This playback brilliance is attributed to David William Hearn who came over from Staffpad and lent his skills towards making MuseScore a real contender in the composition software sector. For anyone who doesn’t have access to real orchestras, I’d have to say MuseScore is a revelation. I’ve written more concert works in the last 3 years than the previous 30.

@@Pauldelnevo the expansions are quite reasonable compared to how much they cost for staffpad back in 2020. Each library was $140 CAD. These price points are ridiculously low but follow MuseScore’s business model of making products available to the masses. I think Glory Days by orchestral tools is due out at some point. I’d like to see Abbey Rd orchestra find its way over too but that’s a long way off since SFA isn’t close to finishing that line yet.

It's amazing to see how far MuseScore has come. I've been using it since 2.2. These samples and the sound engine are something I never could have imagined. And the string libraries here bring out Vaughan Williams' score pretty convincingly. Always loved this piece. Great video!

Oh my gosh. I realized just as the music swelled and you said it was possible to have this playback in 2024, that I wasn't listening to the BBC recording, but rather Musescore.
In retrospect, I should have seen the reveal coming, but I'm glad I didn't.
    Very brilliantly unveiled, sir.

I've been singing the praises of MuseScore for so long now, and it's so good to see how much it's grown. These libraries sound fantastic! I love this piece, stumbled across it just this year as a part of my A Level Music studies (Wider Listening for the On Wenlock Edge song cylce by RVW) and I've fallen in love with it. One of my favourite pieces behind perhaps Holst's The Planets Mars, Dvorak's 9th and Mendelssohn's Hebrides Overture.
Also just wanted to say I've looked at the other comments and the way you've been replying to everyone, you seem like a fabulous chap. Loved the video mate 😁

@cameront011 thanks so much for taking the time to check the video out, and I have to say that from one (older RVW fan) to (another..younger one!) welcome to the RVW fan club..I absolutely adore this piece..mate..that rehearsal..it wasn't even the performance..was just biblical..I literally felt every single note..I will NEVER forget it..and it's a funny thing, but since then, it's made me re-evaluate my writing..as it's (for me anyway!) just the most perfect example of emotive string writing ever..I think you can tell I'm a fan!
Funny that you should mention Holst's planet suite..thats coming in the next video (up today at some point!) and Mendelssohn..mate..that guy..just WOW!
Thank you so much for the very kind words about the comments..it's important to me that I reply to everyone who comments, and it's so good to see a (I'm assuming here!) younger person arrive on the channel..I think the future musically, with notation software, for your generation is incredibly exciting..finally in 2024 its happened..and you guys are going to do absolutely magical things with it, of that im sure.
Good luck with the A levels mate, and thanks again for commenting and finding the channel.

I always enjoy watching your videos ;-) I have been a huge fan of RVW music for many many years and know this piece inside out. I have to say that this playback version with MS and the Berlin String, Berlin Solo Strings and Muse Strings is probably the best I have heard from a sample library performing this wonderful RVW composition... considering that this is straight out of notation with very minimal tweaking if that, it is amazing. Best regards, MaxT

I still can't believe how good these samples are, the only other library that got anywhere near this is VSL's Duality strings..they are staggeringly good..but are huge..and my computer really can't handle them!..not only that, but in Sibelius need quite some work to sound good. with MS..Boom..for me there is no comparison..I have no idea how they managed to do this!

That is a fine result from sampled voices.
I would tell anyone who has only heard this piece in recordings to not pass up a chance to hear it live, on a proper stage with the proper separation of the choirs. It is an effect that no CD, stereo, quad, binaural or whatever can really capture.

I love NotePerformer too (but prefer the original sounds, over NPPE's) so in the next ones I'll include NotePerformer playback (using Sibelius) so you'll be able to see which ones best.

But is the score "Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis" available to download for free? In order to check this out inside the music notation software options available (say Dorico and MuseScore Studio), you certainly need the score that is probably the MusicXML and pdf of the score and even better the score in Dorico format and also the score in MuseScore Studio. If you have them, please provide them, as it is now music in public domain.

    • @Pauldelnevo
      @Pauldelnevo  14 днів тому +2

@russellaustin8453 Thanks for taking the time to check the video out mate.
I’ve been working on this piece for a while..so it’s not a new score, that’s why I imported it from Sibelius as an XML file
I love Sibelius, and until recently used it all the time for everything..once the playback stuff is set up, it’s now possible to automate everything (just like Dorico) and playback is brilliant..but here’s the thing ..with MuseScore..it just works ..without any tweaking (or a tiny amount of hidden dynamics etc) and is quicker to get a wonderful finished mock-up.
I think of it like NotePerformer 2.0!
Sibelius is still better at engraving, so I’ll probably use both bits of software..but I love VSLs stuff..and sometimes it’s exactly what the piece I’m working on needs, so if your interested in knowing how it works in Sibelius, I can do a video of that if you like..as Mir pro..Vienna ensemble (everything VSL really) works perfectly in Sibelius..and not yet in MS.

That's not the ending I'm familiar with, is this the original 1910 version? It does sound great in general, though I would say the ending does seem a little sudden and lacks a sense of having "landed" as it were. Perhaps just a tiny rall. and more of a diminuendo?

I agree that it sounds amazing, but there are still a lot of playback glitches and inconsistencies that I've noticed. The most common seem to be an instrument playing out of tune (or missing a note, usually flat by a decent amount), and timing being extremely far off (usually a note being late, often by more than an eighth note). I can work around them, and it's still an amazing option for someone like me who likes composing but hasn't learned the details for getting the right playback in other programs, but I'm really hoping they get those fixed at some point soon. I ran into both of those types of glitches earlier today when I was writing a pretty simple violin part, and they existed in all of the violin options I looked through in the mixer including both solo and section.

@circuitgamer7759 Hi, I have to say that I don't get that with the Berlin stuff, they did do an update a little while ago fixing some of the timing issues, and since then its been great (for me..with the style of music that I write, that tends to be on the slower..more lyrical side of things). Are you having this issue with Berlin or the Muse Strings..as your most welcome to send me a copy of the score so I can render it in Berlin for you..It'll be completely confidential mate, if it's a sensitive score. Kindest regards. Paul

@@Pauldelnevo I'm having the glitches with Muse Strings, plus a bunch of the other Muse Sounds libraries (strings and brass seem to be the worst for glitches, but all of them have them). I'm on the newest version, and it did help some things, but there's still a lot of this kind of glitch. I haven't tried other libraries past the Muse Sounds and the basic ones, mostly because I don't feel like adding that layer of complexity when I'm still figuring out the composition skills themselves. I'm not at a good enough level with my writing yet that I would need perfect playback even if it would be nice and helpful. I wrote my comment just to point out some of the flaws in the current version that come with the otherwise amazing playback.
Thank you for responding by the way, most channels seem to tend not to respond to comments over a day after release, so that was nice to see :)

@circuitgamer7759 If your on the newest version of Muse Strings, the timing issues should have been fixed in a past update, but now I know which ones your using, I'll have a look at them myself mate, as luck would have it in working on a score of a string quartet, so can check it out. Honestly, updating the sounds via Muse Hub doesn't add any complexity at all..I mean none!..EVERY daw and notation app should look at this and be like...yeah..in 2024 thats how it should be done!. Don't put yourself down about your writing either mate, we all started somewhere..and I'll take a bet that what you've written is lovely..and much better than you think..as if life has taught me anything..it's this..You are your biggest critic (when it comes to your own music compositions) I have a feeling your better than you think mate...thanks for the kind words about the comments.
