The last day of 2020, my younger brother suddenly passed away, only 49 years old. The day before his heart just stopped, he posted this song on his FB, making the remark that "If someone says to better forget 2020 as soon as possible, this person didn't hear this song yet: Castaway Angels by Leprous. Yes, it's from 2020... You can thank me later." But with his passing, this song is now charged with an enormous extra meaning... It almost feels as if he chose this song as his goodbye, and he couldn't have chosen a more beautiful and relevant song. Thank you so much Leprous, for this precious gem. I will never be able to listen to this song without a tear in my eye, but I can't stop listening. And RIP little brother, we love you forever...

I don't know what's more impressive: Einar vocals or the fact that Baard managed to create an intense drum rhythm in a song like this, that could very easily not have drums at all.
Saw them live last year. Before playing this song, Einar suggested to the crowd that we do something different: stay entirely silent. Really added a different dimension to the live experience.
@@incoherence That sounds incredible. A packed venue collectively having the experience of having the auditorium to themselves. I imagine it's much more intimate with nothing to drown out the sound of the performance.
He succeeded. Those last 2 minutes were a tour de force (as a counter tenor, I can hit all off it, but don't know if I could have the combination of brittleness on the high parts and the power on the lows, especially on that big drop). Majority is all up in the 5th octave, and while he does go falsetto and needs a touch of vibrato to sustain the notes (rather than straight tone) the tone quality is perfectly bright and clear and that full octave drop into belting...so good.
God I fucking hate those videos, and the "reacting" genre in general If I had a time machine, the first thing I would do is go back and kill the first person who came up with the cheesedick idea to just play someone else's content and "react" to it, as if that is any sort of valuable content in itself
If they continue the pattern then a new album will be out next year. Because since 2009, when their first album was released, they released a new album every two years. So even if that song doesn't have anything to do with a new album, we can almost be sure that they will drop an album either way.😁 At least if they keep it like that. I mean, they did it five times now so...😅

Actually unreal. I love how leprous never cease to do something unexpected that puts me in a state of awe. Beautiful track that I will be playing on repeat for a while.
I think people dont give enough credit to Simen for the absolute perfect bassline in this song. It accompanies the arrangement so tightly and have a great tonal quality, not spilling over any other element of a song. Perfect patterns throughout whole track.

Stunned. Is there a singer alive that puts more emotion into not just his voice, but the performance of the song and how he makes you feel what he's feeling? Einar you are a true and beautiful artist. So expressive, so powerful, so raw and pure in emotion and composition. This is the best band in the world to me right now and it's not even close. I might be wrong but I think this is partially true. I think Piano and strings were recorded separately, and there is a third guitar part at the end. But anyway it doesn't take away their talent and their ability to do great songs and live shows
I've played this so many times on repeat today. This song is immaculate perfection. The voice, the instruments, everything. And the video just makes me feel it all on a whole different level. The emotion, the hand movements, the facial images, and the clips of gorgeous nature. It's hard to describe the feeling it all gives me, but this song is perfect to me.

I will say the level of AAaAaaAAaa was comparatively low in comparison to other leprous tracks, but there’s definitely some classic AaaAAaaAas in the background of that last chorus.
Great song! What a build-up! Perfection in every way, Baard's odd time signatures, Einar's voice is angelic, acoustic guitar's melodies, piano kicking in...! Wow!
This is the best blending of tenor and countertenor I've heard in a rock/metal setting. Astounding and gorgeous. I will be haunted by this for quite some time.
Oh my god, I can't get enough of this song. The dynamics of the music, the vocal harmonies, the rhythm just driving the song forward -- everything is absolute perfection.
While I didn't actually end up with tears, I definitely got the spine chills right at the end when the music returns to that haunting quiet. Stunning arrangement. Very effective and emotional.

Musically, Leprous is indeed among the most talented of modern prog groups, but Einar's lyrics really bring them up to top tier. I can relate so much to them, or at least what I believe them to mean. Most of their songs feel like they come from long hours spent deeply scrutinizing existence and always coming up without answers. This one in particular feels like its written about being nearly convinced that there is no afterlife or cosmic consequence to anything an individual does in this life, but still having a few lingering doubts or fears that there may be something not great waiting for us across the mortal threshold.
This is probably the greatest song I’ve ever heard. I like the change to soft yet still somehow maintaining to secure their signature sound so effortlessly.

