Swannanoa has NEVER been a "suburb" of Asheville. And Asheville is no longer fit to raise a family in. I lived in Swannanoa most of my life and still call it my home town. If it ever becomes as trashy and smelly as Asheville, God help the people born and raised there. I avoid Asheville when I visit family and friends in surrounding towns.

Amen terryk52 Since My first reply was apparently deleted, i'll say again, since I was born(Mission Hospital), raised, and still live in Swannanoa; because my family has been here farming and working for 110+ years, you are correct. They can develope else where, she says "its not much"; Neither is your opinion of our home, lady. Hardly any natives remain here now.

Soon there will be no country or a new bastardized version of what "country" is. A perfect example is what happened to "country" music. Same logic.

@@livinginashevillenc I love it - it's so close to Asheville AND Black Mountain. And convenient - although there's no downtown to speak of, there is an Ingles and smaller stores almost within walking distance. And the views! The mountains on both sides of the valley are so beautiful. There's also Warren Wilson college, which has its own hiking trails that connect up with the Swannanoa River Trail that starts at Charles Owen Park. WWC's trails are open to everyone!

Check crime rate, employment opportunities, wages compared to other cities in NC before you move to Asheville area.
