This anime really doesnt have a problem giving side characters great moments. Even no-name soldiers being heroic or intelligent with that chain
I love the fact that the Elrics defeat only one of the Homunculi even though they're the main characters.
Mustang kills Lust, Armstrong and Sig kill Sloth, Envy kills himself (although Mustang did a number on him), Pride eats Gluttony, Scar kills Wrath (kinda) with help from Fu, Buccaneer and Ling and Father kills Greed. The only one that doesn't die is Pride and he's the only one Ed 'defeats'.
It's just so cool how all the side characters are important, and it also raises the stakes since we can't know for sure if they'll die or not, compared to the Elrics.

Callie it's almost chilling, and that voice just sells is. If they didn't show Wrath walking behind Al, it would have been absolutely terrifying.
I love how when Bradley says "Greetings; I'm back" he practically stops the whole show lol. Like that one line letting everyone know he's still here turns all the momentum right back around.
I love how the triumphant music stops dead in its tracks.

Armstrong and Sig did that muscle off in the original series before they even did it in the manga. Hiromu Arakawa must have seen it and thought "That's brilliant!"

Fun fact: this muscle off happened MUCH earlier in the manga, where they met at Izumi’s butcher shop. The fight against Sloth was a “reunion” for these muscle bros. 😂

The reaction to the Armstrong and Sig meeting was beautiful. I don't think I've laughed like that it a while.
Also, I love Bradley's return in this. It's just "Greetings. I'm Back." and you can see the hope leaving people who want to put a stop to all this. It's just so good. And it's such good voice acting.
I love Hohemheim's character. So much. He's very much a pacifist, but he will fight to protect what he cares about. It's one of the reasons that he's my favorite character. He's not a perfect character and he has flaws, but he really does care a lot. He would sacrifice himself if it meant saving people.
There is so much good in this episode.

Even though he's a bad guy, Bradley is one of my favourite characters in the series. I loved that moment at the end of the episode! (Somehow I missed him walking behind Al & Co on my first viewing...)

Maj. Armstrong did nothing in Ishval--which is to say wasted his potential and opportunity to do good. Gen. Armstrong had the most powerful army in Amestris, and just sat in her fort while the country decayed. Sloth is their greatest sin.
And then they kill it, and right after give their "We can't do nothing! There are children who need to be shown the way!" speech.
I love this show.
I think you are fishing for some connection here. Alex wasted his opportunity to do good? Mass genocide is good? And Olivier was ordered to hold a fort. You could call her many things, but lazy would not be one of them.
Sloth exhausts himself to death. It's satisfying and endearing. There's nothing else here.
Swapnil Batle i'm guessing he is referring to had he fought he would have been able to help the fight not end in nearly as much dead Ishvalans since Armstrong wouldn't have slaughtered the ishvalans he would have just capture them. And Olivier only holding the fort would be lazy in the grand scheme considering her army was leagues above to their enemy, her country was getting torn apart from the inside and she waited till the very last moment to do anything.
What are you talking about? Alex HIMSELF talked about how he did nothing in Ishval--that he's ashamed of not OPPOSING the mass genocide and instead just refusing to participate.
Olivier's job is to protect the country. She sat in her fort while it was destroyed by enemies within.
There is NEVER "nothing else here." There are always new and interesting connections to be drawn, that's what makes media fun to think and talk about. Passive consumption is boring.
But I mean, if you want to just watch and not think, to do nothing because it's less rewarding but easier... well, there's a word for that. ;)
I am not going to rant, so lets keep it short. Whatever Alex and Olivier didn't do, has nothing to do with the vice called Sloth. You could call it Cowardice, although Alex showed some form of dissent against the military, or Indifference, although Olivier has to protect the border from Drachma. (I have no idea how you can relate indolence with Olivier considering her obsession with discipline.)
Last line, snarky comments don't help your argument. "Watching and thinking", yes the age-old retort of how people understand art because they are exceptional thinkers. You humble me.
IMO overcoming the homunculi had to coincide with the key theme of the series, which is human connection. Every homunculus stone was drained by "combined strength", ie Scar/Edward didn't alone kill off their opponents, they have all had help.
just cause it works with Ed and Scar, doesn't mean it is a good argument. How about Lust and Mustang, Gluttony and Pride(see?), Greed and Father(see(2)?), Envy and Envy(do i have to go on?).
I loved how Wrath was walking across the street during the scene with Alphonse and friends, and I liked Blind Wave's reaction to that.

She is one of the more badass women ever, awesome alchemist, awesome fighter, a great (strict) teacher/mentor... While being totally in love with a husband who loves her as deeply and is also a badass (in a total different way).

I wouldn't class the name of the next episode as a spoiler but the fact that it is called "Return of the Furher" always made me wish they had called it "Return of the King".

Father legit got triggered when Hohenheim _correctly_ said that he wanted what humans have. Just like Envy was jealous of humans inner strength, Father wanted that sense of companionship. But he couldn't ever have that because there was nothing else in the world like him. He was the only homunculus. Part of him wanted to be like humans but he's too prideful to admit it because he feels he is superior. Every part of Father's children is a part of himself.

I fell behind on this reaction series way back when, and I have only now decided to catch up. From episode 37 to here. In like, two days. So. That's been a lot of FMAB reactions. It's been great. :D (Now I actually have to wait for a week again though. Dammit.)
I've been waiting for this episode a lot though. The muscle show-off, the return of Wrath and the meeting between Father and Hohenheim... SO MUCH EPIC STUFF. I expected Eric's reaction to the meeting between Sig and Armstrong, and it was glorious.
I think one of my favorite little details in this is in the Father and Hohenheim fight, Hohenheim creates an East Asian dragon, while Father creates a Western one. It's both directly a contrast between them, with their connection to Amestris and Xing, and symbolically, with the different tempers often proscribed to those two types of dragons.
NOW I just have to wait for next week like everyone else. Well then. Here we go. :D
