I'm high as fuck right now. And randomly discovered this band. I dont know what's going on. But I'm enjoying it
Here from Sideways' Avatar Soundtrack video
Me too... :)
Saaaameee
LoooL!! so am I :D
I'm glad I'm not the only one 😂
YES
My grandmother was a first generation American from Finland. I love this song. I wish it came with English subtitles so I could understand it.
They sound pretty good tbh, woudda made a pretty solid avatar soundtrack
it was one of the pieces of music given to James Horner for avatrar
@@dlam2864 I think that's the joke

How did it take me watching a video about Avatar to find this song?? *IT'S SO GOOOOOD*
SAME! I heard that half-second snippet and paused saying "WHAT IS THAT?"
OMG SAME
Same! The moment I heard this in the sample of sounds they used as inspiration for the Na'vi I immediately knew I had to hear more of it. It's fantastic.
I love how they "pass on" the singing to each other on the verses by doubling the latter singer's last line
I was honestly lucky to have ever loved a Finn. She left me with an admiration for much of Finnish culture, and now to hear what sounds like their folk music? It sounds so raw and pagan. Magical and fantastical. That relationship didn't turn out so well, even as a friendship afterward, but man...Despite that, I don't think I'll ever forget Finland.
Finnish women are special, my grandmother was one🇫🇮
I simply can’t explain in words how this makes me feel. I haven’t been this inspired by a piece of music in a very long time.
Simply phantasmagorical.
I agree wholeheartedly. I don't speak Finnish but I know this song word for word now! I had the tune stuck in my head so I just had to learn the lyrics! This was the first Finnish I learnt and I now many other Finnish songs. I originally clicked on the thumbnail back in 2016 simply because one of the singers (Susan Aho, the blonde haired lady on the right) looks exactly like one of my friends.
@@georgejacob3162 I have just looked for the lyrics in Google to learn them as well, even if I can't speak Finnish either. I would like to learn them by heart. It's magical!
When I was in Finland I travelled to Värttinä's hometown to see them perform at the high school they went to when they were teenagers. It was a joyous event. I love their music so much even though I can't understand a word they sing.
I really like their music, lots of love from Iran 🇫🇮🇮🇷🤍💙
My Finnish friend got me into her culture!!
I love not understanding it, it might distract me from the amazing harmonies and lovely communication between them all!

I'm finnish and I understand nothing...
Are you a fan of Yoko Kanno?

Whenever it's the three singers singing together it sounds like the song of the sirens. It's so hypnotic. I feel like I'm being compelled to sail toward their melody only to drown at sea ...but like, in a good way :)
I dont understand Finnish but I love the music.
when you don't understand it, you're like in a dream state. It's amazing!
Hi. This has little to do with the daily spoken language. It is a more poetic ancient language. But right -lay down and enjoy.
I thought it was swedish
@@sparkymarlin You were wrong. Go listen to some swedish next to this. They have some crazy intonation compared to this. Finno-ugric languages are quite different from swedish.
I just thought it did idk why
A few weeks ago I saw them in Prague. It was a pure perfection. You were incredible, I admire you! Please carry on!
I just love this song. Probably one of the best from Varttina.
30 years and still as beautiful as ever
Kulki, kulki kolme luonnotarta , Laulajat laajoilt lainehilta

Great
I've loved Varrtina for over 20 years! They're so engaging and energetic, and those super-close harmonies are just mesmerizing.
here too! Heard them on Late Junction on Radio 3 in the UK in 2002 and have loved them since.
This is truly a m a z i n g music! And Finnish is such a cool language!
At the top, as always. Greetings, my ladies (and gentlemen)
Incredible! After so much members and years of recordings, they still sound like Varttina never changes! But every song sounds ever so fresh and optimistic. I don't understand a word but it sounds wonderful! So very tight harmonies.
Assisti a um breve apresentação deste grupo no Rock in Rio 2001. Lembrei da energia da apresentação e vinte anos depois, voltei aqui procurar por elas.
I watched a brief presentation by this band at Rock in Rio 2001. I remembered the energy of the presentation and twenty years later, I came back here looking for them.
Probably about the same time they had a gig on a Brasilian TV channel:

I think he has all the songs of the gig in his channel.
The most powerful and amazing folk group of its time! Love all their work right from the beginnings!
I understand nothing of what is being sung- yet I would happily immerse myself in this culture- learning from scratch-
Lovely energy and joy in performance!
This is still mesmerizing.
We were in Värttinä 30th anniversary concert in Kuopio last saturday. It was amazing experience. Thank you.
8 years, still a masterpiece.
Beautiful, sounds traditional old style, lovely style.
I may be 7 years late but now that I know they could have been part of the Avatar soundtrack I'm so bummed, they sound so good!!
I'm a year late to your comment but what do you mean they could've been a part of that soundtrack? Where did you read that?
@@eezukkeli There's a really interesting UA-camr called Sideways that did a video on the avatar soundtrack explaining what could have been and why the soundtrack is the way it is now. The original team wanted to create it's own language and sound system for the Na'vi combining basically every unique sound and theme from every culture. So that's what I mean they could have been a part of it, they were chosen to donate their sounds to the pool. Sadly the producer doubled back on his word and decided on a basic Western orchestra instead, thus the original soundtrack was rewritten over leaving what James Horner has produced now. Which don't get me wrong is still magical, it's just not the epic new form of music we could have had.
Wei Wuxian oh wow thanks for taking the time to answer, I will definitely check that out! and yeah, you're right I feel like it could've been even better but I too, like it as it is. 😌 but I would've been such a proud Finn, if the movie had had a song from the group in the soundtrack!!
Sideways sent me
Very good music.
There is freedom and space in their voices :)
Thanks sydeways for bringing this group to my attention!! They're really good! 💜
Finnish language is beautiful. An amazing song ! Thank you very much ! ;)
It's not the most romantic language - but it has a very natural rhythm and (as is evident in songs like this) can be wonderful when sung in.
David has never heard of opinnions.
Thanks.. i'm finn and i thought our language is horrible but im happy now
This is not really fully finnish. It sounds like a mix of different finnish dialects from around the area. I could understand half of it, as a full bred finn. This band could perhaps tell better about it. There were many sentences I could not understand at all. It sounds finnish, but it is not really. Not fully. This is a funny band.
@@tolvana What couldn't you understand?
❤️❤️❤️🇫🇮🎻
Proud of my Heritage listening to your beautiful music.
Great music, don'"t understant a word but it spreads joy :) thanks

