    Before gluing the tube onto the base, use a file to cut a couple windows into the tube about 1/4" from each end (file about half way into the tube). You can then insert your wheels and axles from each end and secure them with a drop of CA glue into each of the windows.

      @@joshuehernandez9514 Maybe hot melt glue. It yields to isopropyl alcohol very easily.

    That Celica is a great little casting. Too bad theyre tricky to find now..
    I quite like those monoblock wheels, I might have to look into them. Currently I use Greenlight wheels.

    I use the same method. Sometimes I'll crimp the tube instead of super glue. But mainly glue.

    I like this method because it allows the wheel to spin on the axle.
    Some methods glue one wheel to the axle, then the axle rotates, and that seems unreliable.
    Still, I haven't done a wheel swap yet. I just stripped the paint from two bodies, then I'll repaint and do wheels and tires. :)

    Great tutorial. For sure this is the most time consuming one yet most likely the best.
    Looks like Mattel tries to make it difficult for people to modify their Hot Wheels/Matchbox cars on purpose.

    Which wire cutters do you use to cut the wires on the wheels that are very hard? I have tried different ones but they get damaged after the first use.

    Personally, I don't really like the idea of heating the casting to remove a plastic base. I'm pretty sure it damage them. Tho, may I ask you why was there such a gap in between the base and the body in the finished product? Was it because the wheels were too big?

      No, the wheels were fine and smaller than the original. I did not glue the base as mentioned in the video..

    I have had the hardest of times locating the brass tube. Maybe I'm a dummy, but could you possibly point me in the right direction? I'd hate to purchase the wrong item.

    How does one cleanly take wheels from a premium hotwheel with a metal base? Sometimes the prongs on the axles are to close for a screwdriver to pry apart

    If you don't have the tubing, you can use cotton bud sticks and cut the plastic tube stick to fit.

      Tried my first wheel swap today using M2 wheels. Nightmare! The wheels are now fixed in place. Hahaha. Maybe I'll have better luck with the monoblock wheels I ordered.

    Any tips on how to not get glue on the wheel? That happens to me often using this method and prevents the car from rolling well.

      Other than be careful with a toothpick I don't have any other tips.

      @@WheelsNThangs I've never tried to use a toothpick, always put the super glue on the end of the axle. Will use the toothpick method next time. Thanks!

      Jose Osornio poke a square of paper through the axle and up to the tire. Super glue it and then pull the paper off when it drys. If there was to much glue it will stick to the paper and you can work that of with your finger. Your wheel will be free.🤷🏽‍♂️

    I use a soldering gun with soldering wire and I put on the end of the axle soldering wire and make a small point and I ahve somthing like a ribbit and I use the whole axle don't need to cut in half

    I wish Mattel would just come up with a way to separate the base from the shell with just a flat head screw driver. I'm sure there's a market for customizers who do wheel swaps. That soldering iron method is a great idea by the way.

    Update to my comment from a year ago:
    I now drill out the rivets for disassembly, then use strong glue for reassemly. Much less burning /melted plastic and my fingers and the car don't get hot.
