Chills when I heard the destroyed Old Bayreuth bell tolling at the very start!
What a treasure, I always thought Parsifal wasn't performed in Germany under Hitler. Great, FAST conducting!

It did at Bayreuth until 1939. But in 1942 it was performed in Vienna and in 1943 in Berlin, under Knappertsbusch.

At the museum in Bayreuth the electric instrument of 1930 which made the bells is exposed I wonder if it's the one we hear it's not real bells.it's a musical instrument like a square harp with amplifier I didn't even know before seeing it. There is a 2nd exposed at the entrance to the Wahnfried house

Von Manowarda was very tall, he was killed I believe in 1944 in an air raid.

Thank you, I was not sure, but I do have a record of Great artists of Bayreuth which states he died in an air raid. that says also 1942, the record is from Deutsche Grammaphon 1973, I do not know which is correct, but I will say that my Grandfather saw him in Opera in Covent Garden in Gotterdammerung and Siegfried with Melchior and Leider my grandfather was a leading Tenor in the Chorus from 1909 till 1940 he said he had an enormous voice with a Figure that made you think he was built for the Wagner roles very Tall , taller than Melchior and Lorenz who he alternated with, but he was a staunch Nazi to, he gave the Nazi salute after the performances to the Dignitaries in the House, Melchior nor Lorenz did that nor Leider for that matter, but in those dark days many singers did like Roswaenge and Wittrisch.
Please take my regards and a Happy new year to you.

Is the voice or the recording that is lagging?
