  • Dr. Erwin Lutzer attempts to peek behind the curtain of death, discusses how to overcome the fear of death, and addresses what the Bible teaches about the death of infants. In addition Dr. Lutzer and Dr. Ankerberg discuss how to overcome the fear of death; what happens at the point of transition from life, to death, to heaven; what the Bible teaches about the death of infants; your first hour in glory; the descent into gloom; and how to have complete assurance you are going to Heaven.

My husband died and everyone in the room saw him get out of his hospital bed and wanted to run. He had a break in his back. Even the Minister tells of this when he meets with those who are passing. My husband shouted He is Beautiful, God is good God is Great. His body laid down in the bed and he was gone. My daughter saw this, the minister and his wife (who is a nurse) saw this and of course I saw this. We were in our Bedroom. After he passed I felt such comfort sleeping in our bedroom. He loved the Lord unconditionally.

Michael Smith I'm so sorry for the sadness you are experiencing now. Barely three months and I know this is a very hard time. My daughter moved to Heaven on July 15, 2012 after a short illness. So it's been six years and I miss her just as much today as the day she was called Home. But praise God, we know we will see our children again soon. My daughter is a believer too. One of the things that has gotten me through is to study Heaven. I read an excellent book by Randy Alcorn called 'Heaven'. It is all scriptural like this video. Just imagine what our children are experiencing. I can imagine that they are both making lists of wonderful places to show us when our day comes to go Home. I know they are as anxious to see us as we are to see them.
When my daughter passed, we all lived in Anderson, SC - but , relocated to be with her son and husband who moved to be with his family. Her son was only 11 mo old. You must be very proud of the heroic sacrifice your son made in offering his life to try to save another's. Just keep looking up. I also study Bible prophecy. Nothing more encouraging than to understand that prophecy is being fulfilled daily. Jesus is coming for us soon! God bless you. Debbie

      Tombs of the Patriarchs
one of the most famous in the Holy Land, was constructed in Hebron by King Herod over the traditional site of the cave of Machpelah, which was purchased by Abraham as a family burial site (Gen. 23). Significant Events: Burial site of Sarah (Gen. 23) and Abraham (Gen. 25:9). Isaac, Rebekah, and Leah were buried here as well (Gen. 49:30-31). Paul knew and understood that he wouldn't be with the Lord until the second coming, resurrection, and judgement. So he was merely expressing his desire to "be with the Lord". He knew that wouldn't happen until Jesus returns as judge of all the earth. Jesus told Nicodemus in John 3:13 that no one but him has ever gone to heaven. Jesus is in heaven following his resurrection. So how could Paul be "with him" if no human ever goes to heaven? Being "with Jesus" doesn't happen until he returns to earth for the second time.

    • @paulnavarro3822
      @paulnavarro3822 5 років тому

@@fromanabe8639 - Good job! Indeed, the HOPE which Paul is speaking about is the APPEARANCE and PRESENCE of our Lord at his RETURN and not "one second/minute" after dying. Lutzer, like many "Evangelicals", erroneously teaches the false doctrine of Man as "having" a supposed "immortal spirit/soul entity" (Casper Ghost) dwelling INSIDE his body.
This Greco Roman Pagan doctrine causes nothing but CONFUSION (as this video does) whereas the Gospel is very simple. ETERNAL LIFE has been promised to those who are "in Christ" AT RESURRECTION, AT HIS RETURN, and NOT "one minute" sooner; believers who have died will "return to dust" and will REMAIN in the ground here on planet Earth UNTIL the "last trump".
1Cor 15:51 Listen, I will tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed -
1Cor 15:52 in a moment, in the blinking of an eye, AT THE LAST TRUMP. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.
1Cor 15:53 For this perishable body must put on the imperishable, and this mortal body must put on immortality.
1Cor 15:54 Now when this perishable puts on the imperishable, and this MORTAL puts on IMMORTALITY, then the saying that is written will happen, “Death has been swallowed up in victory.”
1Cor 15:55 “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?”
IMMORTALITY, i.e. everlasting life, overcoming death, is not "put on" UNTIL THAT TIME. So Paul, in CONTEXT with ALL of his words on "putting on" INCORRUPTION, perfectly asserts his desire to be "rid" of his PERISHABLE body, at the PRESENCE of the Lord, WHEN he along with ALL the Saints, both living and dead, will AT THAT TIME, be given IMPERISHABLE bodies.
To extract the NOTION of having a CONSCIOUS and disembodied STATE after dying is purely SUPERSTITIOUS. The Scriptures teach no such "intermediate" state; the scriptures teach that you WILL DIE, no life, no consciousness, no knowing, UNTIL RESURRECTION.
A "Parable" is meant to TEACH a principle and is not meant to be an "ontological" argument. Also, the book of the Revelation of Jesus Christ, is written in SYMBOLIC manner and cannot be taken in a literal manner. Symbolic language is used to REPRESENT a bigger picture of what actually has and will happen in Human History. The SYMBOL is a "figure of speech" which is not meant to teach anything literal. You can't "have your cake" and also "eat it". Lutzer and Ankerberg are trying to have it BOTH ways. It ain't happening. Everlasting Life/Immortality CANNOT be BOTH 'life after death" AND "life at resurrection".

