Nice to meet you. I lived in the salt lake area for many years. We never go over 65. And we tow a Honda. Just got it hooked up. Thanks for the ride. We have you🤠👍🛎🛎🛎🛎
Thanks for stopping by. We have plenty of SLC footage to sift through. It is an interesting place,...........next weeks episode is our visit to the China Wall, north of I-80.
In January 2020, Sue & I were honored to be interviewed by hosts Nicole & Jason of the Podcast "The Nomadic Traveler", a travel Podcast about getting out of your house, off of technology and out experiencing life. In this Part 1 of 2 Podcast episode, we discussed our most popular video "RV LIVING COSTS - ONE YEAR FULL TIME TRAVEL IN A CLASS A MOTORHOME - EP76" published August 2019. Use the following link to listen to Part 1 of 2 of this audio podcast: www.podbean.com/ew/pb-nk4a2-ce0f15 We will be publishing our 6 month update to this August 2019 video, and expect it to be out in January 2020.
I found that in my '18 Entegra Aspire 44W, I can get 9-10 mpg going 61-62 ( and somewhat flat ) but I drop to 7 mpg if I go 67 or so. Like you, I have learned to drop my speed and enjoy the trip.
Thanks for taking us along for the ride... and for doing the driving Mark & navigating Sue! You seasoned full timers are getting us RV Newbies ready for what to expect when we hit the road. Let's catch up later this week if you have time. Thanks! Michael 👍😎🚍
Glad you liked the drive. Hope you saw the calm steering wheel motion at 62 mph. Always time to talk to you Michael,.......give us a heads up when your free. We are on the road again 7-22-19
First SLC will be us touring the biggest man-made excavation in the world,.....the Kennecott Copper Open Pit Mine. Might not be an all time RVer favorite,....but I worked for a mining equipment manufacturer for 10 years,...and it was like memory lane for me! We LOVED SLC,.......lots of things to do in a wonderful city.
I'm keeping an eye on your channel for when you announce whatever rig you guys decide on. Give us a video ride in that baby when you are ready! Would LOVE for it to be a Newmar,.....watch my hands on the steering wheel,.....it is ALWAYS that calm and easy. Never feel wind, never feel the semi's passing either direction. The combo of a tag axle and comfort drive and being 44,000 lbs plus towing 5000 lbs does the trick. PS-The fuel stop I show was for just under a half a tank,..........that's the trade off,.....but worth it.
We are 90% there, already downsized. house on the market-no takers yet but not our first rodeo LOL. As to the rig 100 % Newmar Dutch Star 4369-we've researched blah blah blah for 3 years and this rig is our Huckleberry :) When we found your channel it was and is such an inspiration and it is like oh yea-that rig is us-great pick LOL. We hear ya and can't wait to do a Full Time in our Dutch Star vid.All the best BNG BTW your right yes it's worth it :)
@@rvadventuresofbearnangel9604 If you buy used, don't go older than 2016,.....I regret not having the fire escape door,.......and the 2016 and up has the larger front axle and tires! Can't wait to be twins!
OMG! that KOA at the end looked good,-n-tight. I use to drive semi's and I'd be a tad uncomfortable backing into that spot.......unless the camera made it look much smaller than it really was.
That site was really about like most of them. One of the scariest was a KOA where I had to back down hill, and then turn into a flat site that ended at a cliff that was reinforced with railroad ties. I had to get real close to the edge because we are 44 feet long. Sue did NOT like that site!
Thanks for the kind words,...... When we were just posting on Facebook the first year, I uploaded a video driving up a steep mountain pass, next to a rock wall with a wire protection cage, with orange cones racing by, with Sue & I talking, all to the real soundtrack playing in our cab Bose Revolve stereo that was UTTERLY PERFECT for the visual. But alas,.......that music was copyrighted, and NOT on Artlist, and that magical experience will never see the light of day on UA-cam,......but I can tell you I have personally played it 10 times!
Hi Mark and Sue. Another great snapshot of your journeys!! Thank you for sharing it! My only anecdote of that area was doing army tactical training out at Dugway Proving Grounds. We would be patrolling (tactically walking) along ....and off in the not terribly far distance a van would pull up and out jumped a few folks in complete full body protection suits and masks. They would poke around in the dirt; then mount back onto their vehicle and drive away. I always wondered if we should have been in protective suits too. By the way, does Sue drive your rig also. As we are slowly ramping up our search for a Class A or C, drivability for my wife always comes up. There is probably some graph out there that displays drivability vs creature comforts......and the lines intersect somewhere in the middle. Maybe we will just have to buy one from Angie at NIRVC and get those big rig myths squashed.
