I've seen disparaging comments about Witt's mediocrity on UA-cam. Sure, quite a few of his works show a very obvious inspiration from Haydn, but to those who like that style, he does give it a bit of new flair to it. This symphony is a pleasure to listen to. Witt writes wonderfully for winds in his symphonic works.
The negative comments are mostly from the Beethoven fandom wondering how people could think the Jena Symphony were by their genius when it's actually from an unknown composer outside the mainstream canon. 😁