Stories are told, how some people say, they’ve seen someone’s spirit leave their dead body, like my brother said he saw our fathers spirit leave his body, if your not saved, can someone see an unsaved spirit leave someone’s body, and one sister of mine, heard my other dying sister say, oh look it’s mom, and then died. My family members aren’t Christians, and I tried to tell my sister, that it’s a trick of evil, convincing my dying sister she’s seeing our mom, when they aren’t believers in Christ like I am, and knowing that my parents, and one sister, is not with our lord right now, saddens my heart, esp since I can’t convince them other wise, they are Catholics, and refuse to change their beliefs, how this saddens my heart. The Bible refers to dying as sleeping. (John 11:12 [KJV])
Then said his disciples, Lord, if he sleep, he shall do well. 13 Howbeit Jesus spake of his death: but they thought that he had spoken of taking of rest in sleep. 14 Then said Jesus unto them plainly, Lazarus is dead.
When we die we have no memory of anything. We cannot communicate with our loved ones on earth. (Eccl 9:5 [KJV])
For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten. 6 Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any [thing] that is done under the sun.
Our bodies perish and our spirit goes back to God. (Eccl 12:7 [KJV])
Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.
When Jesus returns the dead in Christ will rise first and then we who are alive and remain will be caught up with them to meet the Lord in the air. (1Thess 4:16 [KJV])
For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17 Then we which are alive [and] remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. 18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
The dead who never knew Christ and who died in their sins remain in their graves in a state of unconsciousness until the end of the millennium. (Rev 20:5 [KJV])
But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This [is] the first resurrection.
They will be resurrected to physical bodies at the end of the millennium and given the opportunity to know the Lord and be saved just as we do on the earth today. They will be taught the gospel. This is the second resurrection. Satan will also be loosed again for a little season to lie and deceive the people living at that time. He will deceive many and lead them in war against Jesus but will not prevail. He will then be thrown into the lake of fire together with all the ungodly and unrepentant sinners that were not found in the book of life and their souls will perish. Then there will be a new heaven and a new earth.

I have a question - you discuss Rev. 6:9-10, where the souls slain for the Word of God are under the altar, and cry out for vengeance - in Rev. 20:4-5, we see them at the first resurrection receiving their bodies. However, in Rev. 6:11, it says, "And white robes were given to every one of them..." How can a soul, without a body, wear a robe? Why would they receive a robe?

Kuuda, you must open yourself to the scriptures. Study your bible, get into a bible study, find out what God says about salvation. Start with the New Testament, just read it and pray for the Holy Spirit to open your understanding. The Holy Spirit is alive and in the world today. He is the Helper. Knock, seek, ask....
The Word of the LORD is quick and powerful and sharper than a two edge sword.
They that come to the LORD must first believe that He is. He is a rewarder of those that diligently seek Him.
I believe firmly, but I had to put that time in... by His Spirit the Father drew me. He will draw you and your family. God's grace be unto you.

