Because I am a really slow walker and wanted to stay in albergues that offered communal meals, or were unique, I emailed all of them in Feb. and reserved a bed. I found one in San Sol, called Albergue Karma, that offered single beds for 6€, and he made dinner for us for 8€ p.p. and served us in a cool, stone cellar. What a deal!!! It pays to look around and reserve sometimes, especially if you are slow or older or want a more unique experience. For municipals, do stay at the one in Azofra! Single beds and only 2 people to a room, with a big locker for your pack.
Hola Camino for Everyone…. I’m an older/active hiker and would like the same type alberques as yourself. Would you mind sharing the ones you found that fit our description or point me in the direction to look? Thank you in advance and buen Camino!

This is a very good overview of albergues on the Camino de Santiago. There are many different types, of course. I think it's worth trying different types of albergue. I used to like them all, because after a long day walking I was ever so grateful to have a bed and a shower. Anything else was a bonus.
11:07 in 2014 I was denied entry to a public Albergue in Burgos. They said it was full. I arrived at 20:30 and had been walking since 07:00, so it wasn't too difficult to go on. It cost me 60 UER to stay on a hotel. That was no fun an very stressfull...
I am happy to hear things have opened back up again. I did part of the Norte in September 2021 and I had to sleep outside a few times. I moved to the Frances, which was worse, as it was cold outside. So cut short my trip as I didn't have proper gear to be sleeping in the elements and spent way over my budget. Wanting to return this fall and probably do the Portuguese. Thank you for sharing your experiences and tips.
The Camino del norte can get cold! I did it last year in august and let me tell you that in some parts it was waaaay to cold, especialy in Asturias or Galicia... hope that your Portuguese will be a enjoyable experience :) will you start in Lisbon?
I stayed in a fantastic Hostel in Logrono called "Winederful". I booked ahead as there was a huge wine fest going on in Logrono at the time. One thing I found out while in Spain, the Spanish know how to party!
Great video, agree with all. Couple of extra tips from me on beds, go for the furthest from door if available, take a large towel & use as a curtain, take a cotton mattress cover (those paper covers are terrible)
Totally agree !!! I also have forgotten to mention that you can do washing and drying in every albergue. I know its a basic info but maybe not for all :)

My partner and I are experienced lightweight backpackers and already have our gear and would enjoy being able to camp part of the time and to occasionally stay in albergues and hotels. And do you think it would it be possible to do this while still meeting up with new friends for meals in town? We've also heard horror stories about how noisy some of the albergues can be at night, making it impossible to sleep, so that a tent for a good part of the time seems even more attractive (would you agree)?

And I really need some time for myself now... Do you know if it's possible to get a bed (not for 50 euros) in an albergue in March/April without a sleeping bag and travel camino del norte with a 30 l backpack? I have spent many nights youth hostelling in the UK. I have never fallen out of bed at home, but I have not managed to sleep a whole night in a top bunk without falling out in the middle of the night. Why is that?
Pro tip about earplugs. Get used to them BEFORE, you go. Not during. They can take a bit of getting used to. Also, don't get an ear infection before so you spend most of the time unable to cover ears. Luckily mine was mild but still.
Hey! I'm trying to learn some Spanish but I'm worried that when I go I'll have a hard time booking a room due to my basic knowledge of the language. I'd like to primarily stay in albergazes. Most Hospitaleros speak other languages, more than the Brits , Americans etc so don't worry. You pick up a list in SJPDP of the albergues, their addresses and phone numbers.. like Ricky says.. ear plugs are more important than which albergue
Hello Ricky. I really like your videos and you helped me a lot, but I got a question: do you have any experience about walking the camino portugues mid/end december? I got three weeks off (from 16th of december) and I'm thinking about walking it - BUT it's christmas time - Of course it won't be busy at all and much will be closed, I guess. But how about the Albuerges, Hostels and/or Hotels? Could there be a problem to find something at all, especially around 24th-26th? What would be your advice for a camino newby? :) Best regards - Marina, greatings from Austria.
Hi Marina! How are you? That’s for contacting! I never walked the camino Portuguese during Christmas… during my walks I would normally stay in mixture of public hostels and private. So it’s a matter of checking few in the places where you wish to stop(more or less) emailing them and you will know perfectly! Probably the first one contacted will tell you what is the situation on the camino( which are open or close etc), this would be my advice. And shops? There are always things open, obviously less but always. :) I hope it could help… try it ;)
Hola Ricky!
Thanks for the inspiration! I'm wondering, when you say there's the option to call beforehand, where do you find phone numbers? Or which websites do you recommend?
Thanks you so much! Hope your Camino will be unforgetable.. the phone numbers- all depands where you start, as it sjpdp, in the pilgrims office, they will give you a list of all albergues on the way(French Way). Otherwise you can use one of many apps, I made a video about them, not to long so have a look and decide which suits you the best! Hugs
Hello my Friend! Thanks for writing, try to check any of the main Camino apps, they have a list, they are called “municipal albergues”, and there are quite a few of them!
What i normally do is having my money and passport on me and the rest is only clothing and food, no much to loose... in some albergues they have lockers but not in many. In general Camino is a heathy and safe enviroment, and if someone want to still my dirty socks, it mean that he need it more then me :)
It was the safest time. No problems, on portuguese or Spanish route.. Never felt scared or concerned. People along the way were more than kind, generous and respectfull. Kindness begets kindness. Incredible experience. Travelled in March 2017. Weather was fine. Not too cold or hot. Only sprinkling of rain. Just right for me.

