An Italian Tries American Mac & Cheese | Kraft Macaroni and Cheese
My Italian wife, Eva, considers herself to be quite the pasta expert. But it's a lie! Why? Because she has NEVER had macaroni and cheese!
In this video, Eva and I sample three varieties of Kraft mac & cheese. Watch to see what an Italian thinks of this American delicacy!
Please subscribe to our channel and give this video a thumb's up if you enjoyed it!
Ciao for now!
--------
EVA'S PASTA AI QUATTRO FORMAGGI RECIPE
Serves two.
For this recipe, you will need:
- 350g (12oz) penne pasta
- 1/4 cup gorgonzola or blue cheese, chopped into small chunks
- 1/4 cup fontina or sharp cheddar cheese, chopped into small chunks
- 1/4 cup brie cheese, chopped into small chunks
- Grated Parmigiano Reggiano cheese
- 1 cup whole milk
- 2 tbsp butter
- Nutmeg
- Fresh black pepper
- Salt
Bring a large pot of water to boil for the pasta.
Meanwhile, melt the butter in a pan over low heat. Add milk, gorgonzola, fontina, brie, a pinch of grated nutmeg, and black pepper to taste. Stir while the cheese melts.
Generously salt the boiling water and add pasta. While the pasta cooks, allow the melted cheese to simmer for three minutes before turning off the heat. When the pasta is cooked al dente, drain it and add into the sauce. Top generously with grated Parmigiano and stir all together vigorously over medium/high heat. Serve immediately.
Buon appetito!

To her, this series is called "American man tortures Italian woman with food"
I think for her its called.... Why does my husband hate me? lol
Erik Skole I think it’s now remind me why I married you again?
its called "I married an American dude and now he's pimping me on YT" lol
Hahaha!
For a second, when he suggested that her own dish could use garlic, I thought it might turn into, "American man gets stabbed with a fork."

Thank you!
This is accurate.

It doesn't taste the same since they changed the recipe. I will not buy it anymore.
"This box contains happy childhood memories"... Fortunately my childhood contains hundreds of hours of making gnocchi and ravioli from scratch with my Nonna and my great zie!
This is one of the reasons why I LOVE your channel:
You don’t just insult things you don’t like. Plus you don’t insult people who like bad food, you don’t make it personal.
You actually show people how to make REAL food and how simple it can be. Because your spirit is to help people make their lives BETTER by making real food. It’s not about shaming anyone. The love is there. The world needs more such people. Tanto, tanto amore dal Massachusetts!
Grazie mille! 😍😍😍
I wouldn’t hold it against her if she just insulted the Kraft Mac & Cheese, laughed, walked away and ended the video. 😛 It’s not food snobbery - it’s just having the most basic of standards and not wanting to eat powdered chalk-cheese.
Are we watching the same videos? “It’s so bad.” “This is the most disgusting thing I have ever had in my entire life.” What do you _think_ is an insult?
With that said, totally understandable commentary over these abominations, and I’m American. 😂
Eva picks up cheese packet: "is this for humidity?" 🤣
No…it’s for humility.
She asked, " is this for humanity?" Answer: no, unless you are in prison and that's what they serve you for lunch. Top Ramen will be for dinner.
The unseen Angel in all of this is Eva's Mother, just imagine watching those two Cook that would be epic.

to be fair, you can't compare the refined palate of an italian cook vs the non-existant taste buds of a US citizen...most of them are raised on fast food and packaged pre-cooked stuff.
That made me laugh out loud.
@@magnezon1 Speak for yourself! As for "raised on old-world" palate: A dear, late friend of mine--whom was very-much like Eva--was actually 'turned-on" to many American "junk food" items and came to enjoy them. in-fact: It was her that not only taught me how to season food by eye (A special skill in food preparation) but got me to appreciate good kosher [Vienna] beef franks over common "pork & chicken" hot dogs! }:(

Eva is like every Indian Mom who never appreciates processed food. She lets the kid have it, and later shows how same cuisine home cooked can be. She is so Homely India.
So true.
Be careful. I think you mean she is a good house wife or cook?! Homely in America means ugly - she surely isn't
Homely has a huge respect in the eyes of kids whose moms have stressful career....we in india have to find a balance though... coz its walking the US path...
So Indian women are worthy of trust. Italy approves😎😍.
P.s. I'm Italian and I love Indian food.

@@noamto Asiago, mozzarella, parmigiano, emmentaler, fontina. You can use any cheese you want, as long as it melts and it's good quality. I think gorgonzola's flavour is too aggressive for mac and cheese
Eva has consumed powdered cheese from the Blue Box... Now she is an American... 😀💗
That is bad in soooooooooooooo many ways.
In Italy we don't have pre faked powdered cheese in the blue box.

I can't imagine the flavor shock Eva gets eating American "Italian" food. I'm used to all those mac and cheeses growing up, but after eating in Italy, I can see why she reacts the way she does. Their pasta and all their food doesn't make you feel disgusting after eating a bunch of food. It's all so fresh
Mac and Cheese was never meant to be thought of as Italian, I don't know where you got that. Mac and Cheese was invented by a British woman trying to introduce French technique to Britain. It didn't catch on immediately, but when Thomas Jefferson visited France, the French used her book to make things they thought he'd want to eat. He fell in love with Mac and Cheese and evangelized it from there.
My point is, never in the history of this dish has anyone thought of it as Italian for even a split second, other than you. No, I'm not a troll, yes, I'm literally trying to be a dick because I hate that you had such an incorrect belief. I will continue to be a dick to you until the day I die. Screw off, dude!!!
(Seriously, though, what about Mac and Cheese ever seemed Italian to you?)
@Michael Lyndon dude their comment didn't say anything about Mac and cheese. Just because it's on a video about Mac and cheese and you just assume that's what it's about. In reality they were talking about how bad she reacts to America's version of Italian and that they understand why she reacts this way to Mac and cheese. In no way did they say Mac and cheese is Italian.
@@cudabackag Quote:
"

To me, the rest of the comment implies that the food in question was the mac and cheese and that he couldn't imagine her actual experience. That is what I'm referring to.
Also, my comment was kind of meant to halfway be a joke, I'm not really angry, just find it funny to see someone describe it as Italian when I have never heard anyone describe it that way.