If you can swing it,.........get a diesel and the drivability factor will follow perfectly. A gasser in the mountains will be scary if that's where you think you will be spending time RVing. The body roll on a diesel will be a non issue. Steering on a Newmar with Comfort steering will be a non issue. The only thing that will be bad is the dent in your wallet!
You guys are so nice, you two together that's what real love is, i'm not into RVing but i like to watch you two together exploring :) Nice with the humor also! What better way to bound together then on adventures together ;) Greetings all the way from sweden.
Thanks! We have been at rest stops that were even better! I suppose it would be nice for me to tell you what it was, but short of reviewing some of our past episodes, I am at a loss. The stop ended up being positioned on an expansive overlook into a valley. This country has many fantastic surprises in store for all our us "travelers". With your mission of visiting all 50 states, you are in for your fair share!
Thanks for stopping by Mark. I think we are the same size as Bob & Pearls Monaco. We are 44 feet. You get used to the size quickly,....just go slow,.....and have a great partner to help you park it!
I was in Salt Lake City Utah. It was beautiful and sunny on a late fall day. I headed north to Idaho there I found freezing rain. I hope you guys enjoy your time there in Utah. 👍☕️🍩
You are the only one that caught our dual, personal, AED devices! Not sure if they are legal while driving,.....but we DO only us them occasionally. My BEST dash cam ride had copyrighted music playing in the background, so I have never used it. Maybe someday I will get another segment just as cool. Thanks for dropping in.
One of the best things about a Class A is the breathtaking view every time we move locations. Tomorrow, we are moving 3 hours eastward, to the Roosevelt National Park area. Looking forward to that,......
Really enjoyed the video. Traveling a leisurely 62 MPH is easy on the equipment and driver as well. 4 to 5 hours on the road sounds about right to. I would have been pretty tense going through the tunnel and probably would have tried to stay close to the centerline maybe prompting a few honks from other drivers.
Some of MY PERSONAL favorite dash videos I have I can't put on UA-cam because my stereo was playing in the background with copyrighted music while we were talking. I am trying to get better at turning the radio OFF when the scenery starts to look awesome.
✋🏼👊🏼😃❤️Such a great adventure. You went into the tunnel of light. It's so important to stop at the rest stops. Great adventure through Utah. Keep on having fun. Namaste 🙏🏼☮️
Thanks Jace! Our adventure is eastbound,.....currently in Montana, headed to North Dakota, then on to Wisconsin. We will be checking in at "Jar of Poetry" for inspiration to our souls along the way..............
Dean: We are working on a serious video about "the costs to Class A RV". We tracked our expenses during our second year of full time RV, and it is an eye opener. After you see that upcoming episode, you will understand that the driver tip would be much appreciated,.....
I can turn the knob on the dashboard and make the "feel" of the steering wheel act like I'm driving a go-kart, a cadillac or the titanic. It is as amazing as everyone says on irv2.com,.......times 2.
Comfort Drive was exclusive to Newmar from around 2008 until 2020. Models from the Ventana up to the King Aire have it. Now the 2020 Entegra Cornerstone has a version of it. Foretravel and Newell have had their own version of steering control as well for a while.
If you buy a Newmar Diesel Pusher, they have comfort Drive Steering. It's like driving a Cadillac! Solid as a rock, and I can actually enjoy myself driving. Glad you liked it. I will be throwing in some footage on our upcoming FMCA Rally episode.
We are planning to make one soon. Maybe before we leave for Florida in October! First, we will have to take a few trips to Goodwill to off-load things that we have collected! 2014 Newmar Dutch Star Model 4369 at 44 feet, tag axle, 450 HP @ 6.5MPG
Coffee!👍👍 Or Covfefe??👍👍 oh man!!! Does this make me want one!👍👍. Really pretty spectacular 👍👍👍 One year I am going to Bonneville Salt Flat Speed Week. KOA...man they pack them in?? Hotels you are door to door. Not much difference?? Very cool!,👍👍😎😎🇺🇸
Every time we have to leave the rig behind, and pack a suitcase and travel using a hotel, we are reminded of how much better US Travel is in a home you bring along. Ofcourse, being retired, with pensions makes it all possible. The price of this luxury is,......we are OLD! How did that happen,....
Question: How do you tow the Odyssey? I've read that only Jeeps and Durangos which can be made to free-wheel can be towed. Do you have a front wheel lift tow rig?
