I dont think you covered the problem I have on my BMW 528iX. Often when braking, there is white smoke from the engine that is visible from outside the car and also fills up inside the car. I have been to a mechanic and he could not find a problem.
you're saying a pain to shift? my 2004 325ci sometimes really doesn't wanna shift, its an automatic and makes a brrr sounds when its unhappy. you got the same issue?
Your car has an oil tray/pan under the vehicle to catch the oil leaks, which is most likely why you don't see any oil leaks on the ground. I have a similar issue with my 528i. The burning smell when I accelerate on the freeway. I recently got a diagnostic, and it turns out, oil IS leaking from the "engine valve cover". Onto the exhaust pipe under the car. Which is why, you might be smelling the burning smell. This is a VERY common issue with BMW. If you want to fix or get rid of the burning smell. You might have a very small oil leak, and should take your car for a diagnostic, and have them check your BMW's "engine valve cover" for any potential leaks. This SHOULD fix your oil leak issue. 🤓🔥✌️ Drive safe -CHRIS*STARR
Thanks for the video! The smell i get through the vents is a bit like the smell you get when you blow a candle off, is that the smell of burning oil? I know that my valve cover is leaking a bit so big chance that that's the problem. Driving a 118i from 2007
I can't seem to find where smelling coming from because i changed everything you mention in the video. Only smell when i park no smell when driving or anything else
Did you ever figure this out ? Mine is similar and it smells like new hairdryer , just had to change my engine at 50k as I believe i had piston ring and potential bore damage so figured it was easier to just change it out and now buying a set of new injectors and just starting to have enough of the car but I’ve put far too much time and effort into it and need to figure out what the fuck this smell is
@@dylanandrews18 Idk if its fixed my problem but i just changed coolant temp sensor recently so my fan won't run at 100% all the time anymore since then i don't smell it anymore. I'm guessing its plastic from fan spinning at 100% for an hour
Well the signs that you mentioned for burning smell inside the cab through the vents exactly sounds like issue with my car , i didn't get very quiet what to do with the valves to prevent it
Thanks for the video. I have an issue it seems as though there is water seeping in on the passanger seat footwell. However I'm not sure where the water is getting in from. I have cleaned out the top water drain in the engine bay but the problem still persists.
Could be the door vapour barrier seal? Check out this video I made a while ago on water leaks, although it’s about an E60, a lot of it will translate to a 1 Series- ua-cam.com/video/QbBPeqKkVmY/v-deo.html
Great post. My bmw car seems to only have that burning smell when I turn on my Air conditioner. There are times when I turn off the AC I can actually see faint white smoke blow off. I’m guessing it’s probably the blower motor?
@@MTechGuy They are dangerous. I have personally known of 3 e53's (2004 3.0, 2005 4.0 and a 2004 4.0 ) to catch fire while driving with electrical problems as the root cause.
I witnessed white smoke at start up right side of engine (passenger side for everyone except Brits) near the fire wall. It goes away within minutes. Because it was almost instantaneous was thinking somewhere in the starting circuit
Most likely valve cover gasket leaking. Take a look at the right side of the engine to see if oil has been leaking from the valve cover. It gets on the exhaust manifold, but normally burns off within a minute or two
@@MTechGuy thanks! It certainly is We cleaned thoroughly and am awaiting to hear back from my friend to see if he still experiences it immediately and where it’s coming from. Planning on replacing valve cover as well as it was recommended once we verify it’s the only issue. Lots of oil in the spark plug tube cylinder 4 and oil present in all but in decreasing amounts at each cylinder from 3-1
That smell is carbon burning, in most cases it’s usually oil leaking from the valve cover gasket onto the exhaust manifold, but could be any of the items in this video
@@MTechGuy it happened twice after I got my car back two weeks ago from the mechanic, after the aux water pump was swapped out, I've been driving since no issues, will keep an eye on it. M54 engine, 187k so far no major issues.
I’m thinking in my case it’s the blower motor, it happens everytime I turn on the blower, doesn’t go away after a bit and smells more of burning plastic
how can I tell if the car is burning oil and leaking from the rocker cover or my pistons being worm , as the car lets out black smoke, but it still starts and drives
A visual inspection will identify a valve cover leak, if it’s bad it’ll be leaking into the exhaust manifold and causing an oil burning smell and some smoke
@@MTechGuy the smoke is not constant either , it only smokes black when revving but goes when driving casually , the cover does have oil residue around and when I did start the car it did no idle or rattle it started perfectly fine and showed good power , this means it’s got to be the valve issue , thank you very much for the reply , just thinking of taking the risk to buy the car only if it’s a valve issue , as a piston issue will be much more of a hassle to fix myself . Once again thank you very much
What about a bad ccv ? I just replaced mine from fcp euro ( non oem ) … If this failed or broke during install ; would this cause a smell and oil consumption? Thanks
When the CCV diaphragm deteriorates over time, the engine can’t ‘breathe’ properly, and can cause pressure build up in the crank case, and ultimately premature oil leaks
Hi, I’ve a 2021 X3 20d G01 with 12k miles, occasionally when stationary or starting up a fume smells comes through the vents without air con on but when in circulation mode it is fine. Took it to the dealer and they can’t find anything and they cleaned the air con. Would you what it could be? Thanks.
I have this problem only happening when I go from forth to fifth gear on my 2005 116 (2005) been advised could be the clutch going??? Any more advice or second opinion or anyone else had this issue
Hi guys I don’t know if you ever been through this Iv had the rocker cover gasket changed but still fell like when I’m driving it, it feel like my face is burning slight and I can defo taste some sort of metal in my mouth, been looking on line to try and find remedy’s, some peeps are saying it could be the pipes from the heater exchange have rusted out but it stressing me out, any ideas??? Have a e88
Following the rocker cover gasket replacement, make sure all the old oil has been washed down from the engine. It might be the old oil Residue still getting on the exhaust manifold

Oilfilter housing sitting on the engine block is also an common failure esp. in the smell of burnt oil
Pain in the rear end to shift also..

Could possibly be failing blower motor, wiring fault or even the heater control panel failing

It appears to be blower motor related in our case…thanks for the insight

Just... Remove the plastic...
Once it’s cooled- scrape it off, and clean up any residue with a wire brush
