I love the music BUT I prefer hearing the true activity whether it’s silence or banter between the workers. It makes us feel we are actually there observing on site. I just love Simon’s explanations and hearing Yanis occasionally.

He also explained that if he replaced the doors to match the rest of the kitchen, they would be as large as the doors leading in and out of the kitchen, making it look like another exit. His reasoning made perfect sense. The old (rather cheap) built-in will still be there, and they were considerate enough to stash the doors in there (along with the spirits and cup) for anyone in the future who finds it. Wait for him to finish the room, and I think you will agree it was a good move. 😊
It would be good if it was possible to open it from the other side of the wall to recover the space and make a nice place for storage or display purposes. Assuming of course that its not a load bearing wall.

A buffet is the type of furniture that comes in 2 pieces: a bottom that has cupboards with doors (either glass or wood) containing saucers, serving plates and dinner plates. The top is often detachable that is usually either glassed doors, open shelves or covered doors - this piece is often half the depth of the bottom. Most of the time, the shelving top part is identified as a "hutch" or "buffet hutch". On the shelves there is a dado indentation near the front of the shelf so that you can sit a dinner, saucer or salad plate in it and lay the back top of the plate against the back of the hutch. On these hutch shelves, many people display their fine bone china, lead crystal glasses or family mementos. Hope this clears up the confusion.

Exactly. The only thing I'll add is that a buffet is generally wider (the width of a triple dresser) and a sideboard is generally about 1.5 times the width of a single dresser.

I have been there several times. The tour used to be FREE! Every time we went, they took a photo of our group and mailed it to us. Twice they gave us a nice gift when we left. One was a wood cut print and another was a big bottle of JD spring water.
This channel is just such fun to watch. There is always a new project, a trip to the DIY store, finding a treasure, redoing the wires, walking in the garden, taking the junk to the tip putting on the Osmo or whatever each day brings it is a joy to watch. The way you added the clear coat to the windowsills was absolutely perfect. By coating both sides (and the endgrain) you can reduce warping as well as rot. I have seen so many warped windowsills because they were installed untreated and were only painted/coated on the top afterwards. This is especially important in a building that has big temperature swings.
I would have taken out the old thrashed cupboard and replaced it with a new built-in china hutch. With three or four full depth plus extension drawers, shelving(glass or wood) with recessed lighting, enclosed with glass doors.
I wish I could be around for whenever someone in the future finds your gift. Every time I see the kitchen, it still warms my heart to see how beautiful it is, considering what it looked like when you guys started.

Just found your page loving it looking at all the convent videos but will go back to older stuff, love this place the history, I noticed you telling alot of information about the place the different rooms and old items you have brought in from other places with their own history and I thought it'd be great if you hung a pretty scroll framed or something like telling the history of what the room was and info on items there originally and added info for anything brought in and it's history and story. Also I haven't found any videos that tell what you plan on using this place for and I'd love to know! So glad there's people out there like you saving beautiful places likes this

Anyone who's seen a sheet of plasterboard, and if you watch this channel, you've seen plenty, will understand that it needs to be kept flat and that the roof rack channels only being a meter apart doesn't work. Yes, I think the word is 'dresser'. I remember years ago watching what was called 'Good Neighbors' in the US, can't remember the British name. Tom and Barbara (Felicity Kendall) Good as the main couple, with Penelope Keith & Paul Eddington s neighbors. The 1st time I saw a dresser was on the set of that show and I was so envious. As do I! I’ve heard this many times before Alex started and would love to know the artist or orchestra so I could get the CD. As well as the guitar musician that is often played! Love it! I frequently travel 4 hours to go home and this music would be a great “passenger” to travel with!
If you wanted to create an interesting effect, I suggest you put a small light bulb (one of those that flicker like a flame) inside the center door 0:35 in the middle (the damper door, the one with the small triangles, above the ash pan) and then let the damper slightly open to allow the flicking flame bulb to show as if there was a fire lighted inside the stove. It would be especially impressive in the dark, to see the effect of a fire burning.

Those bags in the ceiling are beyond strange and yes, I watch murder shows. However, it is possible something precious is hidden inside the concrete, perhaps some of the missing treasure/artifacts. I would simply have to know. :)
Here in the USA we call a furniture piece used in a kitchen or dinning room such as you have described, a buffet. The same sort of piece minus the top dish wrack can be used in a bedroom for clothes storage, usually having a mirror above, is called a dresser. Whatever it’s called you have excellent taste and I’m sure it’ll enhance the already stunning kitchen. The level of renovation and restoration that you are doing is great and a thrill to witness. Yes, dresser is correct. A place for displaying crockery/deĺf and all sorts of knickknack. My grandmother had a beautiful pine dresser in her kichen. As a child I spent many a visit exploring all the objects she had on display - a wonderful treasure trove 🤗
My cousin and I once transported some large, flat boards on top of his car from a hardware store to my house, about a 10-minute drive. I lived in a little beach town at the time, so the wind coming off the ocean could be high at times. We took the smaller roads because we could go slower, and had to hold them onto the top of the car with our hands despite their being tied into place. It was quite a trip! Looks like your transport was less dramatic! Hoping whoever those workmen are in a century or so don't get overly enthusiastic about demolishing things and break that bottle of liquor. Nice gift for them! Billy, a dresser goes in a bedroom. A similar piece in a kitchen would be a sideboard.