I would probably NOT RECOMMEND pulling a Honda Odyssey. We are taking a chance,….we have a lot of money on the line with the faceplate mod and air force 1 braking mod. We paid top dollar to get an extremely low mileage 2013 EX-L, so the trans was in as good a shape as possible. Are you willing to risk this like we have? We corresponded with someone on irv2 in June of 2017 that was pulling a 5 speed Honda 2013 Odyssey for over 25k miles. This prompted us to “go for it!” He has since (about 4 months ago, had a trans failure.) He maintains he thinks it was NOT related to towing it. He liked his Honda enough he put a rebuilt trans in! We love our Honda, and will do the same if we have an issue. WE CHANGE THE TRANS FLUID every year! We needed to pull a garage! After many conversations, WE DECIDED TO TAKE A CHANCE, AND PULL ONE AS WELL. We tow a 2013 EX-L Honda Odyssey. This is the latest model, and highest trim level model you can tow. Yes, I know, you are not supposed to tow it! Honda decided it wasn't worth the warranty claims of damaged Odyssey transmissions when NOT shifted into neutral following the EXACT instructions they provided way back in 2004. (YOU MUST SHIFT INTO NUETRAL FROM DRIVE ONLY!) They gave up on the Odyssey towing public, because of this Odyssey peculiarity and said you can’t do it. I corresponded with a few other brave souls that had over 20,000 miles towed on their Odysseys before I was man enough to do it. I have towed ours about 15,000 miles now. The 2013 Honda Odyssey Touring was a 6 speed, and CAN NOT be towed. In 2014, EVERYTHING went to 6 speed. You can search for the Honda Vin number decoder on the internet to make certain your Honda is a 5 speed to see if you would be OK. Any others years you would want to buy, you would want to research the internet and vin # to make sure you are not buying another 6 speed! We liked our (2) 2015 6 speed Honda Odysseys so much, that we sold them to get our (1) 2013 5-speed Odyssey. We are Full Time, and just need one car now. YOU DO NOT NEED ANY ADDED LUBE PUMPS! THIS IS THE TOWING PROCEDURE WE USE,…….EASY AS PIE,….. It has been simplified, directly from the 2004 Honda Odyssey towing instructions, which is the last year they "allowed" towing. The "PV1A Transmission” is the ONLY Honda Odyssey Automatic transmission you can tow, IF YOU FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS from Honda back in 2004 when they allowed the PV1A to be towed. It MUST be this 5 speed transmission. I left in a lot of the Honda legal jargon at the end just for your info. • Start the engine, and get it to operating temperature. (I am usually still packing something up.) • Press on the brake pedal. Shift the lever through all the positions (P,R,N,D,2,1). • Then shift up from 1, 2, Shift to D, then to N. DO NOT GO INTO REVERSE! Let the engine run for at least three minutes, then turn off engine. THIS IS THE KEY, AND THE ABSOLUTE ISSUE THAT MUST BE FOLLOWED. SHIFTING TO NEUTRAL FROM REVERSE WILL SET YOU UP FOR PROBLEMS, AND/OR TRANSMISSION FAILURE. How many times you can do it wrong, I don't know. I am absolutely vigilant on this procedure. You must shift to neutral from DRIVE. • Make sure parking brake is OFF. • Leave the ignition switch in ACCESSORY (1) so the steering wheel does not lock. Make sure the radio and any items plugged into the accessory power sockets are turned off so you do not run down the battery. (Our tow electric cord has a trickle charger line to keep the battery from going dead. We have an SMI Air Force One brake system,.......Honda is around 4,600 lbs. loaded.) If you travel more than 8 hours in one day (including stopping time), you must stop and repeat the above procedures. NOTICE: The steering system can be damaged if the steering wheel is locked. Always leave the key in the ACCESSORY (1) position to prevent damage to the steering system when towing behind another vehicle. CAUTION: Severe automatic transmission damage will occur if the car is shifted from reverse to neutral and then towed with the drive wheels on the ground. NOTICE: Improper towing preparation will damage the transmission. Follow the above procedure exactly. If you cannot shift the transmission or start the engine, your vehicle must be on a flat bed truck or trailer. If you tow a Honda/Acura vehicle with automatic transmission, the fluid must be changed every two years or 30,000 miles, whichever comes first. Although experience has shown that the Honda/Acura transmission and powertrain are capable of being "motorhome towed", America Honda does not assume responsibility for any vehicle damage or liabilities incurred due to the towing device, towing vehicle, lighting hookup, or other towing equipment or towing procedures; any responsibility for these items is assumed by the owner/operator. If you have additional questions, please call American Honda Motor Co. Inc. (National Consumer Affairs) at 800-999-1009. Good luck,…..as I said,…….I would think it is not a good, sound, financial idea,……although we are taking the chance!
Nice video! We are hoping to semi full time next year. Do you make reservations far in advance or have trouble finding a place to stay? We are in Florida and sometimes find it difficult to find a campground on our weekend trips.
