To anyone who comes to this place: make sure you be mindful of the weather as you can get stranded in this area especially if there has been lots of rain. There have been a few rescues in this area in recent years due to this. Also, make sure you are prepared and being along some basic camping gear. Remember there will be no signal on your cell if you should get yourself injured. A satellite phone will be the only way you will be able to get a call out.

I’ve heard the same. I would love to do this hike but am a little nervous about the surrounding towns, locals, and any other info I should be aware of before hiking through the woods of Virginia without a phone signal 😅.
No one really cares about Virginia, it's just too country and historical. Not full of flashing lights, giant sculptures, cities, bright and exotic flora and fauna.
We have some of these in the area where I live , in the suburbs of Dallas but most people don't know about them ... some are spring-fed from below and some have waterfalls ... and I've seen one that has both . I don't tell people about them because , to me , they are sacred places . Basically they are claypools ... some of the sediment is still a bit of soft clay but usually it's dry like the strata you see here . These places are absolutely magical and it's not a good idea for everyone to know about them if they don't absolutely respect Mother Nature .
relatively easy, just be aware and remember the hike in, take a photo of the trail map at the trailhead. My biggest piece of advice is go early, not late. There have been a lot of search and rescues because people got lost late at night and had to spend a night in the forest. I wouldn't start later than 3pm
