▶️ KEY TAKEAWAYS ◀️
🔹 Professionals render the hard way because they save time in the long run
🔹 When you render passes and composite them later, you don’t need to re-render for a lot of changes
🔹 When you render view layers, you can re-render parts of the image
🔹 When you render with proper color management, compositing is more accurate, and the colorists will love you for it ❣️

People keep asking WHY in the comments. I get it. It's a lot of work for little returns. Here's my answer:
If you don't see the point, you don't need it.
But those of you working on bigger productions will know why more flexibility in compositing is so valuable.
I githca buddy 👌👌. Also good video. ⬆️
Really liked the video but I wanted to see why you used layers. I assume the point is to be able to adjust layers separately after rendering.
So whatever is the reason for this approach, I think it's good to let people know what the idea behind it is and they themselves can decide if they need that or not.
@@yanni2311Why render layers:
You can re-render one layer at a time.
It helps with integrating footage.
It increases flexibility in compositing.
It saves VRAM on big scenes.
It helps when dividing workload.
one of the best video out there, they ask why because they didn't work until this point in a professional pipeline
I know WHY, but seeing it would also be cool and entertaining. You showed the process of compositing really spot on. I think you should also make a video showing how you could utilize all this hard work, maybe a few different moods to the image or some other changes that comes into your mind.
Excelent professional video
Didn't skip a single second. I'm not even interested in compositing. Subscribed immediately.
Same but im intrested!
--- great video but the background music distracting. not sure you why you used it but not including it would make the video better --- 06JUL24
fr broo
yeeeeeeep! same
@@HallofWisdom I have to disagree there. I think the music is tastefully added. So much so that I didn't even notice the music. And that's how you know the background music has been done well.
awesome tutorial man keep it up
tbh you're one of the best tutorial youtubers out there. you talk in a slow and chill way so anyone can understand and follow what you're doing. honestly just an amazing video. kudos to you
I really appreciate that. I promise I wasn't just fishing for compliments! But thanks for the kind words

You got me, that was insane to watch !
Great tutorial for Blender users who want to use a professional workflow.
As someone who works in the VFX industry I struggled for years to understand render layers. If only I had information like this in the past! Incredibly well put together, thanks for sharing!
Amazing!
this is what i am looking for, please make more video about blender to fusion workflow
Finally, all this info into a Blender environment!

This is a fantastic video.
I've been looking for a concise and clear breakdown of how to do this with Blender and you knocked it out the park.
Thankyou!
this was so insightful TBH, i highly apreciate this video. Thank you
Ooh masterclass yessss
I mean, you're like the exact opposite of what the pro studio attitudes are. Here you are, giving away priceless information for free so that low lives like me can learn things the right way from the comfort of our obscurity.
You sir, have a new subscriber here!
this is a a crazy good video. Love your way of teaching.
This video might just make me do color management
This is a great video!

Your videos keep getting better, and they were great to start with. It must be the cheese in the nodes

