Nice review. I did notice some clicky noise when you were inside showing and explaining what the buttons do. Not sure if it was mouth clicks or some type or artifact. MOO!
Nice catch. that was me being too close to my broadcast microphone that I used for the voiceover. I didn't hear it last night and then I heard it this morning. It is going to drive me nuts. Just shows how important sound can be. 😉
This is legit! I never like to take out my Rode Videomic Pro because of how large it is on top and obstructs my photographing process, but this thing looks nice and easy and tiny while still being pretty good! I'll have to consider it :)
It is a tiny little camera and it performed better than my Rode videomic NTG. I ordered 2 of them. no brainer. remember the power interface only works on sony.
Hi! It is real that this little mic sound better than you rode NTG? I’m considering to get one for nature and wildlife sound recording but now I’m really interest about this little mic
Ok.... I am sold. I have almost never used my camera for video (I dont have time to edit, so video is on my iphone for easy sharing), but after I got the Sony A1, I am starting to get hooked on the magic this camera does with video! And indeed, I do have microphones, but I almost never have a microphone around, ready to go when need it. This may actually do the trick! Ordering one straight away. Great review! Btw, loved the knock know joke!
Great Video as always Josh !!! You are so right about sound !!! I have Sony ECM-B1M a longtime now and I absolutely love it !!! Its so small, light easy to carry and like you said you never have to worry about power or wires. LIKE you I also have a drawer filled with microphones i bought lol .....On a side note for doing voice overs i recently bought the Neumann TLM 103 Microphone and the Antelope Audio interface/preamp that gives you tons of plugins, effects in real time no latency. Previously I was using the Rode-NT-usb mic ....what a difference in sound !!! Keep up the great work always enjoy your videos bud !!! 👍
Thanks brother. I ordered the B1M's to replace the Rode NTG video mics. I was so impressed. It was obvious when I switched back and forth. Congrats on the Neumann! That is the Rolls Royce of Microphones. I use the Shure SM7B with a DBX 286. I'm still trying to dial it it. I'm getting close.
The Sony ECM - B1M , I see negative reviews on it moving and messing the audio? Is this a major problem with that? Also if price wasn't a factor which mic would you get on a sony ev-10? The B1M or B10? Th difference in price where I live is $100 USD, the B1M being more expensive. The environments will be in the gym with dim light, not like pitch black, but not bright. Also in an apartment with well...apartment lighting lol. For my portable ( mobile ) mics I went with sync over rode mic bc the cost was $100 less and they came on a deal with a two way stand to put on a camera ( for say a light and mic ). So the $100 I saved from that I can put towards something else. Kinda my thinking if I have to. If I don't, then I don't.
What an amazing device! Like you, I have about a dozen mics. Always aiming for better... And now I’m trying a Rode on-camera stereo mic for environmental audio, the DJI for dialogue. The search for perfect audio never ends.
It is a noble quest though. It makes such a huge difference when you nail it. My environmental device is the Zoom f6 with 2 rode NT5's. IT's a pain to set up but it is undoubtedly the best for getting beautiful nature sounds. I set it up when I find those really nice quite places.
@@BayouJosh Indeed it is. I’m taking a page out of Ben Horne’s book. His one-mic solution delivers very immersive results. He has a great video on the Rode VideoMic X.

Is this an ad? I guess I ask because I looked for link and this item won’t be released until august but description says no gear was supplied. Love the bird calls.
Sony sent me the product and asked me to review it. I reviewed it and I sent it back. I did not get to keep the Microphone. However they have no input into this video.

I can't get the mk400 to get half way decent audio on my a7siii. I've tried multiple settings in a number of different situations and have no idea what I'm doing wrong. It sounds muffled and has weird reverb.

From our briefing, it was just the number of capsules. You will get a little better sound from farther away on the ECM B1M. However, as you see from my test, the nature sounds from nearly 20ft away processed nicely through the ECM B10. I hope that helped.

That’s tough to say. I used it for about three days. 3-4 hours each day and I never changed the battery. I would give an edge to the Rode video mic NTG for farther out sounds but the Sony mic kills it in versatility. I ordered a couple of the 8 capsule versions that I suspect will be better at picking up sounds from farther away.

how much did you amplify the sound in post?

Hey Josh, first 2 things.... you made me think it was Friday.... and when you had your arms full of furry things I thought you had a serious rodent problem! It was a great review of your Sony gear and it sounds... pun intended that they will work great for you. Dang it it's Tuesday! Greg