Can't wrap my mind around how they fit that progression in a delicate ballad and made it work. Gloriously. Also, I long for a girl who looks at me with the same intensity Simen looks at Baard at 2:16
The first time that I listened to this song it was mid 2021 and I almost cried thinking about the loss time before I discovered this song. Aphelion has to be my favorite Leprous' record. Almost three years later, I can still feel my eyes feel with tears with Einar's voice at the beginning of the song. Wonderful, amazing, and fantastic work.
No need to make the 1000th comment about how great Einar's singing abilities and voice are, so I'll just leave a short compliment for the song writing. Also, I love the purity of the video, just the musicians and a few nature scenes supporting the mood, it's pure delight to watch. Can't wait to hear a version of this song in Einar's live stream this Sunday.

Two things. First, I'm offended there are not a billion views here. What the hell happened to this world. Second and more important, I still haven't learned the lyrics. You know why?... Because they are not banal. This is a fucking masterpiece. How blessed are we. I feel grateful.

UA-cam's algorithm brought me here after a night of bingeing on older Opeth albums (Still Life, Morningrise). I took a chance, never having heard of Leprous. This is beautiful. Also, holy cow, dude's got pipes! I'll be adding this band into my Pandora mix for sure.
One of the most beautiful songs i hear in my life
Can't wrap my mind around how they fit that progression in a delicate ballad and made it work. Gloriously.
Also, I long for a girl who looks at me with the same intensity Simen looks at Baard at 2:16
Everytime. Every. Song. Thank. You.
This is art. This is how music should be. From within. I have no words to say. Well done.
Man, I swear I will never get tired of Einar's voice
❤❤❤ maravilha, muito linda
This has to be my favourite music video of all time.
Complicated and yet so simple! Beautiful!
I literally cried at first listening and so on... Einar's voice is incredible and Baard being so intense on that kind of song, what a monster
Easily my favorite song of the year.
That soulful glistening chorus on that strat just crushes me... Oystein and Einar in particular take this to an amazing crescendo. Kudos to the engineers for the mix. Somehow you managed it in the face of this performance.
RAW EMOTION.... AND BEAUTIFUL.
Oh my god! I love this song in so many ways! Production, interpretation, lyrics ... making the world get emotional! You guys created something very precious here! Keep your wonderful work alive! Rock on! 🤘🏻
Blown away when I got to see them do this song live.
Absolutely beautiful 🖤 words are not enough for this emotional piece 😢
Beatiful song guys! You're amazing
Two things.
First, I'm offended there are not a billion views here. What the hell happened to this world. Second and more important, I still haven't learned the lyrics. You know why?... Because they are not banal.
This is a fucking masterpiece. How blessed are we. I feel grateful.
An absolutely remarkable band. All super talented. Einar! Your vocals are insane and even better live. I'm 58 and seen lots of bands, but these guys are right up there. I'm lucky to have seen you a few times. Thankfully we have the internet and by my own admission I watch Leprous most days. Give me goosebumps!
Probably one of the best bands in the world. So glad I accidentally found them a few years ago lol
Keep it up!
It's a beautiful thing that we can hear this voice that only this man can sing with. Bravo.
Wow, thank you guys for beautiful song in this gloomy winter!
Just beautiful. Gives me goosebumps and tears of joy. Thank you!
Leprous. You've done it again. You create music as good, if not better, than the last material you put out. I love this band.
That voice! ❤️ Beautiful song. Such talented musicians.
This song is so powerful, yet feels so filled with insecurities. I don't know, but it's just beautiful
Pure vocal control and consistency and beyond and also master degree tension build of a song. Hail to the Leprous!
AMOR ETERNO A LEPROUS
Full body chills on the first listen - that's rare. What a song
You wouldn't believe how much I've cried hearing this song over and over again...
it's too great to be real :""
his voice is SO SO calming
new album, new single!? WHAT!!! I'm so hyped!!
Right?! Didn't Pitfalls, like...just come out?
it's more like Golden Prayers after Malina: a spin-off song in a single format
Yeah but if they continue the pattern then a new album will be out next year. Because since 2009, when their first album was released, they released a new album every two years. So even if that song doesn't have anything to do with a new album, we can almost be sure that they will drop an album either way.😁 At least if they keep it like that. I mean, they did it five times now so...😅
One of the greatest vocalists to ever live.
