Barbie is mainly a toy brand...There is no origin or saga of Barbie. Star Wars is much more, it has inspired millions of people to dream about adventure and heroism. It's a modern mythos. It spawned a vast galaxy of stories. There is no good comparison for a girls franchise. Especially as Star Wars is still for all people of all ages, just like Lord of the Rings. Barbie is no more than a Transformers or TMNT. Maybe the Disney Princess movies are similar even though they were NEVER written as girls movies either until the 2000s, they were always aimed at families. And they don't form a universe of stories. There is no girls IP even closely comparable to Star Wars... But if you somehow remade those or Hannah Montana or Twilight and somehow recast or replaced them with guys people would probably say you lost your minds 😂 I guess there would be anger and confusion and it would seem absurd

You should see what they did to Star Trek.😢 I like sci-fi, so Star Wars was my second favorite, after Star Trek. Now I'm really into 1963 Doctor Who, which I'm loving it on Tubi. At first I was like I don't know if I can handle watching black and white and strings but then I came to realize how much time and effort they put into their stories, once you realize that, it makes it so much more better!
I heard they are making a remake of Bonanza and all the "Cowthem's" will ride Unicorns and wear vibrators on their hips.

In the book Memoirs of a Geisha, there is a villain named Hatsumomo. They eventually take her down, but a benefactor of the protagonist tells her that Hatsumomo is a tiger and she will not go down without doing significant damage on her way out.
This is Kennedy. She is a failure. She has lost. There is no way she will be remembered with anything but contempt for a legacy of petty politics and mediocre product. She doesn't care about making anything good. She wants to do as much damage as possible on her way out.

@johnplatt8565 Correct. It couldn't be more painfully obvious. She told herself her ideas were great and it was MEN keeping her from success by gatekeeping her. She stewed for decades biding her time, and she believed once she got the keys to the kingdom she would show everyone how a woman would do it, and prove to them and herself that SHE was the true genius all along. She got her chance and she blew it. Reality contradicted every stupid belief she ever had about herself. And rather than accept it and try to deliver something better, she resolved herself to make war with the people who DARED to shatter her self-image: the audience.

OMG YES!!!!!!! If you carefully catch the hints in that tiny prologue to the novelization... A long time ago... From the Journal of the Whills.... Remember, in the 6 movies, R2 was always there and never had his memory wiped. When people wanted to research the legendary past, they INTERVIEWED R2-D2. I have a hard time picking who my favorite character is, Luke or R2.

@davidgantenbein9362 unfortunately I agree. John Bouega, Oscar Isaac and Daisy Ridley deserved far better from Lucasfilm and their characters were wrecked by horribly thought out writing and unrealised potential. Such a shame.
And they say they aren't trying to replace our stories or muscle out established content, but then they do bs like this, Anakin and Luke will always be the center of the story, Rey didn't even really exist, it's like a fanfiction on wattpad

Oh well. I gabe up completely on Star Wars, as I watched The Force Awakens. That movie confirmed all I believed would happen with the franchise. I have the Original 6 on Blue Ray, and truthfully, I don't need anymore.
It didn't confirm what I believed would happen. Star Wars turned out to be much worse. Rise of Skywalker isn't even a movie I don't know what it is but it's one of the worst things I ever saw.

I've said this before, and I'll stick by it. The only way to save Star Wars at this point is to recast the original characters with younger actors that look similar and still embody the essence of the characters. Stop with the deageing. continue from the original trilogy, decannonize the sequel trilogy, and stick closer to the expanded universe lure. Continue the greatness of Han, Luke, and Leia with new younger actors!

That's true, no one will remember this, but similarly no one will remember star wars. Most of the videos and articles they will find will cover these disney train wrecks and leave a general apathy for the IP as a whole. And that seems to be exactly what disney wants. With star wars, with indiana Jones, with Marvel, with doctor who, and with any other beloved IPs that disney can get its claws in to. A general apathy that makes us forget the love we once held for them.
Remember when Lucas realized Jar Jar just wasn't working? He was still salty about it, but he pushed him aside to a minor role because he knew it just wasn't hitting right among his fans...
Rey is Disney and Kathleens Jar Jar, and just look at how they are reacting to the backlash.
I hope this movie costs $400 million, and has an opening so embarrassing that they just pull it from theatres.

