I was raised Primitive Baptist as a child in the 70's to mid 80's. At the time there was a big May meeting in our area. Also every 4th Sunday, when we went to church we had a covered table outside. It was long (about 5 car lengths) and thick, slab of concrete. Let me tell you on that table(every 4th Sunday) was every food delight from the best cooks of moms and grandmothers anyone has ever known. After service of about an hour, we would eat and fellowship for 3. Good times good times. On occasion it would be getting dark when everyone would start packing up to leave. I also noticed extra plates of food would be made for the widowers. Thank you for helping me to remember.
I grew up going to Baptist and Church of God churches. I’m now a Catholic. I do still love the Baptist church and all they taught me. The Church is so important for us and America has lost that vision. We need to get back in the pews
sounds like you have quite the story to tell ! Steve Ray was born and raised Baptist and had a channel. I understand that in primitive Baptist services they use what is called "line outing" for hymns, where the leader sings the first line and then everybody joins in. It's similar to the way Gregorian chant is done. Very interesting 🤔
“speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord” -Ephesians 5:19 So sad to hear that they were in that beautiful church and not making music. I am going to speak to you right now a Psalm, the last psalm, number 150: “Praise the LORD. Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens. Praise him for his acts of power; praise him for his surpassing greatness. Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet, praise him with the harp and lyre, praise him with timbrel and dancing, praise him with the strings and pipe, praise him with the clash of cymbals, praise him with resounding cymbals. Let everything that has breath praise the LORD. Praise the LORD. (Psalm 150:1-6, NIV)

Interesting and thank you. Wish my wife and I could find a small country church like this that had regular hours and days of meeting. What is out here now in the world is better off left alone....
We do Old Harp singing in a primitive Primitive Baptist Church in the Smoky Mountains of East TN-it’s quite hot in the summer but the acoustics are great.
One just southeast of Webster County very similar to the video. Only meets once a month I think. The one in Webster meets every Sunday, 2 Saturdays, and does communion weekend quarterly Fri, Sat, Sun. 30 minute song service before sermon. Accapella 4 part harmony.
This is very interesting. I think some of my ancestors lived in Ashe County. There’s a community in the county that bears my last name “Sturgills” my last name is Sturgill but the name of the community has an “S” on the end. I’ve never visited that particular county in North Carolina but I need to since I have an ancestral connection.
The church I attend looks very similar from the outside. We are higher class though, our outhouses are 3 seaters! Lol. We heat with a wood stove and have no carpet on the floor or cushions on the benches.
Under our apostle Paul’s ministry, to be SAVED, you must BELIEVE/TRUST The Gospel of Jesus Christ,1 st Corinthians Chapter 15 verses 1-4.Jesus Christ died on the cross for all of your sins, was buried, and rose again on the third day.Jesus Christ’s Shed Blood is what saves you when you Believe this plan of salvation with your heart.Romans 3:25”Faith in His Blood”.
If I'm not mistaken there is a verse that says "Paul the apostle to the Gentiles ", also Acts 13:38-39 where paul starts preaching salvation by Faith alone to the Gentiles in the church age , also in Roman's 2:16 where paul stayed that those of us will be judged by God according to PAUL'S Gospel. Peter did come to agree with Paul's Gospel , and he even preached it in his later ministry, but according to scripture,.Paul is the apostle to the Gentiles.2 Timothy 2:15" Rightly Divide the word of truth".

I’ve never known of any Baptist congregations who believed using instruments in worship services is wrong. However, I’ve known of many Churches of Christ, non-instrumental congregations who teach it is wrong to use instruments in worship.
No one said instruments are "wrong" they sing accapella 4 part harmony because instruments are not mentioned in the New Testament. Many play instruments outside church. Song service is long and only congregational singing.
what is the name of the church down the street? I am a Baptist historian and would like to research to see if I can find why they split. If you have contact into for either church I'd appreciate it!

Old Line or Hard Shell Primitive Baptist vs Progressive Primitive Baptists which did allow musical instruments. Usually piano or organ.

@normchristopherson5799 No. Pork has been a staple in Appalachia since the first settlers came here.

3K people and only two outhouses?
I am sure they had more at that point in time. Only makes sense.
