever been to. And I've been to ALOT. Spectrum from The Grateful Dead to Metal to Oink. This was the best thing I ever attended to this day! ☘️🇺🇲
I was at the DC performance of this as well. Totally blew me away. Pink Floyd and David Gilmour’s solos are beyond words. This was a mind blowing experience. It has to be experienced to believe.
The story I’m most comfortable with is that “The Wall” is the story of the fictional young lad Pink, who wants to grow up and become a rock star. He achieves his dream, but finds in the process he’s walled himself off from everyone who cared about him (hence the album title.) In his loneliness and pain, he turns to drugs. As the song starts, it’s one night before a show, and Pink is too stoned to perform. A doctor is called, and the song is the conversation between this rando local doctor, and Pink. The doctor gives Pink a sober-up drug cocktail, and the second guitar solo is Pink, facing his loneliness, his self-loathing, his hatred of his life, and David Gilmour makes us feel it all. I had the pleasure of seeing this show live, and it was even better than it looks, if you can believe it. You can pick any song you like from the PULSE Concert and trust that that sound is perfect, and the visuals will entertain your viewers. Suggestions would include “Wish You Were Here”, about the band’s missing founder Syd Barrett, or “Money”, or the ethereal “Coming Back To Life”, or the masterful guitar work of “Sorrow”. Or if you want a better idea of what it was like to actually be there, react to the PULSE version of the eerie “One Of These Days”.
Gilmore, Santana, G Moore, Jimmy Page, Buckingham and a couple more are my all time favorites. Not necessarily in that order and I know I’m forgetting a couple obvious favorites but I’m approaching 75 so ….
Yessssss. One of my three faves by PF. The other two are Young Lust and Another Brick In The Wall (of course). Great review (of course). You know what’s the opposite of being comfortably numb? Being rocked by KISS! Let’s go! ‘Sweet Pain’ and ‘Rock Bottom’ are a good place to continue. ‘Cause they’re Hotter Than Hell, Larger Than Life and I Love It Loud, Forever. I’ll never say I’ve Had Enough because anytime is Kissin’ Time when you’re an All American Man, Rockin’ In The USA. So let’s party everyday and Ugh! All Night!
I was there! The actual experience was quite different to that captured on the video of the event as the band were like “ship smoke on the horizon” and it was a combination of the fabulous music from an incredible set of musicians and the state-of-the-art (for the time) visuals that made it truly mind blowing. I also recall that it took 4 hours to cross London from the coach station to Earl’s Court due to the number of open pubs en route. Those were the days…
@@setonhillstudios Seeing Iron Maiden and Gary Moore live a couple of times as a teenager in the 1980s were probably more significant events for me as they happened first but seeing Pink Floyd on their last ever (and arguably greatest) tour is something that I feel truly lucky and honoured to have experienced and it does give me a warm glow every time I see somebody reacting to a performance from “Pulse” on YT.
Pink Anderson Floyd Council Two great Blues musicians the band was named after. The only band I Have everything they ever recorded on vinyl. As well most on 8-tracks. Many consider this to be the finest live rock guitar solo ever captured on video. It's certainly in the top few. And oh yeah; to me he looks like he could be a farmer😂
You've gotta watch Keep Talking from this show to see some of the best use of the Talk Box I've ever seen. Make sure it's the re-edited and remastered version from 2019. Love your reactions, bro!
To really get the whole vibe of this song, or any song from "The Wall" and to truly understand the meanings behind them, you need to listen to the whole album in order, and then watch the movie.....then all these songs will have a new meaning...a new feeling to them......Great, Awesome.....but sooooo depressing. Good music moves you......this one will shake you to your core.
That was a cool reaction, glad you liked it. Probably Pink Floyd's greatest live performance of Comfortably Numb. You will have enjoyed the beautiful harmonies the girls were adding...now go and react to "The Great Gig in the Sky" from the same 1994 Pulse Concert. That oughta blow you away with sheer musical and vocal talent. SUBSCRIBED to see your reaction to it :)
Hi. This is a strong suggestion: you should always listen to Pink Floyd with headphones! It's a different experience. Cheers. Oh, plus, most of the British bands from the 60's and 70/80's also. They made full use of the different channels etc that you only hear using headphones.
Thanks for the tip! I am listening through 2 pairs of studio grade monitors that we use for mixing. Covers the whole frequency spectrum nicely! Have a great one and thanks for watching!
I've heard more technically impressive solos--Eddie Van Halen's Eruption is an easy example--but I'm not sure I've ever heard one that is more musical. I have literally never listened to this version and not found my head bobbing along with the riff. It's an amazing job with great variation while still staying grounded in the song. Superb.
You need to understand something about Pink Floyd. There are three distinct versions of the band : the Syd Barret era; the Roger Waters era & the David Gilmour era ! What you are listening to right now is the David Gilmour three man band with Nick Mason & Richard Wright. The first era was Syd Barrett - lead guitar, songwriter & singer , Roger Waters , bass guitar & sometime song writer, Richard Wright keyboards & Nick Mason drummer. The second era was Roger Waters bass guitar & songwriter & arranger & vocals, David Gilmour lead guitar , vocals & sometime song writer, Richard Wright keyboards & Nick Mason drummer. The third era was David Gilmour lead guitar , songwriter, & producer, Richard Wright keyboards & Nick Mason drums. You are hearing the third , three-man band right now. Just thought you should know !

The music of my teens. Still have the vinyl LPs in my room. But I wonder... where are the great bands nowadays? Hiding? Do they exist?
You've gotta watch Keep Talking from this show to see some of the best use of the Talk Box I've ever seen. Make sure it's the re-edited and remastered version from 2019. Love your reactions, bro!
Really appreciate the recommendation and the kind words! 🤙🏻
This is why people call David Gilmour gods personal guitarist.
Great review.
Try out REO Speedwagon. GOLDEN COUNTRY -Live
Second! 🙋🏻♀️
And it's my favourite PF song!
great reaction, theres lots more amazing songs for you to try, id recommend "COMING BACK TO LIFE" from
the same pulse concert
If you like this wait until you see High Hopes, Coming Back To Life, Sorrow. 😊. Be prepared.
Floydgasm in coming😅
If you like guitarists check out Buckethead / Soothsayer emotional version Live
It’s on the channel! 🤘🏻
David Gilmour: black t-shirt and jeans, casually ripping your face off.
😂🤣😂
Really appreciate the insight! Definitely looking to dig more into their catalogue! Thanks for watching!
Check out Hey You
David Gilmour does not simply play the guitar. He tells a story with it. His solos don't have notes. They have lyrics.
