The man Biasion is talking to is Claudio Lombardi, the engineer who crated the twin charged (volumex+turbo) engine of the Delta and later on the very same season went on to become technical director of the team. Biasion and Lombardi are talking about the tires set-up for the race: four quick runs for comparison and then going for another set-up, and at the end of the day a massive check with the gearbox change. Nothing, nothing left to chanche: Lancia and Abarth was a gathering of pure genius, discipline and strenght
The most exiting rally car in my opinion , a twin charged set up giving it almost instant boost pressure at any RPM, seemingly they tested the engine at 5 bar of boost claiming around 1000HP., the best days of rallying with no fancy technology , just raw power and drivers with steel balls.
Marvdogger2 it’s just great to view footage that I haven’t seen, thanks for sharing this. Do you know if there is any in car footage from the S4, or any footage from Estoril in 86 when Toivonen took the car on the G.P track?
saz9170 they mounted a camera to the bonnet and door of one of the S4s on the 86 Sanremo but it was’nt driven and in anger just used to get some shots of one of the tarmac stages. I don’t think they ever ran a competitive stage with a camera rolling. It was only Audi and Peugeot who did that.
Marvdogger2 That’s a real shame, the only footage I could find was of Alen doing some sort of shakedown on a runway with only Alens side profile and a few gear changes. But thanks for answering. 👍🏻
I don't myself as i'am only collecting footage from the group B era. Highly likely though there will best test footage of the Integrale from the Monte Carlo, 1000 lakes and Sanremo in 92 and 93.
I've had this for years just never got around to using the footage. Was going to use it as part of my Delta S4 story originally but that wont be happening anytime soon so thought i'd just post it separately.
Jean Gabin September 1986. In Tuscany, near Montalcino, Biasion tests different setups and tyres on a spare car (Chassis no. 206) before the Sanremo Rally.

Group B was far bigger than the F1.
Group B used F1 technology.
The F1 cars of the time used 1.4l turbo units producing ca 1450hp.
@@philip_si what did u want to say by that
Best rally car of all time ... Except for the sound. That has to go to the Quattro.