The only time we make advance reservations is in Florida or California during the winter "high" season. They are booking 1 month stays in California, and 4 month stays in Florida. (We booked our Dec thru April Florida stay on May 9th 2019.) Most reservations are only a few weeks or days out.
I prefer pull throughs,......and they are fairly easy to get. We don't mind wide open, somewhat barren landscape. The pull throughs usually have less trees and are satellite TV friendly. Pull throughs are nice if you don't want to unhook,.....so you can leave the next day. After about the 20th time you back in, the stage fright starts to leave. If your partner is a good spotter for you, and you work together with walkie talkies you will be golden.
Thanks for driving along! We are even now,.......I was with you when you picked up your rig! Glad to hear your trip out to South Dakota was awesome. Life is all about experiences,.....
@@OurJourneyInMyles We have Verizon service on our Samsung Galaxy phones so I've just been turning the Hot Spot feature on in mine instead of using the campsite internet. The wife doesn't want to use any public internet because she sometimes makes some banking transactions and wants something very secure. I'm wondering how well one of those would work for her while traveling down the road where it might be mode difficult for someone to hack into her computer or monitor what she is doing.
62 mph, 3 to 5 hours??? I drive mine 70 all day long, 8 to 12 hours a day! 3 or 4 hours in the seat between stops! WHY spend more days traveling when ya don't have to? Are ya gettin' old or what? And, I love driving mine at night! Less traffic at night! Hope ya had fun in Mormontown!
We aren't getting old,..we ARE old! We enjoyed stopping along the way in the past to see all the country has to offer. Covid HAS MADE our driving days a little long lately because we only move now when we have to. And exploring around crowded areas now is not for me,......
We started at the Mountain Shadows campground in Wells Nevada. I may have you scratching your head, ..........because YOU are so perceptive!! To be cinematic, I took the artistic "liberty" to throw in one extra tunnel, that was not on this leg of the journey actually. It was a day or two before. (Don't tell anyone!)
Not that observant! Thanks for the credit.....just curious cause I lived in UT a bit. Fun to see places I have been to before. Love your videos. And I always honk in tunnels too! If you want a laugh, come watch my first videos at #RoamingWithRover

(YOU MUST SHIFT INTO NUETRAL FROM DRIVE ONLY!)
They gave up on the Odyssey towing public, because of this Odyssey peculiarity and said you can’t do it.
(I am usually still packing something up.)
• Press on the brake pedal.
We have an SMI Air Force One brake system,.......Honda is around 4,600 lbs. loaded.)
If you travel more than 8 hours in one day (including stopping time), you must stop and repeat the above procedures.
NOTICE:
The steering system can be damaged if the steering wheel is locked. Always leave the key in the ACCESSORY (1) position to prevent damage to the steering system when towing behind another vehicle.
CAUTION:
Severe automatic transmission damage will occur if the car is shifted from reverse to neutral and then towed with the drive wheels on the ground.
NOTICE:
Improper towing preparation will damage the transmission.
Thanks, Mark!!! That is great information. I expected you to respond that you used a towing trailer like the ones U-Haul uses for towed automobiles.
Do you prefer pull thru's? And how easily have you found them to be available?

I prefer pull throughs,......and they are fairly easy to get. We don't mind wide open, somewhat barren landscape. The pull throughs usually have less trees and are satellite TV friendly. Pull throughs are nice if you don't want to unhook,.....so you can leave the next day. After about the 20th time you back in, the stage fright starts to leave. If your partner is a good spotter for you, and you work together with walkie talkies you will be golden.
"Mark!!! Had to try it..." ha, i love it :-)
Thanks for driving along! We are even now,.......I was with you when you picked up your rig! Glad to hear your trip out to South Dakota was awesome. Life is all about experiences,.....

@@gman77gas Gary!?!
You got that right!!!!! : )
What does Sue have mounted on the window next to her?
Those are our MIMO JetPack antennas for our mobile internet. We have them in our Amazon Store.
Why not sound off air horns
One of my favorite things to do!
@@OurJourneyInMyles me too in fact i bought Train horns
Where did you start from this on this Video?
#RoamingWithRover
We started at the Mountain Shadows campground in Wells Nevada. I may have you scratching your head, ..........because YOU are so perceptive!! To be cinematic, I took the artistic "liberty" to throw in one extra tunnel, that was not on this leg of the journey actually. It was a day or two before. (Don't tell anyone!)
Not that observant! Thanks for the credit.....just curious cause I lived in UT a bit. Fun to see places I have been to before. Love your videos. And I always honk in tunnels too! If you want a laugh, come watch my first videos at #RoamingWithRover
Just came across your channel really relaxing you got a new subscriber keep up the good work
Thanks Duncan. I better get editing,....