Adam and Eve were not "married" yet created for each other from the beginning. @shellyslioneyes 5 років тому +4

1955dmb: Matthew 22:30 and so on...Jesus says 's we will not be married in heaven. When the Pharisee's came to trick him with a person who had more than one spouse on earth Jesus answered saying that there would be no marriage in heaven, nor any giving of marriage. Besides, that certainly makes sense...if we are to all be joyful, how much jealousy would THAT CAUSE between spouses? Certainly that would not be heaven. Oh how GOOD our Great God is!!! Seriously though, we will have glorified bodies. Read beginning about Matthew chapter 22 when Pharisee's presented the question to Jesus. I hope this is helpful. No covenant relationships either. We will know everything from the earth and why things had to work out as they did. But that is all friend. :)

    • @shellyslioneyes
      @shellyslioneyes 5 років тому +1

Prophets Among Us: Matthew 22 (or anywhere else in Scripture) mentions anything about covenant relationships. When the Pharisees tried to trick Jesus by asking Him about a person who had been married multiple times, He stated that we will NOT be married nor given in marriage in heaven. Yes, we will know our earthly spouses, but that is all. Please be careful not to confuse people with your own "unique" beliefs. Several people have requested from you where "covenant relationships" in heaven are in Scripture (thank God they knew God enough to not take this covenant relationship suggestion at your word) and you have not responded to them because there is no such Scripture. I would lovingly advise you to not inform people of such things as to give false hopes to others that they will "almost" be married in heaven. Remember, God holds us accountable on judgment day for even every idle word...even if you believe this personally...if it's not Biblical, please do not pass this on to others. God bless.

shellyslioneyes I agree Shelly and thanks for your comment. There is no scripture to support such an idea, in fact Jesus said there will be no marriage in Heaven. And the logistics of such an idea are definitely unimaginable. I only asked the questions to make the point that there is no scripture to support this idea and that it would create all kinds of trouble. I know of a woman who is in her 80's. She married a widower who died at least 20 years ago. She is immensely jealous of her husband's first wife because now her husband and his first wife reside together in Heaven. However God has worked it all out, we are going to be extremely happy with the arrangements and no one will be disappointed. God bless you! Debbie

When you're dead, you're dead. But, there is something called the "resurrection" when every human who ever lived will come alive again to face the judgement. THERE IS NO EPHESIANS CHAPTER 9 IN THE HOLY BIBLE...AT LEAST NOT IN MY BIBLE. AND IF IT IS ECCL 9:5 THAT YOU WERE TRYING TO REFER TO, IT IS JUST HIM LAMENTING/COMPLAINING ABOUT HIS LIFE. YES, IT IS SCRIPTURE BUT YOU MUST LEARN TO READ IT IN CONTEXT. PERHAPS A PASTOR OR A GOOD CHURCH CAN HELP YOU. MANY SCRIPTURES POINT TO US BEING WITH CHRIST IF WE ARE SAVED WHEN WE DIE. YOU CANNOT PULL ONE SCRIPTURE OUT OF CONTEXT (LIKE ECCL 9:5) AND SETTLE YOUR WHOLE LIFE ON THAT. CONSIDER THESE OTHERS: THE THIEF ON THE CROSS NEXT TO JESUS SAID "REMEMBER ME" AND JESUS SAID, "TODAY, YOU WILL BE WITH ME IN PARADISE." DOES THAT SOUND LIKE HE WAS GOING TO JUST BE DEAD AND REMEMBER NOTHING? NO, HE WAS GOING TO GLORY AND GUARANTEED HE WOULD REMEMBER HIS CONVERSATION WITH JESUS AND HIS TESTIMONY OF HANGING ON THE CROSS NEXT TO HIM WHEN JESUS SAVED HIM! ALSO, PHIL 1:21-23 WHERE PAUL DESIRED TO STAY WITH THE CHURCH BUT ALSO TO DEPART TO GO BE WITH THE LORD. ALSO, 1 COR 15: 54-57....O DEATH WHERE IS YOUR STING...AND IN REVELATIONS WHERE JESUS HAS GONE TO PREPARE A PLACE FOR US IN HEAVEN WHERE THERE IS NO LONGER THE SUN SCORCHING US, NO MORE WEEPING OR CRYING OR PAIN..ETC. PLEASE READ, LOOK UP AND STUDY THESE SCRIPTURES CAREFULLY. THE BIBLE ALWAYS ALWAYS HAS MORE THAN 1 SCRIPTURE REFERRING TO ANY TYPE OF EVENT OR PRINCIPLE. THIS IS CALLED PRECEPT UPON PRECEPT. NEVER EVER PULL ONE SCRIPTURE OUT. IT IS VERY VERY DANGEROUS. WHEN YOU ONLY USE 1 SCRIPTURE AS YOUR REFERENCE POINT AND BUILD A DOCTRINE UPON IT...THIS IS HOW GROSS ERROR HAPPENS. CULTS DO THIS ALL THE TIME AND MANY PEOPLE ARE LEAD ASTRAY AND INTO HELL. PLEASE, I BEG YOU, BE CAREFUL. GOD BLESS.

