  • In this video, I'll talk about the difference between sketch files and regular cut files and how you can use both for sketching with a Silhouette Cameo (or other digital cutting machine). I'll also show you how to create sketch fills for shapes using a couple of different methods.

    Thank you for this video. Internal offset is a wonderful option especially if you are like me and do not own the Curio. Had not thought to use this feature with digi stamps. I’ll have to give this a try. Great tutorial once again.

      Velvet Simon - Yes, internal offset is definitely a handy option to have! Glad you enjoyed the video. :)

    Nice results, as always, Kristen! I like how using an "off the shelf" marker produces slight variations in texture and shading, giving the final product a colored-by-hand look. The overall image is crisp and "perfect," yet the subtle tone differences suggest something that's homemade. The best of both worlds.

      Thanks, Keith! Yes, there's so much variation that you can get from the sketch feature depending on what coloring tool you use. Results can be really solid looking or, as you mentioned, have variations in texture in shading that give the final result a colored-by-hand-look. Lots of options!

    I'm trying to fill an animal shape to sketch. Is there an easier way to do this rather than keep hitting internal offset so many times? Do you have a video that shows how to fill animal or other shapes besides font?

    Anyone that want to drawl and not have double lines can put it in a editing program like adobe Illustrator or caldrawl think that a what its called where you can trace centerline and in Adobe its sketch trace and it won't have the double lines, that's what I do .

    Thanks for the video! Could you please explain the difference between the "sketch fills" method and the "internal offset" method? Will either of the method work for creating a solid foil fill design with the Foil Quill? Thanks!

    • @kdotbecca
      @kdotbecca  4 роки тому +1

      Janice Yu - With the "internal offset" method, you're creating slightly offset lines inside the original shape to fill it. The offset lines are close to each other, and this method works really well with most pens and markers, unless they have very fine points. However, this method doesn't work so well with the Foil Quill because the tips (at least the fine and standard tips) are small enough that you can see the individual offset lines and blank areas in between them in the finished piece.
      With the "sketch fill" method, you have a number of options for creating really tight pattern fills inside the original shape, so the results with this method tend to be MUCH better with the Foil Quill because there isn't as much space between the elements in the fill as there is with the internal offset fills. The first method that I learned used the grid sketch fill with some additional adjustments, and it works great, though it does take some extra time for the machine to foil with the Foil Quill. Here's the video that I learned from: ua-cam.com/video/LCsd5DHEjL4/v-deo.html

    Hi, do u have a you have any for sketching with sharpie markers? As far as when you get to the end and cameo stops with pen down and you get a bleed in that spot. Thanks

    • @kdotbecca
      @kdotbecca  4 роки тому +1

      cutflower - I wish I had some tips for preventing the little bleed spot that sometimes appears when the Cameo stops, but I haven't found a way to prevent it. Sometimes you get lucky and it blends in pretty well, but most times not so much.
