Thanks for the helpful tutorial - very clear and to the point! I'm having vacuum issues with my '05 Sierra 6.0 and will definitely be trying this next.
Awesome content Looks like Buick century I have with the issue. I will definitely be trying this tomorrow. She runs lean, i can't find the vacuum leak anywhere, this is a step up. THANK YOU!!🙌🏼
hi great vid, i need to find out if i have leaks in my fuel lines and my air lines, its ford transit custom, can you help me, where do i put the smoke machine pipe into? thanks
Running a smoke test on a 08 Impala (3.5)..... the only place I'm seeing loads of smoke coming out is at the breather.....is that indicative of a bad MAF?
Thanks for watching. When you put smokin through a vacuum port it should come out the breather where the air filter is hooked up. It should not leak out anywhere else like around mass airflow sensor‘s or any other vacuum ports that are currently sealed.
Your suppose to take off the air duct that connects to the throttle body and plug the throttle body then smoke test 💨 if you don’t plug the throttle body then all the smoke will go thru the air filter and out into the atmosphere and will not build up any pressure
So i just dropped around 2k to fix a fuel issue at the dealer. Check engine light back on this time for bank 2 lean. p0174. Car is a 07 Cadillac STS ive replaced the MAF, and the Purge control solenoid as it was allowing vacuum 100% of the time. still throwing a code, i have a smoke machine but need a device that can actuate the valves. what is the most affordable one you would recommend? im looking at the Ancel X7 will this do the trick you think? this will be a one time job so i dont need some big fancy high quality one to last me a life time. just one that will do this 1 job. thanks in advance for the help!
Some basic blue tooth scanners can do it but the only one we know of for sure that's a handheld is the ones from Autel as far as affordable ones. Check the specs of any one you wish to buy before purchase to make sure it will do what you want.
@@lilyell6978 hey I have a Buick Lucerne with the same issues. Slightly different code p0171, bank 1 too lean. A mechanic checked and said everything looks fine and wants to do a smoke test. My pcv valve and hose looks fine, no cracks. Should I just do the smoke test? Seems like an annoying use of $100+ dollars for a mechanic to do just to throw smoke through my intake.
how much does it cost to have a smoke test done? I’ve got a 2012 Town & Country Chrysler it’s got the engine light coming on but it’s they tested it and said it SC needs a smoke test it’s got a small leak vacuum leak how much does it cost to have that done if I take it to the dealer and Chrysler
@@UnderTheHoodShow Can I expand on this please? In order to find rough running Renault (no codes or fault lights on dash) I carried out a smoke test from two points, one from a pipe directly connected to the inlet manifold and after reconnecting this I disconnected the air inlet hose (after the air filter casing) and repeated the test. Both tests showed a high flow leakage on the flowmeter and of course no pressure build up on the machine pressure gauge and not one visible sign of smoke from within the engine bay nor anywhere else at all. On the basis that the smoke had to be damn well going somewhere I took the oil dipstick out and bingo high volume of smoke and likewise out of the oil filler cap as you would expect. There is no oil in the water nor bubbles in the coolant when engine running so I am a little baffled right now. I expected a small amount of smoke but not the whole output. Any thoughts please? p.s. Other thoughts every now ant then the pressure gauge did go high and then drop in an instant. The car is a diesel
Yes, a shop doing the test…. Properly. Finding one is much harder than finding a vacuum leak
Thank you for a very helpful, clearly and calmly presented demonstration video.
Blessings 😊
@@mpdjr77 thanks for watching and commenting. We really appreciate it!

All I got is a dab pen and all day. This is gonna require the squad.
😂😂😂😂😂

Thank you very to the point and will be taking my car for this test to a shop. 😊
Best of luck!

You bet
hi great vid, i need to find out if i have leaks in my fuel lines and my air lines, its ford transit custom, can you help me, where do i put the smoke machine pipe into? thanks
You need to find a vacuum port on the intake manifold. Also close off the throttle body when testing.

Normal smoke comes out from Dipstick when pull it off ?
is it alrigjt to do the test through the air filter housing hose? better said intake hose? will it give the result for whole system?
If you do that it will poor smoke out of the air cleaner assembly so we don’t do that.

I’ve got a P0171 on my ‘03 LeSabre. I cleaned the MAF sensor and cleared codes, will replace PCV valve this week. Maybe try that

Does a throttle body have to be open to do a vacuum test?
It has to be closed
@@UnderTheHoodShow so that means you have to introduce the smoke after the throttle body right?
@@harrycash8713 yes, or put it into the intake hose and open it and see if the throttle body leaks.
And this would work on something like a 69 Corvette, which I'm guessing is a more expansive/larger vacuum system? Thanks!
It should

We see from $120 to 250 depending on shop and area. Ask your local shop to be sure.
Have you got it done?
Where do I plug the smoke cable to?
Any vacuum line on the intake. If no vacuum lines we use the throttle body as a smoke entrance.
@@UnderTheHoodShow is it okay to put it where the air pressure sensor goes? For example the hole where you were showing is the smoke build up at
@@leecountycopwatch81 you can use a sensor hole also.

Where do I get a machine?
Amazon has them
Great video. Is it normal for a little bit of smoke to come out of the oil filler neck cap when smoke testing for vacuum leak?
Yes.

Glad it helped
Thank you so much!!!
hey, how do i get rid of the smoke after so I can start my car after?
Just start it up and it goes right through in about half a second. Doesn’t cause any issues.
@@UnderTheHoodShow cool, thank you :)
Can you give me some idea of how much it cost to have that done at a Chrysler dealer?

Out ?
If it is getting into the PVC system and entering the valve cover. Yes.
