But I kept going, all tools needed to assemble were included ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxqtX4Dxs6aecAZEuz6GY5-d81YecKCshn and I had it set up in about 30 minutes. Honestly I love this thing, make sure to read the measurements and measure your space so you know if it'll work for you. I bought this to put inside my closet, underneath where I hang my clothes and it is absolutely perfect! It is VERY sturdy and all drawers glide easily and mine are stuffed, and they are still flush when closed.

    I got sent here by @diydanie . I've never tried to paint laminate before I usually use the shellac bin because I'm painting wood and I have tannin bleed through. Usually sanding between coats has to do more with getting a smooth even finish then with bonding itself. Sanding between primer and paint would only make a difference if the primer went on kind of lumpy or rough. I would love to know by what you meant by like latex paint and cabinet paint? any of these chalk paints or mineral paints? What brand? What sprayer did you wreck? I'm going to have to check out that extreme Bond stuff cuz I've been doing a fair amount of furniture work. I don't foresee myself doing a lot of laminate but I do currently have an Ikea desk but I kind of beat up and I'm switching up my desk and give it to my kids so it's going to be in the living room and I either need to paint the top or contact paper it. Do you know if that primer happens to block tannins? Thanks for the video

      We had some Oak left over from another project. It was 1 1/2" thick pieces of Oak that we glued together to make the top.

    • @LindiandRuss
      @LindiandRuss  8 місяців тому

      I personally don’t like chalk paint in general, so I would advise against using it. I don’t think it’s nearly as durable as other paint types.

    I'm jealous, I used SW Extreme Bond and had horrible results. It scratched off so easily with my fingernail even though I sanded prior. The only difference is my SW Extreme primer was tinted. So maybe that was the difference maker.

    • @LindiandRuss
      @LindiandRuss  6 місяців тому

      We’ve used the tinted primer lots! Is it possible you didn’t give it enough time to set? We’ve used it on so many projects and have had literally zero issues - tinted and not-tinted!

    So, did you remove the Ikea top and make a custom extended top to cover the little side piece that you added? You replaced the top after the painting was done? What did you use for the top? I wish you had shown the entire process of how you added the top and exactly how you built the beautiful drawer fronts. (I'm not smart enough to figure all that out without specific instructions.) Great job though. I love it!

    • @LindiandRuss

      We had extra oak from another project so we laminated it together and made custom counter tops for these built-ins. But you could also get a pre-made wood counter top from a hardware store, cut it to size and do the same thing :) This video just goes over the painting - the actual build happens in this video ua-cam.com/video/BZkNRAHOR-I/v-deo.htmlsi=Sa2JfS28hv0NKP1Z or search "Reading Nook & Upstairs Loft Reveal" on our channel :). I have heard about the Bin Shellac primer but you are the first with the extreme bond primer. Which would you recommend for apartment settings?

    • @LindiandRuss
      @LindiandRuss  Рік тому +1

      Extreme bond is alot easier to use and clean up. Shellac really shines for preventing bleed through on bare wood. As long as your apartment is ok with painting - I would go with extreme bond. If you are just painting walls, a primer like bulleye 1-2-3 is fine too.

    • @LindiandRuss
      @LindiandRuss  2 роки тому

      You definitely can use any paint method, this is just showing the method that I think will last the longest and give the best finish! If I was using a lower quality spray paint, I would probably sand in between each layer and still definitely use primer!