*Hello, at about **06:50** you say that when a person dies the memory of the dead person continues, but that goes against what The Bible says in Ecclesiates ch 9 vs 10.Also, the story of the rich man who died & was conversing with Abraham is simply a parable that Jesus used to illustrate a point; parables are not literal, but illustrations.Think about it:How could it be possible that the rich man & Abraham were holding a conversation when there was a great gulf fixed between them?In the book of Psalms it also says that in the day that a man dies his conciousness ceases to **exist. It** is only when God resurrects the dead in the final judgement that conciousness will be restored to the **dead. So** to conclude:When a person dies, the body returns to the earth & the spirit (that is, the breath of life) returns unto God from whence it came, & at the resurrection God will bring back all the dead to life, those who are born again will go to Heaven & the wicked will be cast into the lake of fire to suffer eternal damnation & shame.*

To begin with there are two resurrections, Jesus taught in John's gospel chapter five, verses 24-29. also Paul speaks of two resurrections in Acts 24:15. Also in Luke 14:14. We learn they will be 1000 years apart in Revelation chapter 20:3. After the 1000 year reign of Christ the unbelievers will be resurrected for judgment. The believers will be raised at the rapture for glory. 1 Thessalonians 4:15-18. Ecclesiastes is written from man's point of view, Solomon out of fellowship with the Lord.Luke 16 is not a parable, the Lord opens the curtain to show us the unseen world (Hades) the lesson taught here by the Lord, don't die in your sins! My hope is that you will not end up with the "rich man" but with the Lord in Heaven." So, are you convinced that one minute after you die you'll (hopefully) be in heaven and meeting Jesus? Are you aware that the apostle Paul taught we'll meet Jesus _after_ we have been resurrected, and that we won't be resurrected until Jesus returns? Consider for yourself what Paul wrote in 1 Thessalonians 4:16,17:
"For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord."
That's right. Paul did not teach we go to heaven when we die.
A few will immediately say "Hey, wait, didn't Paul say (re: Phil 1:23) he'd prefer to 'depart, and be with Christ'"? Yes, he did say that. But if you think Paul thought he'd meet Christ _when he died,_ then Paul must have made a mistake about meeting Christ after our resurrection at Jesus' return.
The _assumption_ that Paul thought he'd meet Jesus when he died is the problem. Paul knew, from the Bible, that when we die our "thoughts perish." Psalm 146:4 describes death:
"His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish."
We go _to the grave_ when we die and our "thoughts perish" - our consciousness stops. We remain in the grave until we are resurrected. While in the grave we have no consciousness and do not experience the passage of time. When the elect are resurrected at Jesus' return (as Paul described in 1 Cor 15:50-54 and 1 Thess 4:13-17) their consciousness returns and _then_ they meet Christ. It will _seem to them_ like no time had passed since their last conscious moment at death. After departing in death, the next thing Paul would know was that he had been resurrected and was meeting Christ. That's what Paul was referring to when he wrote "For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better" (Phil 1:23).
Paul did not believe we go to heaven and meet Christ when we die. No, Paul himself clearly taught that we remain in the grave, "asleep in Jesus," until resurrected, and will meet Christ after we are resurrected:
"For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord." (1 Thessalonians 4:14-17)
Jesus said "And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven" (John 3:13).
That's right. Abraham, Moses, David, Elijah and the prophets have not gone to heaven. Peter even confirmed David was still in the tomb when he said "Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day . . . For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand" (Acts 2:29,34). They're all still in the grave, waiting for their resurrection at Jesus' return.

