Gordonsville is a small charming town in Southern Virginia, about 19 miles from Charlottesville and 65 miles from Richmond. Gordonsville. It may be small in size compared to its sister cities, but it doesn't have any shortage of fun and interesting activities. The downtown is a plethora of shops, galleries, and eateries. Blacksmithing has nearly become a lost art, but hand wrought iron work and custom pieces can still be found at Stokes of England. I was hooked with the elegance and luxury at Posh, so many jewels and accessories that would look great in my closet. Don’t forget to stop at for a sweet treat at Krecek Kakes.
The railroad has played a vital part in the town’s history politically and economically. Due to its proximity to the railroad, The Exchange Hotel was converted into a Civil War hospital. It now serves as a Civil War Museum and is draws a tremendous crowd because it is believed to be haunted.
Gordonsville has also gained notoriety as the Fried Chicken Capital of the world because When passenger trains stopped at the town, the women, who later became known as “chicken vendors,” would balance plates of fried chicken on their heads and serve the passengers by passing the fried chicken to them through open railcar windows. A Fried Chicken Festival is held the third Saturday in May each year