The Rey character really has no story arc. What happened to her on the planet Jakku? How did she live her life there? Not really explained. What is the relationship with her parents when they were still alive? Never really mentioned.
Brian Reagan said to watch out for the Me Monster. The Me Monster really came out in KK with Dial of Destiny, and Leslye was the Me Monster with Acolyte. Now we have another Me Monster with The Rey movie. The Three Musketeers.

If Rey is tempted by the Dark Side the same way that Luke and Anakin were, the new movies can be successful. If not, they will fail.

The bigger question is why does anyone Disney as a company is going to turn around and course correct.
Disney is completely converged and corrupted. Look at the parks, they can't admit the new ride is an epic disaster. They are incapable of admitting a mistake and will double down. If they can't do that in the relatively obscure non-mainstream business like the parks, they won't do it with Star Wars, Marvel, etc..

Rey's push was the start of SW's death.
They can't replace Luke Skywalker with an empty cardboard cut out. Luke was a true hero and an inspiration. He's the son, the brother or friend everyone would love to have! You don't need to look like Luke to identify with him or admire him. Same w Lea or Han. Nothing about these new "heroes" is admirable or relatable. They could have been but Disney screwed it up.
Anything related to the Disney trilogy (commonly misinterpreted as the "sequel trilogy") in any way is not Star Wars no matter what its labelled, its as simple as that. They will never learn, they will keep producing garbage until the franchise is worth next to nothing and then try and sell it, and by then there won't be any fans left, the franchise will be too polluted. Its so sad...

See Natalie Portman and Daisy Ridley did it right. They acknowledge the fans are a big part neither attacked the fans for debating the movies.
Side note;
Portman openly admitted to not knowing about star wars and it wasn't something that interested her, but did watch the films to understand the universe she was entering.
Neither came out acting like they were fans of all of the film.
They were both honost about their knowledge and neither were mo ked for thinking anakin blew up the dethstar.

What you have to remember is that Rey is ment to be the representational avatar of Kathleen Kennedy on screen. Rey is her legacy. KK will do everything she can to push Rey onto the franchise. All it proves is just how delusional KK really is.
Honestly they should have a disclaimer before every Star Wars content "those who enter here, abandon all hope". There is no hope here as long Bob Iger and Kathleen Kennedy are still around.

I knew this was coming when I saw people show the Star wars hotel experience and they mentioned about the lightsaber building experience about Luke Skywalker's lightsaber being raised they don't even mention Luke Skywalker so it's like what the hell
If Disney makes another Rey movie (with the message !), it will be the first Star Wars movie that I will not see in a cinema. I will stay home.

There is a clue to the name of the central character in the Lucasfilm 'Star Wars' and that is Luke! When the original movie was renamed IV 'A New Hope' to form the trilogy the central character became Anakin.

I have to admit I like the stills of Daisy Ridley in the beginning of the video, but the Rey character has been so much written into the ground I cannot get myself to be interested in such a movie. And even if they gathered the best writers and all the best talents Hollywood has to offer, they probably couldn't turn the ship around with the baggage of the Disney sequels "lore", and even if they could you already know exactly who would sabotage it by interfering with terrible decisions...
Love the picture of her directing her two episodes of Ms Marvel, that had to be reshot by another director. Because they were so crap.

Dear Disney,
I have disposable income and I’m statistically likely to live for several more decades. I have three kids aged 7 to 12 who could watch Disney + if they had it.
At this time I have no interest in paying for Disney products and destinations. Feel free to submit more material in the future - I will be paying SOMEONE for quality entertainment and vacation destinations - it could even be Disney films and theme parks if the company makes an effort to compete for my business.
