When I was young and poor, I would do basic maintenance and repairs on my own cars. An alternator was an easy repair. It essentially involved removing a couple of bolts, pulling the old alternator out, putting the new one in, and replacing the bolts. It involved about an hour of work. As time went on, engines became more complicated. It became progressively harder to do even simple repairs because engines were so tightly packed into engine compartments. During that time, I started making pretty good money at work and working longer hours. My personal and family commitments grew to take up more of my off time. It started to make sense to pay somebody else to do basic maintenance and repairs on my cars. I am now retired and on a fixed income. The alternator on my car needs to be replaced and I am considering doing the work myself. Replacing the alternator itself is still easy. It is removing all of the stuff in the way that is the complicated part. It looks like it will take a lot longer than an hour to replace the alternator. I wish they would just make the engine compartments larger so that it would not be necessary to remove so much stuff just to get access to what needs to be repaired. It takes basic maintenance and repair out of the hands of the average guy and makes things far more expensive. In any case, thanks for posting the video.
With the two alternator bolts removed from a 2009 Venza 3.5 I couldn't get the alternator out. The bracket attached to the right inside bottom corner of the alternator had a wire attached to it. I could not release the clip so I turned the alternator sideways to access the bolt holding the bracket unto the alternator . After I removed the bolt and maneuvered the wire harness that's in front of the alternator it came out easy. The bottom alternator bolt was accessed from underneath the car. (not to be confused with bracket bolt) And yes I removed the fan.
Did the thermostat housing cause any problems? I saw a video where the guy had to remove the thermostat housing. I'm working on my wife's Venza to replace the alternator tomorrow. Great vid tho. Thanks
There was no need for me to remove the thermostat housing. But I didn't realize that at the time. I ended up removing it because I couldn't figure out how to get the alternator out of the engine bay and I was trying anything. If I knew then what I know now, I could have had it done in one day. Good luck.

What is the correct amperage of the alternator for a 2009 venza 2.7 liter
Thanks!
So do you need to take off the passenger tire to help loosen bolts to take out the alternator
You have to take off the tire to get to the tension pullley so you can take off the serpentine belt that is on the alternator

thank you for showing us ....how many miles were on the vehicle when the Alt failed?
I really can’t remember it was awhile back. I hope the video helped.
Do you still have to take the tire off or can you skip that part since you removed the fan?
These alternators are very expensive
There is a faster way , you do not have to do all that. I replace those in 20 minutes
Please do tell us
still hoping for that faster way????