@@michaellyndon6982 ,You assume my comment was based solely on this one video. I've watched lots of their videos and my comment was based on her previous reactions as well as this one. I know mac and cheese is not Italian, never has been. But in this video she ate it and hated it. She also ate one that is a version of an Italian dish (Alfredo I think it was), but it's all pre packaged and boxed, something you don't see there. My comment was that we were raised on that stuff, and those pre packaged versions at some time or another, and as kids (most kids and still some adults) we liked it. Way to absolutely fly off the handle though. And thanks for the mac and cheese history lesson, ya weirdo
are you comparing restaurant food to some boxed processed shit? no one is expecting freshness from this they're just looking for speed and convenience. you can find better american food and im sure italy has its own garbage even if their food quality is better overall

She's right. Italian can stay slim because the original pasta is simple.
IDK, ive seen some big Italian dudes...
I've been to Vince, Florence, Tuscany, Rome, Sorrento and on average Italians are fit not really to many over weight. Even fewer seriously obese. Why smaller portion, better quality of food, they're more active and typically don't eat the process junk.
@@nicholaskarako5701 come to South of Italy :D
On my bucket list: Sicily is on there too. When I was in Rome we drove on the narrow windy coastal road around the toe of Italy before we made it to Sorrento. Could not believe how big some of the lemons I saw...Some were the size of grapefruit. Lots of places I would like to see though. Like the town were my great, great grandfather came from which is in the northeast portion of Hungary.
@@Eledaraumar in Naples maybe, or Italian Americans, but here in Europe people tend to be in better shape because the quality of the food is better, people walk to places and take buses or bikes even if they have cars and plenty of money. It's very different than the US, where everything is XL, the quality is considerably lower and they tend to eat more calories than they burn.
PS: UK is also a very fat nation. I'm not counting them when I say "here in Europe" hahaha
"This is the pasta that doesn't make you fat-"

Me: *eats a kilo of that and gets fat anyway*
You're better off eating REAL mac-n'-cheese, anyway. At least you get more nutritionally than with the boxed version, and it tastes better. If you don't want to add pounds, don't eat too much of it. Portion control.
"this is for the humidity?" I cracked but that's pretty accurate. I love this Channel 😍😂
I love how Eve always shows how easy it is to make the same dish from scratch. And often in less time.
The first time I visited Italy was with a tour group. At one place lunch was just plain pasta and olive oil and nothing else that I could see. But it was still better than any pasta I had, outside Italy. That was the last group tour. Now I travel independently to Italy and Google for markets and restaurants that no tourist go to. In fact in Rome, near the Vatican, one Italian lady who spoke English asked me how come I came to that market. I bought kilos of Salami and Sausages at much lower prices than the tourist areas and a hundred times better. So if you only visit the tourist areas, don't judge Italian food by going only there.
I have learned to do the same in any country I am in - the difference is amazing, in both price and quality. It does help to be at least survival level in the local language though and more than survival level is better.
What was the name of the market ?
@@Blusser77 they were very probably referring to the Trionfale neighborhood market, in Andrea Doria street, the biggest and richest in the area. The other possible one is the Prati local market in Cola di Rienzo street
That’s a tourist syndrome. When you go to Italy of course you’re going to think that
Yes, I used to travel a lot, This is how I think no matter where I went
OMG... I can see the soul leaving her as she opened the box of mac and cheese
Besides this show, which is AWESOME, these two could easily be an old time husband and wife comedy duo like Burns&Allen, Lucy&Desi, or Stiller&Meara. They play off each other so well and are each funny in their own way. And between her hair and skin and his eyes and teeth...ay mamma mia!
Eva is such a great teacher of how to find, cook, and enjoy real italian food! Learned so much about real italian food watching you both!
Eva should have her own cooking ch, id love to learn her recipes
Was thinking the same thing.
I'm Italian and the first time I made Mac and Cheese I was in the US, I never had it before but I had an/my idea of how it should taste like so I just started cooking based on my "food experience". Once we ate them all the Americans in the room were very impressed and said they were one of the best Mac and Cheese dishes they ever had! That was because I used all fresh ingredient and not bags or powders or the microwave!
Who would have thought that I would get so much joy out of an Italian individual being absolutely horrified by our pasta. Best thing ever!
I love this channel. I'm Italian-American and I learned how to cook from my grandmother. I strayed and got used to eating things like Mac n Cheese, etc. This channel is getting me back to my roots. A ton of the things that Eva does are exactly the way I was taught (some things are a little different though).

as an American I have to say giggling uncontrollably is the correct response from an adult who has never eaten kraft mac n cheese.
at the same time there is a special place in my heart for it.
My grandmothers and mother were excellent cooks however like many Italian Nonna's spent practically half of their lives in the kitchen frequently discussing what to cook next. Over the years they become experts in their own right. Even better many Nonno had his own field where he grew tomatoes, basil, garlic, onions and ingredients were organic and fresh. Today we don't even have the patience to sit down for a meal. Back then a basic tomato sauce would be left simmering from 7am to noon. A basic dough for pizza would have minimum yeast or use mother dough and take over a day to prepare. They had pride and the time.
TIME. Yes.
