Haven’t experienced having smoke out of my vents but the burnt strong smell I’ve had so many times. And yes it’s because of the oil leaking from the gasket and dripping all over.
Same symptoms, smoke in cabin. Mine was a crushed and punctured EGR hose (exhaust going through cabin filter)
Same issue here, Smoke trough the vents bmw 335i 100k miles, Oil dripping on the downpipe from the valve cover gasket, New ordered

Got it fixed straight away for about 250 with OEM parts.
Common problem with most BMW’s. I replaced the valve cover and gasket on my E60 (M54) a year or so back and it fixed the problem.
True. I had a crack on my valve cover. Got it fixed and the smell it's no longer a problem.
How much was the repair?
Ysl Jay I believe aftermarket valve cover and gasket kits are around $300 or so. Add about 2 hrs labor cost if you aren’t doing it yourself. So maybe around $500 to $600 at a shop.
Seals and gaskets, they eventually will go bad, I took down my oil pan, and the gasket was so brittle it literally crumbled in my hands like toasted bread crumbs😆

-Smoke smell in your car, yes Valve Cover/AND gasket.
-still smell it? Replace old N54 oil fill cap (Where you add oil) with an N55 cap.
-Still smell oil? (Replace the oil filter with correct one, and make sure you have it correctly placed, arrow to arrow.)
-Still smell it? Time to clean the ole metal skid plate where all the old oil has been pooling up under the splash guards. Use brake cleaner and scrub-dub-dub.
-Still smelly? Oil filter housing gasket.
There it is folks, no cool guy posing, no “awesome” thumbnails, just facts. That’s how you fix an oil smell on an N54. And buckle up, $$$ is what you’ll need. Go with amazon tho, cheaper than any parts shop. Buckle up. BMW = Broke Mans Wallet for a reason...🤣
Once you start working on a BEEM, you better become a mechanic reeeeal quick, or you will once your done with it...
After all that, Now who’s ready for the oil pan gasket and turbos?Wheel bearings? Vacuum lines? Charge pipe? 🤔Don’t forget the tune up and Coil packs. Oh and don’t forget the old non conventional Thermostat/Housing and Electronic water pump.
BMWs are not for the faint of heart. But again, neither is a fine woman. They require a steady hand, patience, and dedication.
Its obvious your broke ass don't own a BMW.

@@bmwbmw8466 Where was he trashing BMWs? Fam just spilled out very specific information which relates to the n54/N55 and yes all those parts will break very close to each other. I can confirm this. Seems like you don’t own a BMW or you’d know this as well. Look on any forum, ask anybody with an N54/55. You, are a poser.
happens on the n52, problem is the vcg was already replaced along with the oil filter housing gasket. I just can't drive it hard reallyotherwise it will smoke out the vents and tail pipe
I got my valve cover changed literally like 3 months ago but before that it was just idling really badly and would shut off when I stopped too hard. Now the car runs perfectly fine but the burnt oil smell is happening now.. do I have to get the valve cover replaced again ??

I have a x3 e83 i have oil in charge pipe intake and oil is on the air temperature sender thats screwed into charge pipe also car burning oil
I had that problem before. But after I fixed it I started to hear a squealing noise from my engine bay at low speeds. Could it be oil made it's way to the belt ?
John L replace ur pulleys and belts . Trust me do it now before the belts gets sucked in .

I have the same issue and they also changed 3 belts on mine too and my engine does the squealing noise plus sounds like a diesel . Took it in for heat problem and various other things. They told me and replaced radiator and coolant jug and valve gasket and cover assembly. picked it up from shop and now it's this sound. Wasn't this way when I dropped it off.
I have same problem with my 520i, 5s, 2005 and my 3 mechanic said need to change the engine and i did change but same problem, still too much smoke😓
2013 E70 X5 35i I get this strange smell with 106k miles. It's on and off not all time. I had this today with some light smoke from after driving and then parking. So that's the valve cover gasket? Also the engine lost only 1/4 quart of engine over the last 6k miles so I bet it's little for average oil consumption. Will get this VCG checked for sure.

Cant you just tighten down the bolts on the valve cover, my 2011 535i is leaking but it only has 70 k miles

yes it when your engine heats up the heat will transfer to the heat shield and drip the left over oil but it shouldnt be smoking after all of it is burned
Hello just had my 2009 e90 N52 valve cover replaced at 198,000 miles. It still has a little smoke coming through vents and white smoke through exhaust my mechanic said just drive it for a few days and the oil will burn off and I’ll fix it. Is that true?
yes as there is still left over oil on the heat shield dripping off but it shouldnt smoke after its gone
the dealership said they just switched them and il have to drive it to burn it off. how long would that take? taking it in a couple days to get serviced.

@@nelohd8866 Hey man, first thing go join the FB group n54/55 tuners there are lots of very helpful e9x platform experts on there. I experienced a strong burning oil smell entering the cabin through the vents and some smoke. Oil dripping from the valve cover onto the hot exhaust manifold was the cause of this. I hope this helps!

I have an E63 BMW 520i which has, again, smoke coming out inconsistently. I have a 4 cylinder engine with no turbos. Please help! What could be the issue? The repair costs I hear are a rip off!!!!!
Check the seals of the oil cooler and oilfilterhousing. They also leak often.
In the majority of cases, I kinda doubt what you are suggesting is the culprit. Way more likely the blower motor is about to take a sh*t or some other crappy wiring issue. Especially true for the older models. (I am suffering through an ancient E46, with its horrible cheap wiring and idiotic late 90s designed electronics now). If all seals are in place and functioning, you shouldn't be getting any engine bay pollution into the fresh air intake. Not saying it can't happen, but with other models, I kinda doubt that it will be coming from the engine bay unless the bloody thing is on fire.

Eric Moreno valve cover is on the head.. Under the head (between head and block) is the head gasket.
But to answer your question yes

That's exactly what happened to my 525i and bmw denies liability even when it's under recall got 2 fire hazards.. total loss, bmw offered a voucher for 2500 off a new or used certified pre-owned bmw..my car was paid for and I don't want a new payment I wanted compensation for my loss and they didn't really give a f*#k .....#f*#kbmw
