The tools do have use can be rented but professional help .plan with them and local knowledge is key as for tools that don’t work out of Africa.get local advise n research.great effort
I am starting a farm in Liberia, and all what he said is 100% true. The reason being is at times itis impossible to know what is on the local market. I brought a lot of drill bits from Europe because when I visited in 2016, I couldn't find any. I just found a store that sells them far cheaper than in Europe. I could have saved at least 2000€.
You could lease that machine out to others. Or resell it on open market to construction outfit. There is a way you can exit a bad purchase to mitigate loss. A machine like that has a market in Africa!
Thank you sir for your advice. I'm currently in the US and I have a livestock project in Mali, i has planning to by lots of stuffs and Shipp it back home but I will deffently put that on posse until I go there to see what I can shop around first.
It makes sense to put the available capital into the right purchases at the right time. So I get your point. On the other side it sounds like that this purchase was not a total failure for yourself, since it seems like you have the oportunity to generate additional income from it, even though this is not your main business. Your knowledge about renting out equipment is probably limited but do you have some information about the demand and supply of rental equipment in your area? is there anything you or other farmers would like to be able to rent but there is no offer for it? How are the rental fees in comparision to Europe? I often have the impression that services which require special equipment are often more expensive in ghana than in Europe. Does this match with your experience?
Am just putting together my farm in Nigeria and your channel is very educative and helpful. I live in UK and before I watched this video I had listed lots of equipments that I needed to ship to Nigeria. Thanks
Great video my brother. I am a African born in America coming to Ghana and starting a farm in the Bono-East region. It's 3 am here in the States, could not sleep and came across your video! Wow! I will be connecting with you! Thanks!
Which part of Bono-East are you coming to and when do you intend to come? I've never been in farming but I've developed a great deal of interest in it recently so I dream of getting the opportunity to work, learn and develop myself in farming.
Nice video. At community level one can hire out some of these equipment though returns may be slow and not worth the original cost of the machine. I imagine people can also do collective purchase of a machine if they are doing farming in diff farms. Thre will be synergy of sharing the machine
Wooow I'm in the U.S. and thinking of coming back home and start farming. I've been planning on getting tractors and I saw this video. Thanks a lot for sharing your mistakes Fred
Thanks James i Godfrey Okello from Gulu Uganda i am an operator tractor and wheel laoder operator so with tractor i do plough, big, horrow, righing etc.so am looking for job please so i see when sharing with Fred thanks James.
Very helpful hints there farmer ! I have invested in a few pieces of equipment too from the U.S and took them to east africa. That is a wheel loader as we call it here in the U.S, used mostly to load dirt, gravel, crushed stone etc in quarries and locations that sell that kind of material. You can fit it with forks and use it as a forklift too to off load flatbed trucks and move pallets, sea containers etc. I bought medium horse power ( 45-100hp) for my farm. Massey 165, massey 250, Ford 6600, Ford 4000, john deere 336 balers, Oliver corn picker and a new holland TR70 combine.
I m starting my 5 acres farm, I use locals to clean my farm cutting bushes n burning 40usd/acre and removing trees 40usd/acre including plowing Thanks God I am on my 3rd acre now 😁😁 hope I'll finish before autumn rains pass
Thanks Fred i GODY from Gulu Uganda i am an operator for wheel laoder and tractor and like for tractor i do plough, big, horrow, righing etc . and am looking for job please thank Fred.
Thanks bro your advise me too I was thinking of buying some equipment plus shipping from here Arizona to uganda which is every expensive so I agree with you thanks your advise.
I used back hoe here in Texas instead of front loader...it has multiple used... it has front loader, excavator, trench digger, etc... I would buy back instead of a loader... just smaller more agile..
THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH MR FRED FOR THIS AWESOME INFORMATION, GOD BLESS YOU SIR. PLSSSSS JUST TO REMIND YOU ABOUT THE VIDEO YOU PROMISED TO DO FOR US IN REGARDS TO *THE STEPS TO TAKE WHEN IMPORTING LIVE ANIMALS FROM ABROAD INTO THE COUNTRY*, ESPECIALLY IN RELATION TO CUSTOMS AND IMMIGRATION PROCEDURES. THANKS SO MUCH FRED.....

This is partly true. I think you should have said if you're not good with your hands, don't buy it, if you're not willing to go through learning to use them, don't buy it. You can also rent tools to other farmers. In Kenya the tools I bought from US are either half or quarter the fake Chinese tools here. I think you did this video prematurely, that tractor you will finally use it, it only depends on how big you want your farm to be. For me I don't see the mistake you made. I think your timing for buying the items was bad but you will eventually appreciate what you bought. My thoughts
It looks like easy Idea, but in reality it is expensive saving. But what if from luck I squired these tools before starting farm, should I sell to get capital?
Fred. You can acquire the skills. You tube video are help. Fred, tools make a job easilier. The pay loader can earn it worth.. but a backhoe is better Good luck