Holaaaa! que tal? el camino esta menos transitado, pero tiene servicios suficientes! busca albergues municipales que admiten por orden de entrada, no por reservas. feliz viaje
Hugs
Ho do you find the list of albergues, specially the public ones that you don't book? I struggle to find them
Hello my Friend! Thanks for writing, try to check any of the main Camino apps, they have a list, they are called “municipal albergues”, and there are quite a few of them!
Has the number of people sharing a room been reduced since covid?
Now it’s all back to the previous numbers, no restrictions.

Hahaha, i always take the top bed 😁
Would love to chat with you!! Need help
Contact on caminotellers@gmail.com ;) maybe we can help ! Hugs
where do you put your backpack in albergues? is it safe?
What i normally do is having my money and passport on me and the rest is only clothing and food, no much to loose... in some albergues they have lockers but not in many. In general Camino is a heathy and safe enviroment, and if someone want to still my dirty socks, it mean that he need it more then me :)
@@caminotellers I assume also your camera equipment and such?
@@lzakje yes. I rather have my eyes open , but my heart is relaxed.
100 people in one room- INSANE
Even 189 in some places, but… you would be surprise how amazing the vibe is ;)
Are the Albergues open in Winter?
Some of them only, and mainly the private ones.
Are you planning some Camino this winter?
@@caminotellers I want to go as soon as possible. But I don't think that it will be possible until late fall or Winter. And I would rather go in Winter than wait for next year. I am so ready to go. Now now now.
@@winnienagel now now now :) i hope you can do it, sooner then you expect 💚💚🙏
@@caminotellers grácias. And Thank you for making great videos.
tell me about your camera and your camera strap. thanks
I have few ;) the best stabilizing is on action cameras (go pro10) but the best quality on "full frame" (a6600) and some cinematic views on the drone... are you planning to walk Camino and record?
@@caminotellers I did the Frances 12 yrs ago. Portugal 2 years ago. Will do Frances again beginning July 19 beginning in Pamplona. I meant I can see you have a kind of camera holster or camera strap that is forward on your backpack. Is that a special holster?
We had a great snorer one night in Rates. Everyone huffing and doing nothing. I got up and as politely as I could I put my hands on him and rolled him on his side. I told him he is too young to snore. Not a peep out of him the whole night. Funny he left early morning...🤔
Hahahahah epic! I would love to see it!
@CaminoTellers - In search of the holy Trail got better...I later found out that he was a bit of a pest and had been a nuisance to one of the ladies, who was so gratefull not to be bothered by him anymore. You never know what a simple act can lead to.
Only cash?
In many yes… especially donative or super small! But also options to pay with the card.

Quién quiera una buena cama y habitación que pague 100€ la noche. Y dormirá tranquilo y sin cena.😂
I would be VERY CAREFUL about this idea of sharing room with total strangers in our times of this crazy generation. Some people want to go for real pilgrimage, others for weird adventures.
Thanks for the feedback Marcie! Hugs from India! I’m doing the Dandi March and I’m the only pilgrim in the whole Path in the last 5 months…
@@caminotellers I DONT WANT YOUR HUGS, and I knew from the beginning something is NOT right with You and YOUR PILGRAMAGE. Let Archangel MICHAEL REBUKE YOU, I pray.
How weird we talking.??
los Peregrino de verdad no es siguen el turista pide atencion queren pagar poco y comodo ya el camino se puso turismo
La última semana hice in camino en India con 300.000 people at the same time… I think we are still far away from that on the Camino.
Pre-booking is CHEATING!!! Be a Pilgrim , not a Tourist! Why not just take the Bus?
Hi Al! There is definitely more fun when no reservation is done! hugs
Do you recommend taking those plastic sheets you are putting on the bed?
The accommodation provides you with those usually!
Thanks!