You often say that. Are you so surprised ?
yep, greetings from a Russian fan :) loved 'em since 2012 :)
It's so interesting I hear so many influences from slavic, Bulgarian, a bit of Persian and middle Eastern as well. Very lovely.

Thanks!!!
Varttina is my 2019' eyeopener, a precious trove.
Good luck ladies and come to Poland one day!
what I would give to be able to go to a värttinä concert. they are so amazing, their music inspires me to keep practising my singing even though i don't understand a word of what they're saying lol
You and me likewise! I clicked on the thumbnail to 'Lasetus' 5 years ago simply because the blonde lady, Susan Aho, looked EXACTLY like one of my friends! I now know quite a few Finnish songs word for word without knowing what the words mean!
Same here!!! My love for Värttinä made me learn Finnish nine years ago 💕 and currently I'm making poetic translations of their songs into English :)
I absolutely adore this song!!!!!! 10/10
Девчонки на Высоте! Как всегда! Это классика.
Värttinä is something similar to what Gandalf said of the hobbits: You think you know everything about them in a month, but after years they can still surprise you (and leave you breathless, if I may add).
I'm agree with you
The elf's language is inspired by Finnish language
+Mithrandir ## You would, would you now.
I'm so happy you don't have quarrels with Gandalf
within your band. :)
+ShitAnimations.com - Especially Quenya - Sindarin, which we hear more in the movies, and which the Elves used more in the written stories too, is more like Welsh and other Celtic.
And there's plenty more Elven languages where those came from :)
Exactly! (:
Tohle je oslava života. Děkuji za ni!
So were we. Best concert I have seen - ever!
No idea what your lyrics say (I'm Spanish) but I love your music madly! Thank you!
much enjoyment from a terrific group.
Värttinä, at their very best! Love your music
Thank you very much, John!!
No entiendo nada pero me encanta, saludos desde Latinoamérica.
Just perfect song. I have all your discography and I'm listening for various CDs even when I'm tired of folk. It always return my energy and makes me feel really happy. :) And...this song is the most beautiful, I think :) can't stop listening :) Greetings from Lithuania :)
Sideways brought me here and I'm straight vibing lol
I only just stumbled upon Varttina while listening to Gridlock by Trad-Mod Irish band The Pogues.
Must say that I'm very impressed by their use of Finnish vocal tradition, they sound great and the string accompaniment makes a perfect combination. So beautiful to listen to, and an interesting rhythm as well.
I'm already looking for more.
Heard this for the first time on Mark Radcliffe's BBC Radio 2 how last night and loved it straight away. Excellent sound and dynamic.
Found this though a video about Avatar and I actually kind of love it!
Yx miun lemppäreistä Värttinän biiseistä! Tosi ihana musiikkivideo
The fact that this isn’t on apple music in the US is so upsetting
I want to move to Finland... One day...
Don't - it's not a paradise at all. Visit, by all means, because it's a good place to visit. It's a very closed society here, sadly.
David Andrews pfft depends on where you visit! Everyone is welcome here :) nothing but nature and freedom!
People from other countries might not understand the Finnish state of mind and way of living. It takes time to get into it.
Adam Rechnitzer ole hyvä !

You put lots of joy in my heart, I LOVE this song!
they're so wonderful!
so so enjoyable!! stumbled across this by total accident and it's Fantastic.
A Wisconsian friend told me these singing harmonics are close to the ones of ABBA. Congratulaions, Värttinä. You just became the ABBA of Finland.
My point exactly! ) Actually Värttinä's former singer Johanna Virtanen reminds me of Agnetha :)
Just give me MOAR of this and nobody will get hurt!
This slaps.
Finland is great.
Як чудово!!! І такі голоси гарні!
totally hooked.. such a nice tune.. Congratulation.. :)

I only know the chors goes like this:
Singers is about to sing, is willing to sing
willing singer is feeling singing
Saying the words she likes
Gospel singer setting the song free
Singers are willing to sing

Saying the words she likes

So it's about singing!

It is one of the several synonyms for singing, they are using in the song. Specifically the verb "lasettaa/lasetella" means singing in a "straight forward", "open face", "let it go" manner. "Lasetus" is a substantive referring to the act of singing that way.
Exotic yet familiar! I’m from Quebec, I guess we share ‘ getting warm’ techniques.