Just found your page loving it looking at all the convent videos but will go back to older stuff, love this place the history, I noticed you telling alot of information about the place the different rooms and old items you have brought in from other places with their own history and I thought it'd be great if you hung a pretty scroll framed or something like telling the history of what the room was and info on items there originally and added info for anything brought in and it's history and story. Also I haven't found any videos that tell what you plan on using this place for and I'd love to know! So glad there's people out there like you saving beautiful places likes this

Well done Gentlemen, the cupboard is covered with a secret surprise, windows are caulked and sealed, more of the wood is being Osmos, and then discovered they put bags of cement in the ceiling lol. Who would have known? Very ingenious for the nuns. lol Have a wonderful day
I love your sense of history in the making with your hidden bottle of Jack Daniels! Super idea. When my mother, Pearl, was at the funeral home, I brought in a string of pearls for them to put on her before closing her casket. I told them that this was for the future archaeologists to find. My brother slipped one of Dad's favorite beers into his casket. These are small things, but they give us a feeling that there WILL be a future and we are part of it.

Yes, I think the word is 'dresser'. I remember years ago watching what was called 'Good Neighbors' in the US, can't remember the British name. Tom and Barbara (Felicity Kendall) Good as the main couple, with Penelope Keith & Paul Eddington s neighbors. The 1st time I saw a dresser was on the set of that show and I was so envious. I'm sure I'll be envious of the one you find.

As do I! I’ve heard this many times before Alex started and would love to know the artist or orchestra so I could get the CD. As well as the guitar musician that is often played! Love it! I frequently travel 4 hours to go home and this music would be a great “passenger” to travel with!
If you wanted to create an interesting effect, I suggest you put a small light bulb (one of those that flicker like a flame) inside the center door 0:35 in the middle (the damper door, the one with the small triangles, above the ash pan) and then let the damper slightly open to allow the flicking flame bulb to show as if there was a fire lighted inside the stove. It would be especially impressive in the dark, to see the effect of a fire burning.

Here in the US we would call a Kitchen Dresser a Buffet (no shelves above) or a Hutch (with shelves and plate rails sitting on top. Also known as a Welsh Cupboard.
In Australia a buffet is used in a dining room to maybe put food on for self serve or storing dining room cutlery etc.
It could be a dresser - that has a high back with shelves you display your silver and china on. But it could also be a sideboard, chiffonier, or buffet. Lovely work from everyone

I am sure it gets very frustrating at times, especially with all the changes Duncan and Simon had to do but following Billy’s “ vision” has worked out beautifully so far. Those bags in the ceiling are beyond strange and yes, I watch murder shows. However, it is possible something precious is hidden inside the concrete, perhaps some of the missing treasure/artifacts. I would simply have to know. :)
A dresser and chest of drawers go in a bedroom. A Hutch, sideboard, or China cabinet goes in the dining room or kitchen.
I thought it might have been a bag of reefer in the ceiling TBH. Though if it had been, it probably wouldn't have made the video cut lol.

Here in the USA we call a furniture piece used in a kitchen or dinning room such as you have described, a buffet. The same sort of piece minus the top dish wrack can be used in a bedroom for clothes storage, usually having a mirror above, is called a dresser. Whatever it’s called you have excellent taste and I’m sure it’ll enhance the already stunning kitchen. The level of renovation and restoration that you are doing is great and a thrill to witness. Thank you for sharing this journey.

Dressers are for clothing, while a Buffet or Side Board is for serving from & storage if silver, dishes, chargers, things like that.
I know alot of people like the music and I do too. But I would like it better if there wasn't as much of it. I like to hear the sounds of people working.

Yes, dresser is correct. A place for displaying crockery/deĺf and all sorts of knickknack. My grandmother had a beautiful pine dresser in her kichen. As a child I spent many a visit exploring all the objects she had on display - a wonderful treasure trove 🤗

My cousin and I once transported some large, flat boards on top of his car from a hardware store to my house, about a 10-minute drive. I lived in a little beach town at the time, so the wind coming off the ocean could be high at times. We took the smaller roads because we could go slower, and had to hold them onto the top of the car with our hands despite their being tied into place. It was quite a trip! Looks like your transport was less dramatic! Hoping whoever those workmen are in a century or so don't get overly enthusiastic about demolishing things and break that bottle of liquor. Nice gift for them! Billy, a dresser goes in a bedroom. A similar piece in a kitchen would be a sideboard.
