I have had my RS3 for a year now, upgraded from the Zhiyun Crane 2. This gimbal was a huge step up but was still not 100% happy… until now! Dude!!! The tilt dial function!!! I had no idea, absolute game changer! The custom settings and deadband settings are amazing improvements to how this thing works! Amazing info, great job!
Hi Peter, everything what you explain here is totally right. Anyway, there is a final step up our sleeves if the footage is still jittery (assuming balancing and all settings are done correctly): BRING THE GIMBAL SLIGHTLY OFF BALANCE FOR THE JITTERY AXIS (YES, off-balance!) Without jumping into deep-dive engineering explanations: There is a principle tendency of control-loops for stabilizing mechanical systems to start 'self oszilation' in case of a perfectly balanced mechanical system - in our case a gimbal axis. In simple words: the control-circuits just do not know into which direction to counter-act an upcoming deviation of the axis. The simple solution is to put the problematic axis very slightly off-balance - only so slightly that it still does not want to completely swing out when the gimbal is turned off. This keeps the stabilization control-circuit for the axis permanently slightly engaged. Again, the off-balance needs to be very slight and should not make the motor overheating. I just solved the often posted horizon jitter of my old Weebilll S this way within a minute - now, the horizon is like spirit level. Where did I learn this trick from: It was my control-systems & cybernetics professor 35 years ago who told us about the secrets of stabilization systems for helicopters.

@@PeterMakholmhe is right, it is better to have a little load on the gimbal motors on than no load, they dont know what to do and the control loop can spin out of control

Great tutorial @PeterMakholm as always, much appreciated. I just pulled the trigger for your tutorial PDF. I wonder if there‘s a trick to put the gimbal upside down for low shots. I always struggle with that.
Thanks for the support. Yes, there is, It is not that hard to do, I do it while the gimbal is on. Just slowly Thun the handle sideways over the over the roll arm and when you got it up side down tripple tap the trigger then the gimbal will turn around, tripple tap again and it turns around again and it is centred and ready to go.
