Anyone who takes the time (that they'll never get back) to spit hate against someone they don't even know has already lost in life. I genuinely feel bad for them for being so internally lonely, directionless, and pathetic.

I just dont know that people are "haters". Celebrity just goes like this. People have endless opinions about celebrities, even though they never met them? So they cant really hate you. Its just the culture of celebrity. Water off a ducks back.

Hi Nick. A (obvious) tool I use weekly/monthly is using morning walks to set my intentions for the day, and it helps with the Headphones mentality.
For example. This morning I shared my breakfast with some ducks (baby ducks, to be exact). After arriving at the gym, I had a highly focused workout.
Anyways, it's hard to not always fall or bite when others say mean things, but keeping a focus and not letting that stuff circle your head can help.
Also, having a good warmup helps in the fitness context, focusing on correcting gaps.

The main problem, as I see it, is that haters may sometimes have an actual influence over your life and career. This is especially common in academic professions, typically with seniors envying their younger colleagues' intelligence and productivity (sometimes in combination with envying their physique (if the seniors in question themselves are out of shape, which often is the case)). I think the people Nick S is referring to are mostly trollers. Probably there is some amount of envy involved in this type of commenting as well, but obviously these are people with too much time on their hand beating down on anyone who happens to be in the news. Of course these people are sad, too, but as I said the real problem is with haters who actually can hurt you.

  • @johnsunutube

In my opinion, there's a message here about form that I think is very important. Coaches, athletes, scientists: nobody seems to know. The book/movie "Moneyball" covers some of that. Some baseball players have been extremely underrated because their form has been deemed poor or inefficient, regardless of how good their results are. In running, Paula Radcliffe's running form was often criticized, even when she was the best female marathoner in the world. So, even the experts are often baffled by what the best form is for a given athlete.

Real struggles we have are rarely witnessed. David Rudisha, a beautiful runner, had injuries 😢 . What about Michael Johnson? I reckon his great championship was stroke-recovery. Nick, you are a champion human being---I WILL NOT nay CANNOT say that about Trump, who cheats at GOLF, for shame!

Haters are not haters, its just how we perceive them.
They become haters the moment we call them haters.
    Any way.
    1) He(you) is white
    2) does have weird running form
    3) seems like has great work ethic
Most of the stuff stated in the video is not hate, more like observation.
My relative (ex Olympic sky team) 3 years ago, said that there is no way I would ever run sub 2 hour HM. That was his reply when I asked how good was his race time - 1:26
I had nothing to do with running at that time (33 yo at that time)
But I stared working out ran 5k in 32 minutes. Set a goal to run sub 15 min 5k (at that time he literally laughed at me)
I Ran official 16:05 5k last summer, and unofficially 15:25 in winter.
My usual weekend long run is about 21.1km in about 1:20 - 1:30.
Now my relative stopped taking too me for some reason.
He was not a hater - he is an inspirer
The more so called “haters” - the more inspiration.
I need you to tell me that I will not run sub 14:00 5k, please give some hate - really need it.

I don't find the Let's Run message boards to be a cesspool as someone who uses it. We can certainly say we root for one athlete over another. Maybe I was hypothetically more of a Duane Solomon or Andrew Wheating fan but it's not like I hate any of the people. It's just spectator athletics. I think it's far more important to care at all. I bought Nick Symmonds book, I have critiques of it, I like other parts of it but I hope it's not perceived as being part of a cesspool.
