All the information I was looking for as a 24 y/o who wants to get into skating and more that i didn't know that I needed was in this video. Great video and thank you!
Good points, with one exception: I have a 28.5" cruiser with 70 mm wheels and 150mm Paris v3 trucks, which I use on 25+mile/4+hour rides and it is super comfortable for me. It has a nice, deep concave, grabs my feet like a shoe, and I have all the maneuverability/kicktail advantages you mentioned. I was going to buy a longboard for cruising, however, eventually I realized that I have zero incentive at this point. (Unfortunately I am old and stiff for tricks.) Cruisers can be comfortable as well if you choose the right setup.
This is honestly the most useful video I’ve come across so far! As a complete (and OLD) beginner it answered so many questions like what constitutes a long ride and what specifically makes one more useful in different situations. Thanks dude, keep up the videos pls!!
i wish i saw this ages ago now this is one of the actual videos that just tells you which one is better rather than them going on a giant skateboard ride and at the end being like ye its good
i’m super torn between a cruiser and a longboard. wish i could have both. might have to get the longboard though, longer commutes are the main reason i even want to ride around
if you go too fast on a penny board its so much easier to crash. also not enough space to place your feet.--- I started with a penny board and switched to a long board its just so much more comfortable for me- also didn't know there were a few different types of cruisers till I stared riding.
The cruiser isn’t the #1 easiest, but I think with enough practice you should be okay, as long as you don’t give up. Many people have started with cruiser boards!
Go for the longboard. I skate a popsicle board and when I stepped on a longboard, holy shit did it feel so good. It's wider and it's more stable than a skateboard. I'm not talking about little stability improvement, I mean it won't tilt easily like on a cruiser board and skateboard, longboards are harder to turn ( not difficult, you just have to put more weight when turning). Plus gliding on a longboard is so satisfying, it feels like it could go on forever with just one push. Just get a longboard, I personally got a popsicle board since I'm more into skate tricks, but I'm planning on getting a longboard. Tricks on a longboard are cool too
With a cruiser you get the best of both a skateboard and longboard you can do tricks like a ollie or kick flip and you get the cruisability of the longboard
this is oddly wholesome but damn man I’ve been trying to pick and you made a great video I made up my mind! You deserve my sub bro your vids are great keep it going.
Now im stuck between the two of them. Because I really would like to be stable at higher speeds, but also -- I live in the city and I do be carrying stuff all the time.
I mean, there are definitely exceptions...like not every rule I talked about applies to every board. For example, a cruiser board with longer trucks, or wheels that are 72mm or wider can be quite stable actually, and there are some longboards that you may find surprisingly light! Just do your research and try to buy the best quality board you can afford because quality really does pay off in the end!
Got my cruiser board a few weeks ago as my first skateboard at 21 year old. I love it, but I am thinking about getting longboard soon. I saw some nice ones at my local shop. Thanks for the info!

Bigger board can be much harder for a beginner to get away from they can't just 'step of' like say a penny board just like boards with concave and kicks they can get trapped on board and more likely to go feet up and/or fall on the board both which are far worse than losing balance.
Seriously thank you I was able to return my cruiser board for a longboard immediately after seeing this. Thank God I saw it so now I have the perfect introduction to skating I get to just cruise around for long periods of time comfortably so thank you!!

Hi, love this video. I want to get a cruiser board to get around campus since my classes are pretty far from each other. Any recommendation on what brand to go for or does it matte what brand? I just want something that will last me a long time and is reliable.
Are slides easier on long boards? I see most people can slide on cruisers as well but usually stick to doing turns by pushing down on the tail and just flick turn..
Could be absolutely yes if it is set up for it. You could look up if someone has tried slidier wheels on your setup to see if its worth doing or if its too jenky bc too small for you. Otherwise you should check out freeride/downhill boards (also for instance Landyachtz can show you their boards tagged as slidey). Generally more length gives you more leverage, dropped deck/rocker helps lock your feet in, some longboards will come with wide grippy wheels that might still slide a bit depending on the boards behavior (or may be a good candidate for wheel swap), and some can come out of the box with wheels meant for sliding (like the Landyachtz Switchblade, has everything I described, sounds dope for learning to slide). You want a stiffer deck if you want to push speed and have more stable slides. I do read about people learning on smaller boards, but its just making it more difficult, and starting on a proper slidey boy sounds more confidence inspiring.
So you know landyatch’s atv series boards? Would those be like a mix between a long board and a cruiser board? Because that’s what I’m trying to look for. A board that is maybe around 32 inches and no more than 35 inches so I can put it on my backpack but also has good stability to it. I saw there were also the tugboat and dugout boards which seems to be bigger versions of the dingy?
Hey! So if you are looking for the most stability, 32+ inches will probably feel most comfortable for an in-between feel. It obviously won’t replace a longboards feel, but makes up for it with portability. Just be aware that my dinghy is already pretty large on my backpack so just be aware that it may hang below your backpack and may be a little heavy. But yeah I’ve heard that tugboats and atvs are great!

Keep up the vids, funny and informative as well
YOU FROM THE ROCK HUH?
What kind of cruiser do you have? Link maybe?
Landyachtz dinghy turbo king. It’s mentioned in the description!
@@OgdenSikel Thank you!
Ok so i just want to skateboard but i don’t want to do tricks so should i get a cruiser?
hey just wanted to ask,
what is the wheel size on your cruiser board?
72mm! They are very wide wheels. Look up hawgs plow kings for more info
where is ways to carry board?
I just kneel down and pull up on the side of my longboard to get a sharp turn plus chicks think it looks cool
Such a informative video :)
Had to buy the atom longboard (again) on Amazon but im getting the Landyacht switchblade when i can and putting shark wheels on it
How is the atom longboard? It’s one of the best sellers on amazon
@@OgdenSikel it has really good bearings for being on the cheaper side but its in between expensive and the super cheap brands. I rate it 7/10
@@OgdenSikel i wanna get shark wheels and maybe a mountain board( its a longboard with big tires, shocks, and even a handbrake )