The videos are great man dont worry. Life changing information
Pro video, good job!
There's so much here to take in - amazing. A real help when trying to use Blender for production. Subbed.
Great video. Struggled how to do it right before, this video have a great structure of how render layers and importantly how to composite them. Helps a lot to understand the process. Thank you!
Taking time eplaining details is something you are doing which i think is best thanks this video is full of information ..
What an absolute masterclass! Amazing content and extremely well presented, this video is a great resource on how to maximize all of Blenders power 🔥 thanks for sharing!
Your video introduced me to a lot of concepts I had no idea existed, and did so in a way that was easy to understand/kept my attention. Great Stuff 👍
This video is so helpful ! Thank you for all of this informations ! Liked and subscribed for my part !
so fkn usefull. thank you so much
Incredible! I'm already using a similar, thought not as comprehensive setup, but didn't skip a single second! Brilliant video
reason i am learning professional compositing
You are awesome
😳 the most important video I watch
I really enjoyed how you broke down one of your past renders and showed us the small trick within blender to help with renders!
I also appreciated the transition and break down in davinci, I struggle with davinci so watching that part of the video was very eye opening in terms of how versatile it is.
Definitely looking forward to more videos!
For the feedback i love the way you talk it shows how well mannered you are don't change anything everything is peaceful the way you talk also good choice of background music it is subtle and it didn't disturbed me keep it up
Thank you, I don't think i've commented on a video for 10 years, that was a great video
I thought I knew blender, thanks for unlocking new bosses!
great stuff, been subscribed for half a year now I think. Keep up the great work!
It's very hard to come upon intermediate to professional videos these days, I appreciate your work specially the optimization playlist.
You’re video was good. My only remark is that you should explain why we need to separate the passes for compositing. Keep up the good work. This is very good material, especially in the Blender tutorial world. 🙌🙌🙌🙌
Holy shit dude, I honestly did not expect this video to be this much packed with so much useful information. You got a sub!
This is one of the best videos I've ever watched - I'm a game developer who makes films on the side for fun, but you've taught me so much about Blender and Resolve in a single video.
What I loved specifically was your explicit use of shortcuts with explanations as to how your doing it and why. That is so hard to find and so hard to google for any new users who are still getting use to terminology in these programs - but so easily overlooked by creators, so please continue to do that.
Cadence, energy, humor, all of it was perfect - it was the right amount of engaging and entertaining. It was the definition of "Edutainment"
I've grown weary of the overly wacky creators who have tried to make their videos more entertaining than informative.
I've avoided the skillshare offers for YEARS - but your video and the specific skillshare video you shared - immediately convinced me! I went from stranger who didn't know you to respect your opinion knowledge and professionalism in a single video :)
Honestly great stuff :)
Thank you. That was so lovely to read! Thanks for taking the time. Stuff like this comment is very motivating
yeah 100% agree! I'm beginner-level and I love Robin's videos, they are so engaging to watch and I have a lot of respect/inspired by him!
Hard agree with this comment. 10/10 content. 👏Subscribed!
Your tutorial is more resourceful than major animation colleges in our country lol
Keep up the GREAT work!!!
I’ve always asked why my renders always look wrong, now I know why and what to do to avoid it, thank you Mr Wizard of the nodes
Loved this, i knew view layers and passes were a thing for awhile but had no idea how to actually use them in my workflow (how to set them up, etc, when id even need them) And this cleared all that up! Im currently working on a pretty big self project and i think ill be trying all of these thank you!!!
this tutorial has explained compositing and nodes in both blender and Da vinci eloquently that i will keep coming back as a point of reference. Also, your description of the restriction toggles 🔥🔥🔥🔥 didnt know what those did
This video is really great, it's explains everything at a nice pace with great depth and good context, I've been trying to get into doing this type of compositing for my renders but every tutorial I've seen assumes I already know certain things or just simply doesn't explain things very well.
Thank you.
You did an absolutely amazing job! It's like watching a hundred dollar course, but this one is free. And yes, you're handsome not in an uncannily way
Thanks bro, nobody ever explains this stuff
That's awesome , thanks . I come from a houdini bg and things were a little messy for me in blender 😅😁 now it's getting better 😁.
Great video! Lots of good info for all levels here 👏
I really appreciated the high production value of this video. I am also a bit overwhelmed, especially because you did not show a comparison to a "simple" workflow, so it was not quite clear what is the difference in the end. But it is a great video, showing lots of interesting tricks and you talk really well and present really good!
Amazing quality as usual. Don't change your style, you are doing awesome. And keep it nerdy!
Thank you! And thanks for always being so supportive in my comment section.
you're doing something great please keep it up! this video was a revelation for me, for some reason i have a problem rendering fog in cycles
i really looks a lot of extra work for somenthing simple, but i really fascinating, very well explained and shown!
this is probably a must in vfx work.
everything on the video is great!
Thank you, very much very useful video

nah, mate your videos are awesome and actualy helpful. you can see many blender channels making videos on how to do something specific that doesnt teach you anything. your videos are very helpful, interesting and you can learn something from them that would help improve every project someone makes.
I will be honest, i don't do compositing or video. Just architecture render of still images. I don't even use Blender (mostly C4D) , but you explain everything in a so "pedagogic way" (even if i'm not a native english speaker as you can see with my shitty english) it's crystal clear !!! This is the kind of tips that are very difficult to learn when you're not already working in the professionnal field and very hard to find. Usually you have to learn in the hard way. Thanks for sharing your knowledges !
Honestly teachers in school could learn a lot from you. It was a very interesting video and a nice channel to find for me, i've subscribed without hesitating. Once again great job !
holy moly.. so much in here i have been wanting to know for YEARS!!!!! thank you thank you thank you!
and for feedback - the only thing i didnt understand was why you put 2 CST nodes in the colour grade, which ended up making the image over exposed?
@@davidgardener1152it's not very important, but I get why you're confused. I think it has to do with Resolve's algorithm for converting gamma when you have extremely high dynamic range. You'll recall I changed from gamma 2.2 to gamma 2.4 with the CST nodes.
Beutiful video, I realy enjoyed watching it. I liked ur style and how u approach teaching. I am not currently doing any 3D renders atm. But this realy got me interested in giving it a go again
This is probably the most comprehensive lesson I've seen about render layers and it's free too! Thank you so much for making this. Easiest subscription ever.
