- Painting Ikea furniture (laminate) can be really easy if you follow these simple steps!
I had to talk really fast to fit this all in 60 seconds! 🤣
steps:
- sand with 220 grit
- clean all dust, dirt and debris
- apply thick layer of primer. I like to use BIN shellac based primer or Extreme Bond Primer.
- paint with cabinet paint using a satin, semi-gloss or gloss
enjoy!

Ok, now tell us about those doors.. Amazing....
I wanted to know that too! 🙂👍
She has a video of her making these for a friend!
You truly have a talent Not everybody can take a $50 item and flip it and make it look like it's worth 1000 Wow you always rock it out
Love them!
How did she go from basic cubbies from idea to beautiful piece of art!? I want to see that process
Full video on my UA-cam! 💜
Me too! 👍
Go to you tube and look up DIY Danie. Its amazing!!
DANIE what attachment are you using on your ryobi sander please tell me!! You will be my hero
the final result 😍
Omg hi UA-cam
Tip: dismantle the piece and reassemble once painted! Gives a really professional finish…. No cutting in required! Just be careful around the naked chipboard!
Na
It looks fantastic, wouldn't even have guessed its basics is an ikea item, lovely
I was just looking this up on the internets and here you are answering my call. You’re like Batman!
What did you expect to happen, when you turned the giant “ikea symbol” on and pointed it out into the night sky??🤷♀️
Yup definitely psychic Dani this was my chore for today doing my IKEA shoe cabinet !! 😮❤️
I'll be there next week getting a shoe cabinet.
Beautiful transformation
Ohhhh I love the fronts. Beautiful!
It definitely took you longer than 60 seconds to sand & paint that! I feel cheated! 😂❤
The video was 60 seconds, not the sanding and painting ✨️
@@Kriistall7 lol I know, I was just making a silly joke ❤️
Thank you!! Been searching for a video on how to do this!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻😘 love you channel. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
What is it with everyone and these ugly green colors that someone said is in style. Color looks like baby Poop.
If you're not already following Danie, you're missing out! Her channel is AWESOME!!!
Thank you!
Always clean before sanding
If only this would actually be done in 60 seconds 😏
I've heard great things about you. You said the magic words...paint Ikea! SUBSCRIBED!👍
why’d u show something completely different at the end?
thank you! i hate when videos do this and never address it? i wanted to see what she painted finished at the end.
The video is on her UA-cam page. But I felt the same way as you at first. But it’s to get us to go watch the video (which I don’t blame her for)and we’ll prob get a glimpse before she puts the doors onto the green cube organizer piece.
I respect the hustle even if I too was annoyed at first. 😂
You also need to make sure you're using furniture paint and not wall paint.
So would you say an indoor/outdoor paint is not suitable? That’s the paint I was planning on using
@@kweennikki100if you’re going to go through all the effort and time it takes to paint furniture and ensure durability, you’re better off using all the proper things up front.
1. Shellac based primer or specialty adhesion bonding primer for hard to adhere surfaces
2. Enamel Cabinet paints not wall paints or paint specifically designed for furniture (chalk paints, alkyled paints etc).
3. Proper top coat/sealer like polyurethane clear coats designed for furniture surfaces can help overall durability or scratch resistance in heavy used surfaces (tables and shelves for example).
The majority of the work is in proper prep, sand, tack cloth, degrease (Krud cutter foam spray is my favorite) and clean off. Ensure its dry, prime, once dry fine grit light sanding, tack cloth again. I like priming with two coats but I’m also aware that the pieces I paint (cabinets/shelves/media cabinet) can be prone to heavy accidental abuse/wear and tear. Once double primed and sanded and wiped then paint accordingly.
Using the wrong paint or a poor quality paint, even with proper prep, can seriously mess with the durability and finish. It’s just not worth the frustration and breakdown since you’ve already spent time prepping it properly. Lol I’ve learned from my past mistakes just trying to use any paints, and they were high quality interior/exterior wall surface paints too. Your future self will thank you if you start off using the correct paints for the surface your working on
@@kweennikki100 you can use regular paint don't worry
Very nice! But I want to know about how those doors came there! 🤔 And how you got them to look so decorative! 🙂
A professional old school painter taught me to tint your primer with your finish paint color. It provides more cover and you'll need only *one* coat of paint. Primer is usually cheaper than paint. Win win
Good tip! I’ll remember that one!
Thank you so much. I have so many pieces to paint for the play room
Beauty and talent
me the whole video: ooo what color will it be :)
the color: baby puke
Dixie Belle Slick stick- no sanding or priming needed
Love that color. I have a question, do you recommend using a cabinet or trim paint instead of furniture paint? I have a vanity to paint and looking at furniture paint has been overwhelming and it's quite pricey.
Where did you get those doors? They are fab!
I’m wondering that too. I love them!!!
