- Vocalist Marion Cowings and guitarist Ilya Lushtak guide you through style considerations for Jazz singers - approaching the lyrics, approaching the music, and approaching the storytelling!
Marion Cowings - Vocals
Illya Lushtak - Guitar
Eric Suquet - Director
Bill Thomas - Director of Photography
Aaron Chandler - Sound Engineer
Seton Hawkins - Producer
This goes beyond Jazz. This goes beyond vocals. This is life.
My man can sing. Homey can play that guitar. I want to be like them when I grow up.
Ilya Lushtak is also a really good singer, so technically you only have to be like one haha
This is a man that was born to sing!
It's like he suddenly dialled it to eleven! 'I'll attempt to sing it', rubbish, you flipping killed it :D Why are some of the most talented people so damn humble? ;D
Wow! This lesson was gold! That man can sing!
And he is blessed with beautiful pipes!
It's a top-level, great course that's unlikely to be found on UA-cam. Thanks a lot.
...very, very interesting... ...thanks for this important Masterlecture...

I don't really care about sounding different from others, I just want to sing true to my heart and I want everyone around me to know that I am a proud singing American boy!
I think you've made me fall in love with Jazz. The instruments, the style, the voices, everything. I have a new passion and I owe it to you. I can't wait to try it out and hopefully I get the hang of it and have the voice for it.
This suddenly made the connection between jazz and spoken word so obvious!
incredible
he's basically telling is to become the song, not only tell the story but be the main character.
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! I'm a mediocre Trumpet player at best, but I love Jazz Music, one major reason being an obsession with Sinatra, the Rat Pack, and crooners of the like since 3rd grade. I do some singing and wondered if I should get vocal lessons for the genre I know, but finding a coach for it hasn't come easy. This is great. Perfect for what I need. It's so hard to croon and break off from emulating one of the greats. Thank you.
Now THAT was a learning experience. Thank you!
Thanks, Marion! So beautiful!
The first time I've heard someone speak a song and it not sound corny. This is gold.
Mr Cowings is magnetic.Interesting perspective that I hope to apply to my playing. Thank you!
Mr. Lushtak is also fantastic.
MY HEART!!! Thank you for making this video. I loved it so much.

The best explanation…😊
This gives life.
Thank you very much. This is so helpful!!!
Beautiful, thank you
Absolutely brilliant
I would like to request more videos on jazz violin. The violin is not always recognized as a jazz instrument with the broader public and it would be nice to have more content about it to inspire and inform.
Wow, I've NEVER ever heard violin in jazz, I can't call myself a jazz aficionado anymore.
Try fiddle

Look up Jason Annick or Regina Carter! The fiddle channel also has some good jazz violin resources.
I have goosebumps!!!!!
Thank you Marion! I always think how I can put music on to MY way of speaking (the stories). But I often get side tracked by MUSIC (tempo, melody etc..). It's not easy to practice on the recorded tracks, because I don't get a live feeling. BUT, I continue to work on internalize stories. Keiko Kuykendall
That voice! My God!

It is OK, don't worry, you are doing great with your talent. Your are right that each person has their God's given voice, when the music is added, it is like icing on the cake, icing on the voice. Thank you for sharing your talent. Would you sing Amazing Grace , the way you would to speak it, thanks!
I love how masters b like, I’m going to try to, then fly away into clouds for a few minutes.
voxsing help a lot -
I got a lot of things
I want to sing like Tommy Duncan, but can't.
I'm a deep baratone. All do respect, but you sound exactly like you.
When I sing. I disappear into something completely different. I think we should talk.
Lemme know.
Must have been a wet dream.