    • @TheBibleSays
      @TheBibleSays 6 років тому +1

As I explained in my original comment, when we die our "thoughts perish" (Psalm 146:4) and we return to the grave. Not until we are resurrected will our consciousness return. While dead we are unaware of the passage of time.
What did Paul mean when he said it would be better to be absent from the body and present with the Lord? Paul understood that after departing in death, *_the next thing he would know_* would be that he had been resurrected and was meeting Christ. That's what Paul was referring to when he wrote "For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better" (Phil 1:23).
And one other thing to keep in mind: Paul clearly taught that we don't meet Christ *_until after we have been resurrected_* at Jesus' return. Right after that we'll "meet the Lord in the air." Given that we don't meet Him until then, that rules out being with Him (in paradise or anywhere else) the same day we die:
"For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord." (1 Thessalonians 4:16,17).

    • @TheBibleSays
      @TheBibleSays 6 років тому +1

Many assume they'll be in paradise with Jesus the same day they die, "just like the thief on the cross." But that idea conflicts with many other scriptures. Eg., didn't Jesus say he would be in the grave for three days and three nights? Here's Matthew 12:40:
"For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth."
He was in the grave, a tomb, after He died, not in paradise.
Even after His resurrection several days later He told Mary that He had not yet ascended to the Father:
"Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God." (John 20:17)
So why does Luke 23:43 (KJV) say "And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise"? First, if you'll check some other Bibles, you'll find the verse rendered differently, and with a totally different meaning. For example:
And he said to him: “Truly I tell you today, You will be with me in Paradise.” (New World Translation)
And Jesus said to him, "Truly, I tell you today, you shall be with Me in paradise." (Faithful Version)
"And יהושע said to him, “Truly, I say to you today, you shall be with Me in paradise.” (The Scriptures 2009)
As you can see, the placement of one comma totally changes the meaning of the verse. Where should the comma be? Keep this in mind: the early texts did not have punctuation as we know it today. Words were usually run together without spaces; the reader had to sort out the words "on the fly." Spaces, commas, periods, and question marks were added to texts centuries later as translators and transcribers felt was appropriate. Do a Google search for images of early Greek New Testament papyri and you'll see examples.
The following English translation of the early Curetonian Syriac text (written in Syriac, not Greek) even leaves out the comma in question and still delivers the correct meaning:
"Amen, I say to thee to-day that with me thou shalt be in the Garden of Eden." (F. C. Burkitt, "The Curetonian Version of the Four Gospels," Vol. I, Cambridge, 1904)
As you can see, the verse in these other Bibles has a very different meaning from the verse in the King James Version. The implications are huge: the confusion and conflicts raised with the rest of the Bible go away. Jesus was not in paradise the same day: He was in the tomb for the next three days and nights just as He said He would be. And Jesus did not somehow go to His Father before He was resurrected.
The thief did not have ticket to "skip the grave and the resurrection; go directly to paradise." Along with the rest of the dead, he will wait in the grave for his resurrection:
"Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice,
And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation." (Jesus, in John 5:28,29)
The apostle Peter stated that David "is both dead and buried," and had not ascended to heaven:
"Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day . . . For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, Until I make thy foes thy footstool." (Acts 2:29,34,35)
Is it reasonable to think that the thief had already entered paradise while David - whom God describes as "a man after mine own heart" - was still dead and buried?
Abraham, Moses, David and all the other prophets are still in the grave waiting for their resurrection; they have not gone to heaven. Jesus said so:
"And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven."
      (Jesus, in John 3:13).
When properly understood (and punctuated) the Bible presents and maintains a consistent, non-conflicting set of doctrines.

If I make the first resurrection I become born again of spirit an immortal spirit if I am in the Good books. The second resurrection will give those who missed the first another chance to live by God's rule. The third is for the bad.

Paul the Apostle tells us that at death, we are "asleep in death. Jesus told those with Him that Lazarus was "asleep" in death and He will go and "awaken" him. Lazarus never told anyone where he was for the 4 days he was dead....He was asleep in death and didn't know where he was. The only body we will ever have after death is a resurrected body liken to Christ resurrected body that will be immortal. Between our time of death and the time of resurrection, we are asleep in death waiting for the time of resurrection, then there is the judgment. Our eternal home is a new heaven and new earth...not just going to heaven. Why do all you theologian bypass the power of the resurrection which is Christ Himself and keep talking about going to heaven and hell right at death? Going to heaven or hell right at death is totally unscriptural. And I am not talking about "soul sleep" because the bible never tells us we have an "immortal soul."