I made them! You can find the full video on my UA-cam channel! 💜
Thank you 🙏
Your final project turned out amazing. My daughter was just given an IKEA tv stand and the paint is flaking off in sheets. It’s obvious they didn’t sand or prime. She asked if there was any way to save it. I told her yes but it’s going to be a lot of work. I’m going to use your technique I’m kind of the grammar police at my house and not to criticize but you pronounced melamine incorrectly. The mine sound at the end is actually pronounced meen. Meh-lah-meen.
Grammar and pronunciation are different things.
While you announced the correction in a kind way, please be away that pronunciation can often be more rural specific, country specific and often shows that someone learnt the word by reading it from a book/magazine (having had no previous exposure to it being said). So, when you look at pronunciation like that, you are most likely going to embarrass someone about their culture, or speech and language issues, or the fact that they increase their lexicon via reading.
Always safest to be the authority of spelling and grammar within your own family (who are most likely more used to your style of showing love), than total strangers on the internet.
Do you still need all that prep if using CHALK paint?
How to reduce brushstrokes or foam roller texture? Sand in between layers? If so, what grid? Or will one layer of paint be enough? Will the finish be smooth?
220 she says it quickly. 😁
@@EmmaSimard no, the 220 sanding was for the original, unpainted piece to give a surface for the paint to stick to. This person is talking about hiding brush strokes after they paint.
Some paints are self leveling which is the most ideal in any situation. If you are going to sand between layers, you really need to let that paint fully cure first and you can use a 220 grit. If you're worried about brush strokes though - I vote spraying it! Beautiful professional looking finish every time and you can rent one from most hardware stores.
VERY NICE...
Less words will allow slower talk. Glad you’re doing shorts!
Thx
Good info, but you need a mic! On the highest volume, I can barely hear you.
So you’re just gonna slam these GORGEOUS doors on us without saying anything about it 😂😢😂
Traumhaft schön ❤❤❤❤❤
♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Others I've watched said that sanding isn't necessary if you use the shallac primer. Thoughts?
Danie pls tell me what is attached to your Ryobi sander. Pls share 🙏
Tricky title!
How many layers of coating paints is required?
Do I need to sand down Ikea furniture if it is out the box
What about a 2 in 1 primer and furniture paint (satin finish, waterbased)? Do I have to use a shilac primer under that too? Im repainting my new kitchen cabinets to black. I have amazing results on doors with this paint in white, but I used primer under them mainly just to mask the previous colors, and primer is cheaper. Shall I use primer just to play it safe or is it a waste of time and money, because my paint has primer in itself?
Are the doors already painted or wood? If it was me...I would def prime first to be safe. I've done the "no primer" route because my paint was a paint-and-primer in one and ultimately regretted it.
@@DIYDanie thank you. I also think that will be the safe choice. And applying primer is way faster and easier than paint anyway, because it's thinner. The new kitchen cabinets are laminated, and the other doors were laminated too. But only time will tell how successful were my painting. They look and feel amazing (they look like they were sprayed), i only finished them like 2-3 weeks ago. (All my indoor doors)
What is that color?
baby vomit green, obviously
Wait, what? How do I get to see the rest? Anyone?
Her UA-cam page. Remember these are quick shorts for UA-cam pages. So anything you see here, is prob an advertisement for a longer video a lot of the time 🙂 hope that helps.
Volume is too low
Would this be the same for the doors? I want to paint Kallax drawers from grey to black
What brand of furniture paint do you use?
Kallax comes in white
so to get the smooth finish is just clean the furniture and sand then prime and paint ? ive heard people prime 2 times and sand them each time then paint. which way is it ? 😢
I think it depends on your material, whether there’s any damage and the level of finish you’re going for. From what I’ve seen, if the mdf or particle board is damaged, more priming and sanding is required before painting
Doors yes where's part 2!😊
Where did you get them doors fro
Where can I get a sander like the one from the video?
I got the one in this video from home hardware but any hardware store will have what you're looking for!
Is this Ikea kallax?
I’m confused… the end result looks nothing like the Video 🤔🤷♀️
No clear coat?
Can I skip sanding it down if it’s new out of the box?
I wouldn't think so. Sanding preps thexsurface for primer to bind, so it won't chip off.
Why not just buy the white option 😉
This would be helpful if I could actually hear it
You’re giving the wrong info. Never sand your piece first. You clean it first then sand it then clean off the dust!
CAN YOU PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT YOUR SOUND, ITS VERY WEAK.. THANK YOU
Audio is too low.
I can't hear you?!¡!!?
Use a paint sprayer with built in primer. This is a waste of time!
You hadn’t explained how you made those cabinet doors?
Check out my next UA-cam short!
U can get the primer tinted closer to the color so u don't get the white wear down spots over time
You liar, no way you did all that in 60seconds 😂
Awe shucks... 😔 I wanted to know how to paint it in 60 seconds.
