Much prefer the Explorer 2.
I had a DB9 from new for 2 years and it was completely reliable and maintenance costs were surprisingly very modest... worst being £2k for a set of new tyres... Great car and never failed to raise a silly grin every time... that exhaust note alone 😀

I owned a 2008 DB9 for 3 years. It was not my daily driver but it was simply the most beautiful car I had ever seen and I had to own at least once in my life.
The build quality was amazing and that V12 sound was amazing. The major fault was the maintenance cost which was eye-watering.
You’re right about the Vantage; the proportions are not quite right, especially the grille shape.
The DB9 driver seats needed another inch of rearward adjustment for a 6’-1” driver.
Conclusion: loved it, but once was enough.
These small batch supercars are like supermodels. Stunning in many ways, especially when everything works, but also flawed and temperamental. You have to embrace that as part of the charisma and Humanity. Otherwise a robot built Lexus will do just fine.

Fun Fact: In that Bond film where he rolls the Aston, they tried numerous time to get the car to flip. They used another brand of high-end luxury vehicle for testing out the stunt. That one rolled easily. But when it was the Aston's turn, it simply refused to do so.... at any speed. So, they fitted the bottom of the car with a large pneumatic device that could be instantly deployed at the press of a remote control button. It shot out from the bottom of the car, and then she flipped.

Again, the first luxury vehicle they tested flipped very easily. When the Aston refused to do so, the technicians had to be called in to get it to flip.
@@NGMonocrom true enough, they already had the car rigged with the "flipper" as a backup. I thought you were implying that method was "invented" specifically for that scene but reading your comment again it doesn't really sound like that at all! Ignore me! :)

Another excellent review Matt and I agree with most of your observations but 9:25 a couple of things: I had a DB9 this year for about 6 months. The maintenance costs were eye watering, the fit and finish wasn’t great and the tyre noise and ride were too harsh for a GT. However, it had more presence than any other car I’ve owned and walking towards it made me grin like a schoolboy. Would I buy one again? No. Am I glad I’ve shared the experience? Yes! Another cracking review Matt. Keep it up in 2023. Your down to earth, unpretentious style is refreshing. Thank you.
So what will you buy instead?
@@gb9399 I replaced it with a Jaguar XKR 5.0 supercharged. Not quite as exclusive but a great drive, sounds great and, in my opinion, a better finished interior. Hugely underrated cars, I think. Currently excellent value for a refined GT. they’re probably as cheap as they’re going to get right now for a decent one. Already has a classic feel and outperforms most at the traffic light Grand Prix, if you like that kind of thing!👍🏻😂

@@gb9399 Nope, an independent has looked after my XK for no more than a service of a standard saloon. I’ve paid much more to get an Audi serviced. I can’t recommend an XKR highly enough! 👍🏻
My favourite Aston...because of that Bond movie. It's those rear lights that do it for me! Loved the opening scenes Matt. 👍

Matt every now and then you put out a super stylish edit....the filming is borderline cinematic and the editing is spot on....I'm not suggesting you're not capable of such work but as an amature that has done a bit of this on youtube I know how hard it all can be......who helps you...ps making of an episode of your channel would make a great episode....because most folk don't understand the effort it takes.

Personally, I'm sucker for the Vantage - I prefer the smaller size, and not having the waste space of those useless rear seats. But really the DB9/S is one of the most beautiful cars ever made.

Being a huge Bond fan since I was 9 years old, and a follower of your channels, this was the video I always hoped you'd make, even adding the OMEGA Seamaster Diver 300m James Bond 007 2020 Edition watch from NTTD and the black tactical neck from Spectre ! 03:43 IMO the best looking car ever made. You didn’t do the Car Vertical plug this week but I used the service recently. With your discount I think it cost me £17 but I discovered that the car I was buying had two previous owners and not one which it was advertised as having. Fantastic review....I've had my DB9.2 (2014) for a few years now and am absolutely smitten every time I drive her....btw she is STILL difficult to park, so 2x on the park sensors 🥃🥃

Beautiful car Matt. I can see myself in it travelling to the supermarket about 2 miles away or to the relatives in London once a year. Its a dream car and its expenses ensure it will stay in my dreams rather than my drive.
Watching this in Christmas exile, I love the Peak District shots and have travelled the same roads often, except I’m more Basildon Bond and you’re pushing the envelope.
